Weapon .Dat Change

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a program or maybe just have the .dat file names handy that I would need to copy replace.

Basically, as all rdm can most likely attest/agree, the Enhancing Sword model is just a sad sad looking thing.

Just bored and wanted to swap the model with the Excaliber for kicks.

I think i heard something about the game crashing though if you mess with .Dat s? Not sure if that's true for monster .Dats only so any input would be welcome. Thx.
 
Hmmm. I think the game will only crash if you change Monster .dat files in hostile zones. Equip should be ok, but I'm not positive.

My moogle is a Behemoth but my game doesn't crash...has been that way for a year or so.
 
You can change monster .dats. You just can't remove them. a .dat file has to be there.
 
I am not 100% certain on the correct model for the Enhanching Sword, but i am pretty sure it is identical to the Gold Sword. So to change it..

go to:

c:\program files\playonline\finalfantasy\rom\54\97.dat

Copy 97.dat and put it in a safe place

Now go to:

c:\program files\playonline\finalfantasy\rom\121\104.dat

Copy 104.dat into a temp folder and re-name it to 97.dat and put it in the folder with the original 97.dat (c:\program files\playonline\finalfantasy\rom\54\) and overwrite.

This wont cause any errors, will just cause yours and everyone elses Enhanching/Gold Sword to look like the Excalibur
 
And You can replace one dat type with another. I got sick of how the GS looked while skilling it up, so I replaced it with a GKatana. It was much more fun

Also one more thing, in general when there is an update,

should I reverse the process?

Or just update as usualy and nothing will be affected?

Or every update dats will be replaced and you need to redo the process?
 
If there is an update dont worry, it will either do nothing or change them back to normal in which case you just redo the above. :)
 
Just an update, Other people's Gold Swords still look normal, but now my Enhancing Sword looks like Excalibur^^

haha it's so distracting. Most likely other's E sword got upgraded as well, but haven't seen one on another character yet.
 
The dat you replaced was for you SPECIFIC Race wether it be hume male Female or Mithra Each enhancing sword dat is specifc for its patercular Race


SO if you change the Hume male E-Sword dat to excalibur.. It wont change the way the E-Sword looks for Elvan of Galka or any other race for that matter execpt for the one you changed..


Small question though... When you change around a Dat file does it change the sound the the weapon makes when it impacts? for instance the Joyuese and a Dainsliaf have diffrent sounds when the hit.. And when i Change the Joyeuse dat to look like the Dainslaif i want it to sound like the Dainslaif is hitting
 
Oh, yeah sorry... only Mithran Gold Swords / Enhanching Swords will look like Excalibur. Since they are all slightly different :)
 
oh! Nice find. Hmmm anyone know anything about the sound file associated witha particular weapon class?


I'll try and give it a test, if I can find someone with a Gold Sword.
