I saw this thread on LOLALLA but it seemed worthwhile, just curious to see how wonderful people of Quetz think...

1: At what level do you no longer tolerate terribly gimped gear? ( I mean -gimp- )
2: At what level do you no longer tolerate underleveled sub jobs?

3: At what point will you straight up abandon a PT due to absolutely horrendous teamwork?

4: At what point do you find PLing absolutely unacceptable?

for me?
1: Level 10
2: Level 18
3: I usually give any pt a chance, but if it's obviously horrible I have no remorse to bail within 30min
4: Never honestly. People play how they want to, as long as it doesnt have a negative influence on the rest of the PT. One of the best players I've ever met came everywhere with a 75whm (that he controlled as well). It's nice to have a backup plan I guess.. Crap happens, people wipe, sometimes a mob pops at just the wrong time or Guivre gets bored.. nice to not have to eat R1 when R3 is available. Also removes some downtime and extends chains.
(blah blah, more on PLing..)
When I PL I do it more of a "I'm here if stuff goes wrong" like a link, or anything.. but I kill it.. and if they cant beat the mob the yCFH so they lose the exp.. I am just damage control for my friends.. some people I may PL for fun, I don't mind people getting hand-held through the dunes.. it's hell. I skip it on my jobs, I solo to 20. Beyond that, anything more than a supporting hand annoys me, but I'm not gonna flip about it.

1: At what level do you no longer tolerate terribly gimped gear?

Depends on the job really, but somewhere between Qufim and Kazham

2: At what level do you no longer tolerate underleveled sub jobs?

Same as above really, but I tend to be ok solong as it is not uber underleveled. like a 27/10 in Kazham if neither are advanced jobs, I will give them a break.

3: At what point will you straight up abandon a PT due to absolutely horrendous teamwork?

after my third mouth of dirt.

4: At what point do you find PLing absolutely unacceptable?

Dunno, I won't PL myself, or bring a PL, but if someone is bringing one I have no problem with it, and use the excuse to myself that they are purely after healing skillups.

1)What do you mean by -gimp- though?
2) Really what's wrong with a 75WHM/25SMN?
3)When the MNK just does Raging Fists or a WAR does Rampage every chance they get or if you die more than once in 2 hours.
4)When the person PL you can't solo the mob.

Gimp? I'm talking like Bronze gear in Valkurm, Scale in Yuhtunga... Gear with no stat attributes all the way up.. like a Gambison at 50... Gimp = armor that is absolutely horrible

1) 30
2) 30
3) When I start going negative xp or something like 500 xp in 30 mins or something
4) Dont care, ever.

For 1 and 2, I really dont mind for those trying to get to 30 asap. I know I did it once(well the gimp sj anyways), so I cant blame other first timers.

1: Dunes - solo with what you want, but as soon as you join a party, I expect at least NQ of level-appropriate equipment. At almost any level, if you're hard up on cash, you can almost always equip yourself with NQ gear for a fraction of the price that you would have paid for optimal gear.

2: I've almost always built my own parties. If I see an underlevelled sub or a grossly incorrect sub, I don't invite. Doing so only perpetuates the problem.

3: Again, I usually bulid the parties so I don't hestitate to make requests on how everyone does their job in order to optimize exp/hr if things aren't working out. Usually I give it about an hour and most of the time, everything falls into place by then. But, if we're still having problems, I'll just say 'hold pull' and have everyone rest while I talk about the problem, suggest a solution and ask for everyone else's input on how to fix it.

4: It really depends. I actually find PLing to be helpful during the first 10 levels, because unless you are a solo job, there's not much to be learned from running around the starting areas repeatedly bashing stuff until you level up. However, I completely disagree with people PLing parties in the Dunes. THAT is where all the valuable learning experiences occur with regards to parties for the rest of your game career. A player who's had to sweat it out in the Dunes will be much less of a n00b by the time he or she hits Qufim and even less of one when it comes time for the jungles.

1) I'd say level 20. I can understand the mentality (even though I don't agree with it) of people just wanting to rush through the "Valkurm" stage of levelling, but after that, I bloody well expect you to take the time necessary to equip yourself with bare necessities.

It goes beyond even "gimp"; I've seen people all the way into their 30s with equipment slots still EMPTY. That drives me nuts. When you can get a level 1 back piece for 250 gil, there's no excuse. Put the brakes on for a second, and hold off on levelling as long as it takes to clothe yourself. >_<

2) I never like the looks of an underlevelled sub. Seeing one on somebody in an experience party immediately brings out a bias in me towards them ... I just can't help it. It's evidence of caring almost nothing about how well you perform in a party. I can't stand for people to see me with a broken subjob ... even in very unique situations, like putting on a level 15 thief subjob to farm with, I'll still throw up /anonymous out of self-consciousness.

In the end, however, I can deal with it if it's only off by one or two levels. Still, once again, I have experiences that go above and beyond a mere "broken" subjob.

