What Anime/Manga are you Reading/Watching? Part the Second!

Just finished Gantz and School Days, and Lucky Star (I needed that after those other 2.)

Not really sure what to start watching next but I might just try watching random anime, well until one sticks. Should finish Gintama.

A lot of the story got lost in translation but the English version is excellent in its own right. The American Voice acting is top notch, for which I can only say that about Ergo Proxy and Ghost in the Shell. Liam is top notch as Vincent in Ergo Proxy, he puts his Gara voice work to shame.

I have heard a lot of positive things about Ergo Proxy and well some of the previews seemed really good. Might check that out myself.

Finished watching Nabari (aka. Nabari no ou). Pretty good ninja anime. It wasn't heavy on fighting but it did have fighting scenes. Pretty interesting, pretty sad story. I enjoyed it.

Next on my list is to rewatch the first half of Tsubasa and then watch the second half and finish the whole damned thing.

Just finished up season 2 of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and holy crap, I thought that would be the end of series when I got done with these 26 episodes.. but no. I had no idea this series was so long. u.u

Don't get me wrong, it's an absolutely wonderful series with great storytelling, imagery and music. Plus the fact that it incorporates so many of Clamp's other notable anime and manga characters is a neat icing on the cake.

I just simply had no idea it was a lengthy anime when I first watched season one a few years ago. I just thought it only had 2 seasons, but after watching the second season it's quite clear there's still much more to the story.

Some of Kurogane's past has been revealed which helps to explain his aspect in the story. Yet Fai is still largely a mystery other than the fact that he's a powerful wizard running away from another powerful wizard in his home-world, and this was all established the first episode we met his character. Syaoran has still got some big mysteries to himself as well. Sakura is pretty much an open book since she's the plot of the story so to speak, the only thing I wonder about her is what the "bad guys" want her for exactly.

Which brings me to the "bad guys". I can't remember the main baddies name, Fei Wong or something like that. He's also a mystery but apparently Sakura's father is one of his ancestors, that's about the only clue we have about him. The frilly black haired woman that works for him is still a mystery to the story.

There's still quite a lot left to uncover from the story and I'm looking forward to the next season's dubbed release.

Funimation, for the most part, has done a pretty good job.

I did notice that on two separate occasions that Fai had mouth flaps that weren't voiced, but they were brief enough that I doubt they were of any real relevance to the story anyway and were likely just him making some sound or a quick phrase. Vic must have been busy those days. >_>;

Other than that there were no other things that I noticed that could in any way be a negative.. other than the fact that apparently Sakura lost millions of feathers, though when she first lost them it only looked like 20 at most.. lol.

Great great anime and I can't wait to see how it concludes. I'm just sad I'll likely end up waiting another year or longer for season 3 to come out stateside. :/

I'm finally all caught up with Detective Conan, yeesh, I'm addicted to this show I tell ya. On chapter 719, episode 561, and movie 13, now I have to wait weekly for the episodes and chapter and April for the next movie.

Now watching and reading Rurouni Kenshin, as well as continuing my collection on Shaman King, GinTama and Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

Also

GinTama anime licensed for North America!

On a whim, decided to check out Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. Pretty awesome so far; I love it. Currently it's only up to episode 3 (new episodes come out on Fridays), and the manga is up to chapter 7. I'd definitely recommend it~

A few of new shows this season have pleased me so far. I'm watchin' Baka Test, Durarara!!, and Ookami Kakushi. Ookami Kakushi is written by Ryukishi07 so you Higurashi fans should check it out if you haven't already.

Watched a whole lot of anime since my last update, hope I didnt forget any...

Magikano
Bamboo Blade
Seto no Hanayome
Kanokon
Evangelion 1.01 - You are (Not) Alone
Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun

Still got plenty left to watch, but I started watching Burst Angel last night. I had bought it many months ago but just decided to give it a whirl.

Ah, Burst Angel. I thought it was a pretty good anime, but for me was one of those ones that left me wishing the story kept going.

I just recently finished watching Shagukan no Shana. That's a pretty awesome anime that basically is a bit of a love story, but with tons of awesomeness. Good fights and interesting back-story and universe. This was one that could easily have a second season, since the first by no means finished completely. I mean, there was an ending to the story but there was still more left that could still go on in that world.

Oh well though, since the anime came out in 2005 I doubt there will ever be more to it.

You're in luck as there is a second season. It is called Shakugan no Shana: Second and it finished up airing in 2008 so you can blast through them all without havin' to wait.

