What Anime/Manga are you Reading/Watching? Part the Second!

Currently watching Chaos;Head and when I finish I will start on Steins;Gate since apparently they take place in the same world and Stein's;Gate is a year after the events in Chaos;Head from what I've read.

Wondering if I should also check out Robotics;Note as well, and where that fits in or if I should have watched it first.. *shrug* I didn't even know it had anything to do with it until I skimmed briefly some parts of the Chaos;Head wiki.

Man, I really want more Sword Art Online lol. Though I'd almost rather they go back and fill in some of the huge gaps in the first arc than go on to the later arcs; I didn't find the ALO arc as interesting as the SOA one. I don't imagine the GGO will catch my fancy quite so well either; the concept is missing something without the everpresent threat of death to the characters.

On the up side they've got tons of room to play around in, and it's the kind of thing I can see the author going for; rather like the situation with Toaru Majutsu no Index and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun in a way. While Railgun is more of a side story, it also fills in a number of gaps itself.

So.. I've watched quite a bit of anime since the last time I posted. But, I'll just go with what I've recently and currently am watching.

I was wondering around and stumbled upon someone's review/impressions of Shiki. Basically they wrote that it was a horror anime about vampires that actually got it right, you know, actually being a horror type anime and not some kind of comedy/romance with vampires and the paranormal thrown in. Being that this person said it was a good horror anime I figured it would be perfect to watch since Halloween just recently ended.

And I've got to say it was pretty good. There were a few scenes that were definitely creepy and the plot over all was pretty darn interesting. But after finishing the series, I just don't know if it really fits a "Horror" subcategory. There is certainly a lot throughout most of the anime that was really interesting. If anything I would consider it more of a very good paranormal thriller/drama. It probably has one of the most realistic takes on vampires I've ever seen portrayed in an anime. Not that I believe in vampires or anything, but what occurs in this anime is in essence very plausible for the most part.

Definitely a good watch. If you like paranormal anime or vampire anime, I think you will definitely enjoy this one.

And lately I've been watching Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, the second season of the Magi anime. Season 1, pretty spectacular. This anime takes place in a world of Arabian legends, which in and of itself makes this particular anime unique, and follows the story of two main protagonists (starting in season 1) Aladdin (a young Magi, who is just recently exploring the world for the first time) and Alibaba (a young former prince who has since led a pretty varied life and experienced quite a bit considering his age). They are eventually accompanied by 2 more companions (Morgiana is a badass young woman) along their journey and meet several other Arabian legends, such as Sinbad. Sinbad is fucking awesome. That is all. He's just not always a very nice guy, however for the most part he is seen as a very agreeable and likeable individual.

Magi is a shonen so it does have kind of a typical shonen thing going on, there are powers and the main characters as you would expect are considerably powerful and receive upgrades to their powers/abilities throughout the show so far.. which is fairly typical and in the case of this show spectacularly awesome as the combat utilizes not only more traditional martial style weapons (Swords, Daggers, Fists, etc.) but also magic (which plays a pretty big role). The animation is quite colorful and the combat scenes all seem to be very fluid and detailed, which can also be said for most of the show so far.

It's got good comedy bits, some drama thrown in, and of course plenty of action. Been greatly enjoying this show, and the second season is only up to episode 5 at the time I type this so there's still quite a good deal left to go before season 2 ends. Another great thing is that season 2 picks up directly where season 1 leaves off, albeit the first few minutes of season 2, episode 1, are a bit of a flash-foward to an event that apparently will happen much later (like toward the end, I'm betting) in season 2.

I gotta say, while Space Dandy initially turned me off with that super short first episode I have given it a chance and have watched it each week. Thankfully all of the other episodes are of normal length.

The show's pretty damn funny, and what I think is pretty amazing is that Funimation is actually airing it roughly the same time as it airs in Japan, but with a dub. And after having watched the first 2 episodes in Japanese and Subs, I'm inclined to say the Dub is pretty damn spot on.

In fact my only gripe is on how each episode so far, does not carry over to the next episode.. completely. It's not a fluid story at all, but considering the context of some of the episodes so far.. that may be working in it's favor to some degree.

