What Anime/Manga are you Reading/Watching? Part the Second!

It's all good. The series it self was quite good, in my opinion, until the final few episodes. I just don't want to spoil too much by saying anything else. It had a lot of potential.

Something I should also note. I'll be purchasing Jump SQ Monthly from now on ^^

Kentaro Yabuki and Saki Hasemi are GENIUSES!!!!

Seriously, Yabuki has had to do colour spreads of the magazine FOUR MONTHS IN A ROW! I wonder how many copies of Jump SQ they have managed to sell since To Love-Ru Darkness began.

Finished watching the first season of Sekirei. It was pretty awesome and if you are a person that like boobs, this anime will be perfect for you. I swear, I think.. there are boobs in every single episode. The story wasn't bad by any means, but there does need to be more to it than was shown in the first season. Thankfully, there is a second season (maybe more in the works) and it continues the story.

I think there needed to be more actual fighting in this show though. For anime with 108 'Sekirei' that are suppose to battle each other, there were perhaps a total of less than 10 completed battles in the first season.

Still, I did enjoy this anime and look forward to more of it in the future.

If you want a different kind of shoujo manga then I recommend Otomen by Aya Kanno (or Kanno Aya if its in jp).
Still reading Skip Beat! and loving that as well.

I've been slowly working my way through Samurai 7 via Netflix and I must say it's encouraging to see a dubbing that just threw up its hands and said "Fuck it, honorifics don't localize well so we're just going to have the English voice actors use the suffixes because our target audience already knows what they mean."

Oh wow. Where have you been man? This has slowly become more and more the norm for a few years now. That and Samurai 7 is kinda oldish too, I know I've had my copy for several years now. In fact, I checked my copy and it's copyrighted @ 2004. I got the the Viridian Collection from Funimation. The shows been one of my favorites since I watched it the first time.

But yeah, in all seriousness. The newer dubs I've seen have been using the -chan, -kun, -domo and other Japanese suffixes since, lets face it, the majority of people buying the product are already familiar with them. Just as you said.

I might as well throw out there, that I still haven't gotten around to watching Trigun that I got a month or so ago. I kinda wonder if they redid the voice acting since Funimation brought it back this time. Either way I need to watch it and either way, I'm bound to enjoy it. :)

I have been living under a rock and sustaining myself on fansubs for a while now. The english voice acting and localization is getting better overall, but it's still very hit-or-miss in my experience.

bump

Seiken no Blacksmith - manga
B gata H kei - anime
both a little ecchi, but fun :)

Finished Deadman Wonderland today because of my hour break between econ/math, english/math. Pretty good series and is still on going.

Finally got back into buying anime after a fairly long slump of not doing so. This time I got Dragonaut -The Resonance-, Summer Wars (a movie), and Evangelion 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance.

I have so far watched all of Dragonaut and Summer Wars.

Dragonaut was a really good action/romance story that basically dealt with prejudices and racism between humans and dragons. The story was more involved than I was expecting given the colorful nature of character appearances. Expect every hair color you can imagine and tons of women with impossibly sized breasts. Given that the characters were done by the same character designer of the Witchblade anime, you can expect all breasts and ass cheeks to have a shiny gleam on them. Lots of fan service characters, hence the huge-ass boobs. Yet even with all the silly character styles there's a great story.

Summer Wars was a completely different treat. An almost reality based movie, where technology plays a huge part in Japanese life. There is a virtual reality world called Oz that interconnects the daily lives of millions all over the world. The idea is pretty interesting but the story of the movie also shows what could happen to a world like that if a powerfull hacking AI is let loose in it, albeit, this is quite an animated movie when it comes to showing the virtual world of Oz. There's also a good story about the power of family and it's connections in this movie too, and a little bit of a love story too. Without ruining anything, I can only say I really enjoyed this movie. It somewhat reminded me of the .Hack world. I wasn't quite sure what to expect since all I watched beforehand was a preview that truly did not do the movie justice.

Haven't updated this thread in a while.. and with the other threads having mysteriously vanished I guess I should be glad this one is still here.

Recently got Netflix and have since watched 2 anime series: Ga-Rei -Zero-, and Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne. I have also, since the last update, watched the first half of Soul Eater (20something episodes) and I'll get the last half at the end of July.

Ga-Rei -Zero- is a short 12 episode anime, but it was definitely quite enjoyable. Paranormal action packed with a touch of drama and a smidge of Yuri, that's how I would describe it. The really isn't much girl on girl stuff except for some playful stuff, the main characters are girls (but it's not an anime full of just girls). It gives a feeling of being a precursor to perhaps a second season (though there is no second season) but even so, it was quite good on its own. There are a few things during the first episode that don't have anything to do with anything in the rest of the anime, so it's slightly confusing. Perhaps there was more meaning to those scenes to which I am referring, in the manga (if there was one).

