This was something that just occured to me the other day. Would it be interesting to use the capped proms to level subjobs?

BOOM!

Okay, now just here me out. Compare the good and the bad with me:

*Good*

- Tanking while intimidating the mob.
- Some jobs rock early on, and then decline a bit later.
- Mobs only drop beasty seals and alchemy ingrediants/useful prom items.
- Level a thirty-five warrior with a thirty-one Samerai friend.
- One set of armor + time + inflation = the win.
- Camp at zone.
- No other parties.
- Select your mob types and how they con.
- If someone else is there, try a different Prom.
- Short travel time and a little 'getting to know your pt' room.

*Bad*

- No skillups.
- No new abilities.
- No new armor.
- Good luck getting high demand jobs for this.

So, what does everyone think? Would this be a good way to level jobs together in a static situation? Lord, you could always skillup later in a skillup party, and it would be wonderful for subjobs.

I may be the only one who likes the idea though.

I think Fire, you are somewhat wrong. There is an exp cut but when I went in there, the people who were level 75's were getting enornmous amounts of exp and I got very little. I think the person that has the higher level will make out while a lower level may not. I also believe someone mentioned this idea once before but I cannot recall the post.

I am not 100% sure on the dynamics... but I recall getting crap exp on those mobs always through various trips. Maybe if all are level 30 uncapped, I was simply told you get a severe cut based on the cap and assumed it was true.

If the mobs would con dc or easy prey to you w/o lvl cap you can't get exp chains I think. Also, if you got to lvl 75 this way, you would have to join a LOT of skill up parties, since you would have the skills as a lvl 30 job.

If the exp penalties don't exist, this would be a good deal. Imagine being able to pick anyone between lvl 30-75 for your party. :o

As far as I'm aware, there is an xp cap the higher above 30 you are, but there seems to be some exceptions on the stronger mobs, which because of their strength (not really worth xping on honestly), migh yeild more xp.

This is closest to the truth. I was once in a 4 man group farming animas/screwing around (We actually worked our way up to the 4th floor.)
We had a 40 Whm/Blm, 42 Blm, 35 war and a 29 war (me). I was getting 200ish a kill while the others were getting less depending on their original level.

I had thought of this several months ago when I first started doing CoP missions, but someone explained to me the experience caps and said that it wouldn't work. If they were wrong, this would be a pretty useful alternative to some areas.

post level cap the exp penalty is large, i think it is something like 50% but i am not sure, i will find the documentation on it later.

This cut, however, does not seem to effect the gain of Merit points, which could explain Lavi's comment. I remember being rather put out when one of my friends was bragging about 150 merit points when i had only gotten ~70 exp ; ;

been there, done this

Yeah i thought it would be a good idea, so i grabbed 5 other people from my LS to try (this was pre Prom nerf patch too). You do get an XP cut, about 50% sounds right. We had someone level 29 or 30 (can't remember exactly) and the rest of us were 30+, and they would get full XP and chains, while the rest of us got halfed XP and no chains. We tried this on the first, second, and third floors, same scenario.
However, i've noticed on the fourth floor you still get XP chains, and maybe some mobs on the third floor.
If your just with some friends who want to doof around, go for it, however, its not a optimal XP situation.