I mean, what do you do when you write the entire universe into zombification? You clean slate it. What do you do when you kill off a main character just for the lulz? Clean slate it.

In fact I'm actually kind of entrigued that Ep. 5 actually had "To be continued" at the end. Might just be the first episode to actually carry over stuff from the previous episode.

Also Episode 5 managed to be awesome, a bit cliche (a lot cliche), interesting, reflective, and quite hilarious. But that kind of also sums up just about every episode so far, too. lol

So, I'm not sure but I think Magi: The Kingdom of Magic has finished this season, though there could possibly be 1 more episode next week. The site I watch it on didn't show any "next episode preview" but then I haven't seen those in any of the last few episodes. I am soooo glad there was an episode today, because Episode 24 would have been kind of a crappy way to just end the series. 25 on the other hand, can end after that and I'd be perfectly fine and contented.

Man, I really enjoy this show! I really hope the anime keeps going for more seasons, I believe the Manga is still ongoing but I think it's already pretty long so hopefully there's plenty of material to work with. There really was a very limited amount of time invested into 2 of the 3 main characters for roughly 80% of this season, but even so it was still an amazing season.

EDIT/ADDED: Out of curiosity I checked up on the Magi manga, it appears where the anime has just ended is literally only about 25 chapters behind the Manga. So.. sadly I don't see another anime season coming for quite a while if it's going to follow the Manga's same story. Right now they are smack dab in the middle of a story arc that would likely comprise the whole next season, if it is ever created. Damn good story though. Just sad I wont see it for quite some time, if at all. Might just have to keep up with the Manga from now on after all.

So, with the new season of anime going on, I've gotten into a few of the shows airing and so far I gotta say I like the ones I've been watching.

Blade And Soul. This one I started because well, even though it's not out in the west yet, I have had my eye on the MMO for a loooooong time now. Honestly I think I was getting excited to play this when I still played FFXI and was hearing about it and seeing early stuff (2008). The anime is straight out of the game from everything I can tell, npcs, classes, races, you name it, it's represented. So far I am just kind of watching to see where this story goes, so far I like it but it seems like it still needs more fleshing out, which may or may not happen. I love the animation style and action scenes are quite fluid. So there's always that to enjoy.

Soul Eater Not!

At first, before I even watched the show, I was like "Soul Eater? That anime was awesome. But Not? Is this some kind of parody anime?" Turns out, not a parody anime, and in fact does take place in the same universe, even same city/school. The only thing is, it's a lot more girly....... which doesn't actually detract from the show that much. As far as story goes, seems like they have got the characters fairly fleshed out, and the main story is possibly going to start going. From what I can tell, it seems to me like it takes place quite possibly before the actual Soul Eater anime takes place, that or just slightly before and perhaps runs concurrent (hasn't gotten far enough to find out yet). All I know is Medusa is still a Nurse at the school.. so yeah, that places it at the beginning or before the story of the first Soul Eater anime. All the main characters, save 2, seem to be females and so yeah.. like I mentioned, it's a bit girly. Heavy on the girl on girl innuendos and that kind of fan service. The character from the first anime series to make appearances, which is cool to see. So far it's been pretty decent all in all. Looking forward to more of it.

DBZ Kai. Well yeah, their starting up the whole Majin Buu saga. I kinda watch these nowadays just to marvel at how much fat they trim off while still keeping the plot of the story smoothly going as if it wasn't having whole sections removed. And to remind myself why Akira Toriyama is awesome (aside from Chrono Trigger and Dragon Warrior/Quest).

I feel like I'm missing mentioning another anime that I'm watching, but oh well. I'll have to add it later if I remember what it was. Curse you Golden Week!

So, um after the latest episode of "Soul Eater Not!" I am kind of no longer sure about my thoughts that it must have taken place before the original Soul Eater series. Some very relevant character that was always alive in Soul Eater just kinda bit the dust apparently. So basically that means this series is set after the events of the first series. Hmm, doesn't seem that way to me at all. In fact, it's confusing as hell. Medusa is clearly shown to be the DWMA's nurse, and after the event's in the original Soul Eater, there's no way that could be. Yet, this character that just died was alive the entire original Soul Eater series. Continuity Errors anyone?

