I'm almost WAR70 and already have the following weapons to use in the next 3 levels:

Woodsville
Maneater
Joyeuse
Tabarzin

ok here is the big question: what combo to use (at 73+ lets say):

I've read everything and the contrary about what combo is best, so I want comments from knowledgeable people who have tried and parsed all that:

I'm sure Wood/Man does good, best damage, + latent from Maneater, can't go wrong. This is default choice.

but does Wood/Joyeuse or Man/Joyeuse parse higher in high DD PTs in sky? Maneater would be used to raise sword accuracy and add a bit of attack under 100% TP.

Can WARs out there with real data (not just hear say) let me know what is in principle the best choice?

Also, do I need to put merits in sword to have axe/joyeuse combo work good assuming I will eat sole sushi until 75 anyway and that I have suppanomini so that's +5 already.

Thanks for all your input !

Get Ridill :P

It's better than Joyeuse in every conceivable way for Warrior, except method of obtaining it.

I wouldn't waste merits into Sword for it. Warriors already get a good Sword growth grade, so accuracy will be well. Only reason to put merits in it, were if you were using it in the Main slot, since Sword Weaponskills suck. :?

But then again, I'd question why you're playing warrior if you aren't using Axe.

well lets see

we claimed Fafnir maybe 10 times in the last 3-4 months and the stupid wyrm never dropped Riddill.

I'll probably only get the 3rd or 4th drop.

Looks like I'll be 75 in yet another job before I get it ;) Certainly won't be exp-ing with it lol

wood/maneater 4tw!

It gives one extra hit for Rampage when u Dual Wield two axes, TP returns 16 when 6 hits r all landed.

Ridill > all, btw :)

Maneater / joytoy for spammpage parties.

Woodville / jug or Woodville / Maneater for parties where you will be participating in chains.

Woodvilles is nice, but if you're gonna be popping your WS as soon as you hit 100% by not waiting for a SC, then the latents from Maneater become absolutely invaluable.

What about Company Sword? Chris, 56 base dmg in one hand when you're in a full party. I intend on using that thing right up until I get my Ridill, which hopefully will be riiiiiight.... now!

Nope, riiiiight... now!

God damnit, where's my magical hippy powers when I need them?

I always thought the Company Swords effect only worked on the sword itself. :?

It does, but in a full party the Company Sword has a higher base dmg than the relic 1h axe Guttler. It's a hell of an offhand weapon, even after you consider the fact that it's only a B-rated weapon and the skill difference between it and an axe is fairly big.

Retributor is another kickass offhand weapon, if you can get it... Dissector, meh. I might get it for looks but CompSword beats it down like a pregnant dog in a chi... you know, I better not finish that.

Or be like Devifoxx, and get both a Retributor and a Discector. 12% automatic base critical hit rate. slap +3% more in merits, and you'll get a lot of bonus damage.

This has got to be the quickest post-reply topic I've ever seen...

When fully unlocked, the Dissector has a whopping 1 base dmg more than Joyeuse, which means CompSword is still 20 base ahead of it. I'll parse 'em out when I get there, but 20 base dmg is freaking huuuge.

Dissector looks very, very badass though. I'd love to have the Retributor / Dissector combo for my prostitution gearset.

Even though the damage would be lower than a Company Sword with a PT of 6, you also have to remember that the +6% Critical rate will carry over to your Axe mainhand, and vice versa if that axe happens to be Retributor. Take a hit in your off-hand damage to boost your main-hand(and potential weaponskill) damage? Thats bad?! :P

12% Critical hit rate means every 8 hits, you're pretty much guaranteed a critical hit. Then you add in your DEX vs. Mob AGI, and merits if you want to spend some on Critical Hit Rate. I'd say Ret./Dis. Combo, with the +3% in merits, along with dex/agi ratio, you'd break 20% easy, possibly getting close to 30%. Toss in your AF enhanced double attacks, and you have a great DD setup there. This is the closest thing to being both spike and over time damage you can get.

Bang on, very true... I've heard the +6% makes a noticable difference in crit hit rate, so +15% should technically be cream-tastic. I can't speak from experience though, so hopefully Devi or Grodo or some other endgame war with experience can step in and shed some light.

Kinda off-topic, Skaw... do you know what the base dmg for H2H is, or does it raise each level? I've been trying to compare mnk weapons and their +dmg count to regular weapons with fixed base dmg, but not knowing base h2h dmg is making this difficult.

I really have no idea, but I would say 1.5~2 damage every 10 levels.

I'd have to know the exact base damage you have at 0 skill to figure it out though.

On the topic of the +6% Critical Rate weapons, any Dark Knight worth their guff should get Subduer. It's the single best Two Handed Sword, unless you have Ragnarok, which will be no one on this server, ever.

Word... Subduer is indeed worth the time. Balmung is a close follower though since it has the stats; I think my static drk Bigdadddy said it best: "It's a sniper's ring, a bomb core, and a mythril heart all in one".