Oh, awesome news then! I guess it hasn't been dubbed by Geneon or another company yet though. :/

I rather enjoyed the dub of the first season. Think the voices matched the characters perfectly.

Not, much chance of Geneon licensing anything nowadays i'm afraid. Which sadly has left a lot of sequels to my favorite series stuck in limbo (Shana, Higurashi, Nanoha etc)

I had to download the fansub for Shana II but it was worth it, trust me on that^^

There could always be a chance that Geneon could bring those series over. Funimation are the ones who do distributions for them now I believe.

I was under the impression that Geneon have ceased operations in North America meaning no new licences will be made by them and therefore no new series for Funimation to distribute. Unless Funimation, Section 23, Media Blasters etc decide to take up the licenses for the sequels/new series themselves then there is little chance of seeing them over here I'd say. It seems unlikely that Geneon will start buying new licenses in the US again unless the industry picks up enough again for them to care about the Western World once more.

I'm cautiously optimistic (and hopefull) on Funi taking over licence and distribution for these series at some point. I wouldn't really mind so much if they couldn't get the original Geneon VA's for the roles and had to use their own cause it's still better than not seeing it at all :)

I'm sorry for you guys that enjoy your dubs, but every single one of those companies need to bite the dust. They charge entirely to much for very little quality and quantity. Of course they'd go under, what majority is goin' to buy their products when they are offered for free? Also, its even easier to find the shows for free, subbed, when the companies aren't around spendin' money they don't have on licensing shows they'll never do anything with.

That being said I think a new, better company with some business sense needs to come up and do their jobs properly. Treating Anime like Porn ain't the way to go bout it.

Care to elaborate? Maybe it's just your location? Where I live anime is out in the open in its own section or with the dvd section (depending on what store you go to). Even my local Wal-Mart has a minor selection of anime, lol.

I understand how you feel even though I don't agree with most of what you said.

I will agree that prices for dvd's need to be lowered, badly. It feels like over paying when an anime is $50-$60 and it's a full 24-26 episode season, but what's worse is that they generally charge around $40 or more for just a small section of an anime (13 episodes in an anime that has 50 or more episodes).

Every now and then I'll see a full 24-26 episode series for a reasonable $30. That, I don't mind. It makes the purchase feel like a good one even if the anime turns out not being good.

I'm going to start checking RightStuff! a lot more often now. They have some really amazing deals on there from time to time.

Oh and about dubs/subs. I guess I'm a unique breed. As most anime watchers, I started out watching dubs only but there was a series I wanted to check out that hadn't been dubbed at the time and I really wanted to watch it. So I watched the whole thing subbed (200+ episodes), and by the end I was finally able to watch and read without having to pause quite so much. I still on occasion have to pause when a character just speaks too fast and the dialogue is not up long enough, but that doesn't happen often. I enjoy subbed anime just as much as I enjoy dubbed anime. It's actually been quite a while since I've watched a dubbed anime that I felt the dubbing was not good. I have watched some really horrendous voice acting and I'm also very naturally tuned to listening at voices if I hear them enough so I can really pick out bad quality pretty quick. I even suffered through a whole series that was god aweful and I knew it sounded bad in the first 5 seconds ( I kept hoping it might get better, though part of me thinks they had a horrible sound booth and technician) At anyrate it's up close to the top of my list of most horrid animes ever.

Point being I am able to watch and enjoy subs, but still prefer a good dub if it's available.

I didn't mean the retailer, I meant the people who think these shows are special enough to pay $20-30 for 4 episodes. The price of Porn and the price of Anime are both high, for obvious reasons, but Anime isn't near as necessary (or should I say popular?) in our nation as a good ol' porno.

Ah, well again. This can also be retailer specific. Malls are the worst, I swear. There's an F.Y.E. in my mall and it's the only store there that sells anime and has a decent, but not huge selection and they charge out the ass for anime. To compare, I could buy one anime series from F.Y.E. for $89.99 or go to Best Buy and buy it for $39.99 or $44.99. I've seen F.Y.E. actually have anime series and charge over $100 for them. Freaking ridiculas! We're talking just 26 or less episodes.

But yeah, I think I covered my gripe on the cost of anime in my last post and that was just using numbers from a retailer like Best Buy. Occasionally they have nice deals, but there's been a disturbing trend of breaking up a series into 13 episodes and selling it for the same price or higher than I could buy a complete 26 episode series. This is one of my biggest peeves with the pricing of animes.