Other than that, I am still finding myself enjoying the show. Seems to me it's probably going to wrap up in the next two episodes though, which kinda sucks because I'd like to know more about these characters and what happens in this world.

Also, that anime I was forgetting about from my last post was Captain Earth. Really enjoying this show as well. It's kind of an Alien/Mecha/Teen anime and has a pretty fair amount of action and storytelling. I think the animation is very exceptional as well.

Also Magi has a new side anime airing, but... not airing frequently. Called Magi: The Adventures of Sinbad, this show is.. as you would expect, all about Sinbad and his childhood/growth. So far there's only been one episode, but it was good and anyone who has enjoyed the Magi series will doubtlessly enjoy this as well. Like I mentioned, it's airing, but I don't know what the time table is on it. So far there's been only one episode and I think it's been a few weeks already since it came out. Usually anime is released weekly, so I am not sure what's going on with this show. I am greatly looking forward to the eventual continuation of the normal Magi series in anime form. I feel that it must be doing very successful if they are able to put out this side series after it's already had 2 seasons of the main series. The manga is still ongoing, and likely production won't start on the 3rd anime series until the current manga arc is finished which does seem to be wrapping up relatively soon.

So I started watching another ongoing series. Started about the same time as the newest season of anime out right now, but I just picked it up which means I can watch up to the current last episode all at once. Not gonna make it though.. too ..tired..

Anyway, it's called No Game No Life, and it's.... definitely interesting, to say the least. Studio MAD House is doing it and they have a long history of good shows and this one so far seems no exception. Animation style is superb, as to be expected from MAD House. Basically starts out with a brother and sister who are both extreme Neets (says so in the anime) and all they do is play games and basically live to be the best at that. Well the anime sends them to basically the most perfect world for them, a world where everything is decided by games. So yeah.. I really don't know what to classify this anime as. It's kind of fantasy, because they basically got transported to a type of fantasy world. But other than that.. I'm kind of at a loss on how to describe it.

It's really funny and amusing, yet still manages to have a lot of action in it and semi-serious moments, with some story telling. However, there's yet to be any real backstory to the two main characters themselves. At least from what I've watched which so far has been episodes 1 through 6. Just about every episode has them playing a game of some kind with someone. Sounds wierd, and it is wierd, but I've also found it quite interesting. Wasn't sure what to expect when I started it, but so far I can definitely say I'll watch this one through to it's end. And there's hot anime girls in it too, so that's always a plus.

I'm loving no game no life.

I'm also watching Chaika the Coffin princess, the irregular at magic high school, and the second season of fairy tail for this current season.

Yay Baj, was starting to wonder if I was just talking to myself in this thread. XD

Sorry, I've been really busy, haven't stopped watching anime, just haven't posted about it. Since this season is almost over, I'm really looking forward to these series for the summer season:

Rail Wars
Sword Art Online 2
Tokyo ESP

there's some others I might try to see if I want to pick them up, but those are the only 3 I'm really interested in right now.

Only thing I've been watching this season is Knights of Sidonia, which for some reason I actually found easier to follow in the anime as opposed to the manga. It's more typical for me to find the manga, read the hell out of it, and then lose interest in the anime lol, but for some reason I found the manga, loved the concept, promptly got frustrated with it, and wound up waiting for the anime.

Well, crap. I just noticed that Google decided to block all non-Chrome store extensions, so my manga reader extension is now completely shut down. I don't even remember what websites I was using or how far I was in some series anymore. This is going to be a giant hassle to start reading manga again.

Edit:
Er, nvm thought this was the naruto thread for a minute.
Not sure why.

Okay well, started 2, possibly 3 new anime.

Samuria Jam - Bakumatsu Rock: okay.. fuedal Japan.. with modern technology. The government controls the people with the Shinsengumi which in this anime are male pop idol singers/groups. Yeah...... and then you have your outsider guys that are trying to bring Rock to Japan and they are basically J-Rocking the hell out of ...whatever they want. I'll admit this anime is pretty damn out there, almost Obobo-bobobo out there, but at least the music is relatively good, the animation is quite colorful.. hell the main protagonist has two-tone red and blue hair... yeah..

