Ok, I’ve taken a break from leveling this job for a while, and am thinking of leveling it again. I left as a 53 War/Mnk, always having to make my own pts. Now that I’m coming back, I’m going to sub Ninja. My question is: Do I need to focus more on Vit or Evasion; since Ninja is more of an evasion based job, I figured that, but am not sure. Your comments, please. Thanks.
 
I'd rather focus on attack, str, dex, and agi on the side, with evasion as a little side bonus if you want to buy the gear for it. You really won't be tanking, anyway.
 
I'm pretty sure WAR's have crummy Eva skill, I'd try to avoid tanking if possible...but I'd focus on VIT for tanking, since you'll almost always lose your three shadows quickly...^^
 
I never found War/nins to be great main tanks, perfect for back up tanking and for THF to SATA off of, but they fill in a melee DD role far better.
 
I'm 56 WAR/NIN, and I usually try to get equipment and food to bring up my Attack, STR, DEX, and AGI. In my experience tanking with WAR/NIN, It's alright, but I find it somewhat hard to keep hate at times. WAR AF will help with that some though. I prefer being DD.
 
Swishiee- Do you get very many invites, or do you end up making most of your partys?

I'm not a very high lvl war but i'd say by looking at stats that boosting evasion for war would prob not have as great an effect as say vit. Seeing as base evasion for war is pretty bad, and the only reason to boost evasion at all would be if the mob actually misses you more, which i don't think will happen unless you have THE best in evasion gear (which almost no one has).

go for attk,Acc, str, Dex, Vit
 
I'm not in the 50's range yet (41 WAR), but I'm using WAR/MNK and WAR/NIN for tanking in my static.
I definitevely agree with the others posters ... Acc and Str should be a priority (Acc should clearly not be a problem for a 50+ WAR/NIN) for keeping hate.
To handle the damage, i would go all +VIT (WAR/NIN base VIT is not top notch) because our eva is so gimped (and is surely even more gimped by the use of viking axes) that we can't rely on it. But there i'm biased by my race (galka) ... a mithra without vikings axes can possibly go all +eva (+AGI equipment is a must too for parrying, and is pretty cheap)

Yeah. I don't get a lot, but if I sit around for a little while, I'll get one. Beats when I was WAR/MNK at 50, and didn't get an invite for days.
 
Nice. I think having Ninja will help me get pts. But I kinda enjoyed being the leader and having what I want in a pt. Thanks again guys!
 
You should have 2 sets: 1 for tanking, 1 for pure damage dealers.

As a tank you should focus in fact on a mix of attack and defense. I find that the War/Nin tank can do amazing well(especially with the Scorpion Harness), but you're not going to dodge attacks. Forget evasion, hope to get SATA on you, and try to hold damage by doing decent damage.

Yes WAR can't support the chain with self cures or blinking away hits, but I think there's something to be said for a tank who can do almost as much damage as the DDs. It supports the chain in other ways.

Evasion gear will definitely not help you in an XP situation. Personally, I tank for my static and it works quite nicely. But it only works due to the fact that we work very well together and I get a lot of support from my party.

I have 2 sets of accessories. One set buffs up my Str and attack and I wear these while shadows are up. The other set buffs up my vit and defense. I swap these in when shadows are down. Honestly, we chain well enough. Chain 4 with regularity and chain 5 pretty consistently. With the right support, I hold hate just fine and with one of the other party members casting stun for me I am able to blink away and avg of 12 hits per fight.

One last thing- Do you think it would be worth it to get a Walkures Mask now. Cause im close to 56 where i can get my AF mask, and i dont know if the W. Mask is better than the AF.
