WAR can't be a GOOD tank without a BRD or RDM?

Hmm... it was a 45~47 PT I was in yesterday @ quicksand cave, and the setting was:
WAR(47lv)Hum
DRK(47lv)Hum
SAM(47lv)Hum
DRG(47lv)Mit
WHM(45lv)Mit
BLM(45lv)Taru<< me
(I forgot the melees' subs as they are just normal subs)

What we fought were spiders and beetle.

It's horrible that the WAR was like a mp sponge..
Me and the WHM used cure3 for 50% of time to cure him...
I am always confident to use my mp wisely for chain, but after some fights, I found myself to be another main-healer (nuke only when SC went) .... mages casted cure spells like no tomorrow on the WAR to keep him alive -_- and also the WHM grabbed aggro a lot (thou the WAR spammed his WS to keep hate)...

The WAR said that the only reason is "there is no RDM or BRD in the PT".. he can't tank well without those jobs to give refresh/ballad to the healers.
I never played melee class before, so any high lv WAR here can share your experience of tanking @ lv above 40?
It's rare to see a WAR @ that lv.... how the mages can do their job well when they have a WAR as main tank in PT?
 
While i dont think thats the ONLY reason, its probably a contributeing factor. WAR just takes alot more damage than a PLD, its just the way it is. Altho, a good war will also be a kick arse damage dealer, so the monster goes down faster.
 
QCDN needs something like an "I'm a moron" board for these sort of posts.
 
I have no problems tanking when I'm on my Warrior, but then again I use a Sam sub (here ya go Keits knock yourself out yet again :wink: ).

Anyway, I do prefer a thf in the party to help me keep my hate, this is true, but as far as damage goes, I can tank with no problem. Just ask a few people who have played alot with me while I've been tanking. Btw, I base my war/sam job after another great war/sam Justine. He's just awesome.
 
Was your WAR subbing NIN? Spiders are typically suck to xp against because of sickle slash unless you have some blink action going...
 
Spiders - Even with Blink action... eventually a NIN will have to let the shadows fall for being in between timers. This is ultimately unavoidable. We have a good NIN tank in our static and they don't drop very often for sure. But he had the unfortunate occurance last night of being inbetween timers on Utususemi when Sickle Slash hit - twice ; ;

Spiders are evil. It's like it would wait for his shadows to be down and BAM! NIN is taking a dirt nap.

Of course, our healer wasn't completely on top of the situation...
 
Personally, I'm of the opinion that a good party at the levels in question MUST have either a RDM or a BRD. Just my opinion, but I think you would want a refresher/debuffer anyway (pallys have mp, afterall). Although, I may be speaking with a certain lvl of bias (considering my career choice).
 
He probably wasn't actually taking much more damage than a PLD, you were just having to heal him more in place of a PLD who would be healing himself instead.
 
war starts to take way WAY more damage then a paladin after a while, they can hold hate on par with paladin easy (with AF) but to soak damage Utsusemi does wonders.
 
Krius I am going to cut you in your sleep. You see me taking more dmg than a paladin all the time because:

A. I'm using Meat Mithkabobs and not Fish.
B. I'm using Berserk/Aggressor and not Defender.
C. I'm using ATK/ACC/STR gear and not DEF/VIT gear.

I don't need any of that crap because most of the time utsusemi is enough.

Paladins do get more defense and vitality than a warrior, but not enough to make us take "WAY" more damage..


Bah Krius and his sub that is 7 levels too low. H8 4 Kriusucks.

btw this is based on me parting at 50 with a war sub monk.

Not having crap gear doesn't mean you have the right gear.
