Alright, so I've been scouring the internet for a page containing the stat modifiers on weaponskills (So I can try to increase my performance, and not base what WS gear I buy on rumors or second hand info), unfortunately, I can't seem to find ANY information.

I seem to recall a while back a post in some random forum somewhere (Goddamnit I should have bookmarked it) that had the modifiers for all the WS in the game.

So can anyone do me the favor of linking me to any info you might have lying around, a webpage I can bookmark or something?

Thanks Dowzer, Bookmarked!

Also, just after I made this post I stumbled across a post buried at Alla with the very information I was looking for, made recently even! *feers oh so sirry*

Edit to hijack his own post:

hokay, so..

Here's something I could never make sense of:

WS ---------------------100%--200%--300%--#hits--Extra Modifier-----------Extra effect

Rampage 0.50 5x STR_30% Crit Chance

Calamity 2.50 3.00 3.50 1x STR_50%

Okay, so there's Calamity. By all its own rights, judging by the modifiers to it based on TP and Stats, it should be an awesome weaponskill. Yet, every time I've used it, or seen someone else use it, the damage is absolute crap (well, not every time. But the damage isn't spectacular even then).

It just doesn't seem to make sense. Fully stacked STR gear, great equipment, good axe, etc. Calamity still doesn't hold a candle to Rampage (Yeah yeah, critical hits and whatnot). It barely does more damage than Spinning Axe or Avalanche Axe, which are obviously inferior weaponskills:

WS-------------------100---200----300---hits-----stat

Avalanche Axe 2.00 2.50 3.00 1x STR_35%

Spinning Axe 1.00 1x STR_30%

....WHY?

Is there something I'm missing here? I know Rampage is a good WS, and it makes sense it would do more damage just based on the fact that if you critical on even 1 of the 5 hits it really boosts damage, but at the same time juding by modifiers alone Calamity should be superior to it in instances where accuracy is an issue (for instance fighting Torama's in Onzonzo), yet it rarely is.

Last night I was in fact in Onzonzo, and while Ramapge was sucking it up (SATA Rampage for only 80 damage, wonderful) Calamity was not even close to the damage (SATA Calamity for around 100, highs around 180) I was achieving with Spinning axe (SATA Spinning Axe for 150-280).

Any of you well knowing people know why such a thing happens?

Edit again: I can't get it to look right for some reason, just gonna have to bear with it -.-;

Well, as to why Calamity is inferior to Rampage...I don't think 1-hit WS with Axe are all that powerfull, the highest with Smash Axe and Souleater I've done is a mere~800.
Even with a high dmg multiplied one hit like Calamity — one handed axe just doesn't have enough base damage.

Rampage is a great WS simply because it hits 5 times, if accurate. The TP modifier is also a very nice added bonus - critical bonus...However these only apply if you hit the target.

You said you were fighting Toramas and having trouble with SATA Rampage.

I can gaurantee it is because they have fairly good evasion. Ever seen a Tonberry use a TP move called "Sigh" and a Thief —miss— SATA Dancing Edge right afterwards? It's kinda funny. Even with Sushi, I've seen some low dmg below 100 Dancing Edge because of the Tonberry's funky evasion buffs.

Use two handed hard hitter SATA WS on the evasion mobs.

Perhaps a better WS to experiment with: Raging Rush.

I'm a BST... so as you can imagine my GA skill is pretty much nil. The only two handed weapon I can use with any sort of reliability is Scythe, and I don't really even get good WS's with it (No Guillotine or Cross reaper, highest I can get until Spiral hell is Vorpal Scythe). Not to mention my skill is far under capped (currently 160 and rising, I'm working on it).

I know Torama's have pretty insane evasion, but that doesn't explain the reduced damage on mobs that don't in fact have huge evasion. For instance Tragopans (well.. those I'm unsure about, but I've never had a problem hitting birds before) and the gobs in Bibiki.

While your explanation does in fact make sense... what I still don't get is how a WS like Spinning axe (single hit, with crap for modifiers compared to Calamity) can outdamage Calamity at all.

You most likely did crap damage on those mobs because they had too high defense and/or you missed a few hits. Rampage own those WSs because it's a multihit WS.

The answer to your question why Spinning axe equals Calamity is simply that WS modifiers suck. The chart of WS modifiers should never have been released, it creates way too much confusion and people tend to think you should boost, for example, VIT for Dragon kick just because that's what it says on the chart.

However that is not the case. The 50%STR on Calamity doesn't mean that you just magically will do 50% more dmg on your WS. I'll explain this further down.

Unless you are a THF the only thing you should boost is STR, ACC and ATTK. When you have enough acc to land all Rampage hits, then start working on STR and ATTK. If your WS modifier is somthing like XSTR/XINT, then only put INT where you can't put either STR/ATTK/ACC(Steel cyclone is a possible exception, but even then STR plays the biggest role(most wars like to use Osode over anything else for SC)).

The problem is that most people tend to skip this part:

Physical WS Damage Calculation:
WD: Base damage of your WS
D: Base damage of your weapon (e.g., Espadon = 43)
fSTR: difference between your STR and target's VIT
WSC: Secondary attribute like STR_30 (30% of your STR).
fTP: Multiplier (Please see chart below).
PDIF: (your ATK/target?s DEF)

WSC = integer(any secondary attributes) x @

Level @
Lv75... 0.83
Lv74... 0.83
Lv73... 0.84
Lv72... 0.84
Lv67... 0.86 or 0.87 (perhaps 0.87)
Lv60... 0.90 or 0.91 (perhaps 0.90)
Lv40... 0.94
Lv37... 0.94 ? 0.99
Lv31... 0.94 - 0.99

For example, suppose you have 100 STR and 100 MND and use use Swift Blade (STR_30, MND_30).