Rin on the other hand was completely freaking amazing. I had been pondering on buying it for a long while, but always put it off because the series is only 6 episodes long. What I didn't know what that each episode is roughly about 45 minutes long (instead of the standard 25-30). It tells an amazing story of an immortal woman, who is just as badass as she is sexy and yes her name is Rin, derp. Each episode takes you further and further in time, and to be honest I didn't even realize it until about the 3rd or 4th episode when they start really flying by in the years and the technology advances become more and more apparent. There are subtle hints at the start of each episode (if you don't catch the captions that say the year) that time's moved forward since the last episode you just watched. Anyway.. I can't say enough positive things about this anime, it was great. It does have a lot of sexual material though, and 90% of it is girl on girl action because.. apparently immortal women only really feel alive when they are stimulated, be it by pain or pleasure. It's all explained very well and had a satisfying conclusion, at least in my opinion.

Soul Eater was another great anime. I tried to show it to some of my friends, but they couldn't get past the first 3 episodes (which are introductory episodes about each team of main characters). I found it funny and interesting, and the humor and silliness of the characters to me is what sets them apart from other run of the mill anime characters. Each character has their own quirks, faults and strengths and I appreciated that, even if the quirks were really silly. Unfortunately my friends didn't feel the same way so I watched the rest of this anime by myself and I absolutely loved it! The animation is very fluid and matches the slightly cartoonish style of the characters, but it's just done so well. This anime is extremely colorful, yet not to the point where you feel overwhelmed. Colors are used brilliantly, the story builds up to something way more awesome than you would be eluded to believe in the first few episodes. I can't wait to watch the second half of this anime, the first half was so awesomely done. It is deceptively fantastic.

There is indeed a manga side of Ga-Rei Zero, but it's just Ga-Rei, and the anime is a prequel to the manga. So you'll get to find out what happened to all the characters after the anime ends, but it gets... convoluted in spots. And the character designs aren't as appealing, lol.

Yes yes yes! Totally fell in love with SoulEater after I got NetFlix. A friend who plays Aion with me got me into it and I had a hard time putting it down after I got started.

Yeah a friend of mine turned me on to that anime a few years back. Its different but its good. I enjoyed it. The second half gets better. Things really pick up and you get to see some of the more serious side of the different main characters.

I honestly could not get into Soul Eater, and another friend of mine couldn't either. I was reading the manga, and I read about 20-30 chapters before I just stopped. He's been watching the anime but he's not getting into it. Not quite sure why, I know the show has a big following, and a lot of people who have similar tastes to me enjoy it, but I just couldn't get into it.

Been watching the Ao No Exorcist (Blue Exorcist) since it came out in ANime form, but I've been reading the manga since the beginning. I haven't updated what I watch/read, if I did, I'd be constantly updating. I'll try to make a big post about the stuff I'm currently reading, but I don't watch all that much anime anymore.

Hurray for the thread being revived! ^^

I havn't read the Manga but I thought the anime for Soul Eater was awesome. Death the Kid <3. Totally recommend this for anyone liking the action/comedy genre.

Lately I have been rewatching a few of my favorite series on DVD that I probably first watched around 2 years ago. First of which being Full Metal Panic! (all 3 seasons) which I watched last week and i'm currently rewatching all seasons of Negima!

I'll probably watch an unwatched series after this which I have quite a few piling up. Maybe Fortune Arterial or Asobi ni Iku yo! but nothings decided yet.

Netflix is so awesome!

I just finished watching Birdy The Mighty: Decode Part 1, which stands alone quite well on it's own and I definitely enjoyed it. Uhh.. not sure what to say about it. If I'm not mistaken, there was an original Birdy The Mighty (or maybe it was just Birdy) anime quite a while back and this is like a renewed version of the anime. I really don't know more than that as it's not something I've kept up on.

Currently watching Part 2 of Decode, pretty much a sequel, events take place a month after part 1 ends and there's as new plot and a few new characters being introduced. Looks good so far.

So.. I finished up Part 2 of Birdy The Mighty: Decode. Plotwise, it was somewhat similiar to Part 1 only in a way, roles were slightly switched. It was still good, and in some way seemed better.

I was right, in remembering about the original Birdy The Mighty anime, which of course hailed from the original manga. The newer anime I think caters more to the newer manga, yet I believe still remains relatively faithful to the original source.

It's a sci-fi anime, with comedy, a satisfying amount of action and a splash of young romance.. though not between the two characters you would think. Both parts are wonderful and could work well to be watched separately, but best watched in sequence as a wider picture (story) is shared between the two.

Now, I never watched the original but having read it's summary it essentially sounds very similar to what I watched with some minor differences and, I am sure, a different base plot (like, different bad guys and stuff).

One of the things I did enjoy were the fight scenes. Typically less details where used in order to provide more fluid animation. It's very similar to some of the fluid fight sequences in Naruto (some of the original Sasuke vs. Naruto and FoxNaruto vs. Pain).. probably even some of the same animators, but I don't care to look all that up. Needless to say, I loved it. Good show!
