Weapons advice

my current weapon setup has taken me through the entire story and most of the hunts but what I am thinking is that maybe I should switch things up before I take on the "elite" bosses such as Yiazmat and Omega.

this is what i got now:

Vaan (tank role)
Durandal (best 1h sword) / Demon shield
grand helm and armour
renewal ring (regen + defence and magic defence is nice)

Penelo (mage role)
Rod of Faith
Circlet and Shimmering robes (not sure if this is right, but its the next best to lordly robe)
sage's ring (for mp conservation)

Basche (pure DD)
Masamune
Magepower Shishak
Lordly robes (i find the +magic helps alot with Katana damage)
Genji Gloves

What i was thinking is switching up penelo to use a more powerful weapon so she can deal more damage while supporting the party, I hear poles combo a lot and have good +attack power, so do you think that would be a viable weapon choice?

Also, are shields worth the loss in damage capabilities? if i were to set up vaan with a higher end GS, such as ultima blade, or Tournesol (if i was patient enough to get all of the items for it) would he still be a good "tank" seeing as how he is using the best heavy armour?

Or, should i keep going as i was?

Lemme just say, Masamune + Genji Gloves is pure sex. So kudos for that equip.

Otherwise, what are you planning to do? Any end-game hunts, or are you just looking at the best set up to beat the game? I hear that a decently equiped team (no end-game weapons/armor) at 40 can beat the end boss of the game. So from what I can tell, you are very ready to win. If you're looking for end-game, I say you've got a pretty good start. I think Vaan will be ok without a shield.

Tanks need shields, and all the shield lore licences to tank almost anything beyond level 65, because even with bubble and Curaja gambits, when Omega 5hits you, you're dead.

I'd even swap out the ring for the Gauntlets accessory. My Ashe(my tank) blocks almost 75% of attacks at level 33 with just shield licences and gauntlets.

ive already beaten the boss, im just looking to do the endgame hunts.

after some testing, i decided to swap out penelo's staff for the ultima blade, seems to work a lot better.

as far a vaan goes, for yiazmat i'm going to try out the yagyu darkblade / cat ear hood. the darkblade combos frequently (not as much as masamune), is dark elemental (yiazmat's weakness) and is speed based (which is what the cat hood is for)

btw, if that idea goes to crap I think i'm going to need a new shield, demon is kinda old, do any of you guys know where the zodiac shield is?

basche got a 12 hitter on the hell wyrm today, so i think he is good how he is.

oh and mara, cat ear hood is an accessory i *think*.

the ensanguined(?) shield is the one with 90 eva, but has sap, poison and blind(?) on it. what would be interesting if ribbon negated these effects as 90
evasion is pretty godlike.

Personally I've been using the dagger Main Gauche on Penelo and keeping her as my tank. She's got enough hit points to be able to tank really efficiently with that +40 evasion boost the dagger gives her.

that's the one I was thinking of and that's why I want a ribbon. gonna give it to my PLD and then give that shield to her and she'll be a godly PLD of godly uber godly godlyness