WSC = integer[(100 x 0.3) + (100 x 0.3)] x @ = integer(60) x @ = 60 x @

@ is 0.86 - 0.87 at LV67 but it's going to decrease as your level is going up. It's 0.83 at LV75

WD = (D + fSTR + WSC) * fTP

I'm not 100% positive, but I think for Sneak Attack with THF main, this is the calculation:
WD = (D + fSTR + WSC) * fTP + DEX + AGI

Actual Damage of WS is then calculated in this way.
Damage = WD * PDIF = ((D + fSTR + WSC) * fTP) * PDIF

Phsyical Chart : fTP multiplier (non-damage related TP modifier in last column)

because it consists of a lot of numbers and symbols that people don't bother to understand.

Instead they just look at this part:

because this part only has percentages and names in it and is a lot easier to understand.

When you do damage the game checks two things primarily:

Your STR vs mobs VIT

and

Your attak(rattk)(which is influenced by str) vs mob DEF

Nowhere in these quasi-equations do you see any other stat(VIT,AGI...).

This means:

STR > any other stat to boost WS dmg(for WS's that can crit, ie rampage/jin, DEX also plays a great role but you shouldn't replace STR with it, put it where you can't get STR or where it's obvious(i.e Byakko's haidate)).

The modifiers add to your weapon's DMG rating for that one weaponskill. When you see "Slug Shot - 30% AGI" that DOES NOT mean that your weaponskill gets some magical 30% increase in damage because of your AGI. It means that if you have a 100 AGI, you get 30 DMG added to your weapon. A gun with a 40 DMG rating becomes a gun with a 70 DMG rating for that WS, that's it.

Now, initially, this seems like one hell of a boost. For the weapon in question, that's almost a 100% increase in DMG. The problem is, determining damage done isn't that simple. The weapon's D-rating matters, but it's a very minor factor until you reach the point where your STR is so much higher than the mob's VIT and/or your ATK is so much higher than the mob's DEF that they begin to "cap" off. Up until that point, STR and ATK are much, much more important than any additional WS modifiers.

Further, STR affects all damage, not just weaponskills. It doesn't matter if you use a gun, a club, a staff, or your fists. STR will make you do more damage every time you make contact(Attack plays a large role in DOT too, just not as much during WS's, so don't forget all about it).

Finally, stacking SA with Rampage is pretty pointless. Only the first hit is a crit so it's not gonna effect your damage much. Calamity though, is a one hit WS and is greatly effected by tp. I suggest you try Calamity out at 300% tp with SA and see how much of an increase you get.

Take a look at this for example:

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/9985/forumdmg25ur.jpg

(the WAR used MS, but it's the same as stacking SA. Was also, obviously, lucky with Double Attack)

I doubt you will hit anywhere near that seeing how you're a BST and not a WAR, but it's pretty impressive non the less and if anything, it shows that Calamity doesn't completely suck.

Post got kinda messy but I hope you understand what i'm saying an I hope you, aswell as others, learned something from this post and in the future, take the WS modifiers with a grain of salt =)

I heard calamity is multi hit at 300 tp and does a lot more dmg because of it. Is that true? :P

I've done Calamity at 300%, I saw no -obvious- change to it, but more testing would be required for me to make any sort of statement, and it still couldn't be regarded as fact.

As far as your post Djingis, it was very informative. I wasn't so silly however as to only read the modifiers and not the damage equations involved, and still going by -all- the data Calamity should still be an incredible weaponskill compared to say Spinning or Avalanche Axe. And just a quick note, I know that Rampage only gets a crit on the first hit with SA, but I wasn't subbing WAR so what the hell, a crit on the first hit is still a damage boost.

I'm going to play around later in game with different WS's. Currently I swap in mostly STR gear during WS (since the modifier is primarily STR on all my weaponskills), but I'm going to try putting some attack+ in there as well.

It's also very possible my damage just sucked because I was 60 in an area that seemed to cater to a level or two higher (just about everyone in my party was 61-62, I was the lowbie).

Research is fun ;)

If you get more tp back at 300 then at 100, that alone proves its more hits

Haven't yet paid attention to the TP return on Calamity yet, just trying to boost its damage :P

The only WS that I heard got extra attacks at 300tp was relic GAXE WS(rumour said it was 10fold at 300tp), which proved to be completely false. As shown in the formulas, Calamity has a pretty high multiplier at 300tp, which is the main reason why it does so much at 300tp, and not that it's a multihit WS.

And yeah, Lecan, Toramas at 60 is kinda overhunting.Toramas are well known for beeing really evasive, and at 60 without berserk, they'll also have really high def. If you were /war you'd probably do some more damage but you're still not gonna hit any high numbers unless you party with a bard(at 60 that is).

As for not seeing any difference between 100tp and 300tp, that's really odd. If you didn't already, I suggest you try it out on some TW mobs and the results should be really obvious.

Well, last time I did any extensive playing around with it was after I first got it. I was fighting T Knight crawlers and Crawler Hunters in CN.

I had heard rumors that Calamity had a crazy multiplier on it at 300% TP, so i wanted to try it out. The multipliers do make a difference, but max damage still wasn't very high. Normal damage from it at 100% TP (mind you this was at the end of the battles, mob at the last sliver of health. I don't know if Calamity has a damage cap to mob HP like Rampage does) and it was doing roughly 100-120 damage.

200% TP it did about 200 damage, and at 300% max damage I saw was 333 with full STR WS gear. I was rather unimpressed with the damage seeing as how that was only a T mob.

However, I plan to do a little more extensive testing today when I get the chance.