Also, when did rocking out make your clothes explode off of you and create fireworks and explosions from nothing? lol.. yeah, it's that kind of anime. The only thing I don't really care for about this anime is that it suffers from the "every boy must be super cute to the point they look like a pretty girl". Seriously, I thought two characters were for sure female until they either spoke or had their shirts exploded... and I was proven wrong. The main character even calls one of them a "pretty boy" and in a complimentary manner. Yeeesh. I am not really sure if I will continue watching this one. I just decided to check it out since it was new.

Next up: Tokyo Ghoul.
I like this anime. It's dark, gory and even though it's only the first episode I know I want to see more. I'm aware the mangas been going for a little while now, but I haven't read it. My nephew actually just told me a little bit about it a few days ago so I thought I'd give it a try since it just now got it's anime adaptation.. and it is good.

Lastly, for the hell of it I decided to try another new anime and see what it was about: Glasslip (or is it Glass Lip, i dunno). I have no idea what this anime is about, what category to put it under, or anything. I watched the first episode and I am at a loss. It seems like just another slice of life anime with a bit of romance that might be tossed in, but it also seems like there is some kind of magic going on as well but the anime is not exactly clear on that. I have no idea.. I almost want to watch it and see if perhaps it turns into something else unexpected, but then there's the part of me that doesn't really want to waste my time on a boring anime. Yeah.. I think that is one way to describe what I watched in the first episode, boring, but pretty. Animation was smooth and yeah.. I just don't know. I get the feeling there's something more to this one but I really don't know.

I just downloaded the first episode of tokyo ghoul, haven't had a chance to start it yet.

From myanimelist, it seems like the main character wanted to be a glass artisan. It looks like just a slice of life, so I skipped it.

How's Rail Wars? I haven't checked that out yet but noticed it's recently started up.

Also, since I couldn't sleep much yesterday I watched the Detective Conan Vs. Lupin III movie. And it was fantastic. I haven't even watched much of either shows to be honest, but have watched enough to have a pretty good general idea of the characters.

I haven't looked the first episode of rail wars yet, apparently it came out yesterday. Apparently most of the fansub websites have all but shut down except for horriblesubs, I'll have to start searching for more subbing sites this season apparently. I'll watch it tonight, I'm in the middle of moving this weekend.

I saw tokyo ghoul last night, it's definitely interesting, I'm curious where they are going to go with it.

Edit: sweet, sword art online 2 is out already, I'm definitely watching this tonight.

So I watched the first episode of Rail Wars. The premise for this show sounds absolutely boring lol.. a show about railway worker trainees. But I have to say the first episode was anything but boring and I actually found myself enjoying it. A lot more action than I would have expected, given the premise and the fact that it's about railway workers of all things. lol.. of course there's a little bit of creative license. This anime seems like it'll actually be pretty fun to watch.

I started and finished all of Psycho-Pass. Excellent anime.

I saw there was a "Psycho-Pass 2" that is currently airing, and decided to check it out and have decided now after I watched about 10 minutes of the first episode and then skipped foward a bit, that I am not going to watch it ...because it's the same exact thing as the first season, only with a few added extras. Mostly it seems they have added new scenes with the main bad guy of the first season. I suppose this is to understand him better, since the original show didn't dive too terribly deep with him, yet at the same time I felt they delivered his character well. Definitely well enough to where I'm irritated that they felt they needed to do this "re-start". It's literally the same show, just basically, the extended scene version.

If you've never seen Psycho-Pass before, I suppose it couldn't hurt to watch Psycho-Pass 2 in it's place. Except you'll be waiting a while for the finish, and in my opinion should just watch the regular show because I don't feel you'd really be missing much compared to this slightly new version.

To switch things back to another show I finished up a little while back: Soul Eater: Not! I was rambling about inconsistancies because of a particular character that died. Well I realized that in the original Soul Eater, this particular character wasn't exactly "alive" to begin with (or rather, I had forgotten that detail). So, it actually all makes perfect sense and this show is basically a prequel that focuses on completely different characters. I have no gripes about it now, it was actually kind of brilliant how they worked in certain things from the first show.
