weird graphics error...

All the avatars are looking like this to me... I don't know why or what's wrong. The lines are horizontal and move up and down. I just got a new video card (Gforce FX5200) and the game looks a LOT better but this error is really annoying. Anyone else have this problem/know what to do about it?
 
Congrats, you bought a lemon. :D Actually it has to do with the geforce fx series. My gforce fx 5600 ultra has the exact same problem with avatars and invisiblity. Any translucent effect causes that. No way to fix it short of a different video card that I have found or using very old drivers.
 
I've got a GeForce FX5900 Ultra and I had the exact the same error after I downloaded one of the most recent driver updates. I rolled mine back to the 6.14.10.5664 driver and everything is fine now. I hope that helps.
 
You just got a Geforce FX5200? Man i been trying to get rid of mine for ages, and yeh one driver update i used to get this error, i got a newer driver and it fixed it. I just lag out a ton when brds cast spells now
 
The GeForce FX series was kind of... not good. Especially the 5200.

ATi really shined during that time period. *hugs 9800 pro* What? >.>

I would say sell it and get the Radeon 9600XT. I think they're about the same price, but the 9600XT won't do that glitchy thing, and will have better performance.
 
I have the 9600 XT and absoloutly love it.

Really it runs so much better than my old one though... I could post a screenshot using my old card and you would see the slight difference in quality.. haha... I'll try rolling back the drivers, thx for the tip.
 
I've got the FX5600 ultra and I used to have those problems. Did you update your drivers? I think they released a new version last month or so...was announced in one of the FFXI update notices I think. Anyway, I updated and now all the avatars aren't glitchy.

is that glitch only happen with GF 5 series? never seen that b4, if it helps I got 6600oc and game runs beutifuly no hang ups or wierd probs, I run at 1280 X 1024 and 1024 X 1024 for background i do only get hang upss if im running crap in the background, i hope this helps
 
I've never had any complaints from my GeForce cards and I've never had a program they couldn't handle so I can't complain.
 
Problem is mostly isolated to the FX series of Gforce cards. Nvidia's early attempts at making directx 9 cards, but ffxi was designed for directx 8. Thus the conflict arises.