A few months ago, I was levelling white mage in Yuhtunga Jungle. I had taken the airship to Kazham, put my flag up, and sure enough, I received an invite within ten minutes. Imagine my surprise, then, when I discovered that one of the members of the party I had joined was a bard ... with no subjob whatsoever ... at rank 5. At first, I literally thought she had done that "no subjob" mog house trick as a joke.

The alternative explanation was too moronic a situation to even entertain: that she had inflicted her subjobless self on poor, suffering parties on some other job at least to level 30, to unlock bard, and had managed to worm her way all the way up to Rank 5 in that state, to boot.

After I chuckled nervously a little in party chat, and told her to stop screwing around, and put a subjob on, I did manage to ascertain that the first explanation was probably the most likely. Her words: "I'm not an idiot. This is a personal choice I've made."

To give yourself a "challenge" or try to pull off a "stunt" is all well and good, and may be fun for you ... but that's the sort of thing you get linkshell friends to help you with. You don't, however, force every party you join to carry the burden of your intentionally weakened self for the enjoyment of your personal experiment. You don't, in such a situation, expect to ride the stream of the standard, communal party scene in order to get to your destination. You make special arrangements with people willing to work with you, and carry the load that your subjob otherwise would have.

I told her as much, and after suffering her acidic, sarcastic displeasure, I politely excused myself from the party before it even started. The leader (a newbish, rank 1 fellow, probably on his first time to Kazham) sent me repeated tells begging me to come back, but I told him that I wasn't interested in a party in which everyone in it wasn't doing all that can reasonably be expected to make it good.

I used to do random /search all's on her name, until I finally forgot it (I believe it was "Wendy"), but I never saw that character online again after that. I don't think her little challenge was as successful as she would have hoped, probably because the people that were going to have the hardest time with it were the ones she expected to invite her into parties.

3) I almost never will, until I feel like I've done absolutely everything I could to make an improvement. If there's a lot of hostility and snapping in the party, however, with nobody willing to accept blame for slacked-off duties, I might be more inclined to say that I don't think it's working out, and disband.

I get "bad" parties all the time, but I've almost never run into the situation above in which I'd literally leave. If I'm managing to pull in at least 2,000 experience points an hour, even though that's a horrendous rate for even a mediocre party, I figure it's still better than soloing or sitting on my Tarutaru ass in Jeuno.

Really, I've desperately "wanted" to leave parties far more often than I've actually done it.

4) I learned to dislike power-levellers intensely in parties when I was levelling white mage ... particularly if I felt like I was doing an adequate job as healer before they came along. Most people crave them like crack at lower levels, however, which I've got to say isn't very healthy for someone who's genuinely new to the game. There's very much "power-level newbies" coming up more and more often these days, and the adjustment to actual, real party tactics is made a lot more difficult for them the longer their first exposure to it is put off.

On the other hand, I have no problem power-levelling friends who are soloing a new job. If you just want to get thief to 15 to get at Treasure Hunter, for example, there's no reason you shouldn't ask a friend to speed things up a bit.

heh... reminds me of that Japanese BLM who was around the first year of NA release, he was subless (for real) and made it to 75 '-' I think his name was Bono :3

1. idk... i rarely check people without bazaars so a lot of the time I am oblivious to what people are wearing. If i were someone who checked though i would probably lose tollerance around 20.

2. I have very little tollerance for underleveled subs... not because of what the may or may not give to the main job, but because it denotes lazyness and lack of care for your contribution to the rest of the party. Its like people who don't eat food during parties, just drives me nuts :( I won't invite people who don't have a full sub, and if i was invited to a pt rather than building it, i'll ask people who don't have a full sub why they don't if they are past rank 3... and greatly incourage them to go level it as soon as the pt we are in ends.

3. The only time i've ever left a party was when someone refused to use food, and was a real bitch about it. I find it very difficult to ditch, even if the party is horrible.

4. Don't really mind a PL as long as the party functions like a normal party would, except perhaps with faster pulls. Not something i'd personally look for or see as a benifit past... say, quifim '-';

Alot of people dont have the cash to get vermy's and gear of that calibur at all, if your a mage job, honestly youre gear does not matter. White Mages still have Cure's, Black Mages sitll have nukes, Bards still have songs, Blue Mages still have spells. Bronze in Valk is perfectly fine, as long as the weapon is up to date. Gambison is a fine piece of gear for a WHM, and looks cool to boot. I know from my stand point, I dont want to run poor on gear unless I really care about the job, and I would have to say NIN is the only job you need to really care about the gear with, hell I cant afford a hairpin, or leaping boots, nor do I really want to camp them, so I go for other gear I can afford and that I want to use. The game is filled with elitist principals, and I can not stand it. Some people are more fortunate and dont care whether they have no friends nor people outside of the computer screen, thats fine. But dont be pissed when somones just trying to level and theyre gear is not up to somone else's par. Its not the gear, its how you play. I got BARD to around 65 and didnt know to use different horns, and I went from level 30-60 in less than two weeks, so if you can play your job thats all that matters.

1. Before lvl 30 anything goes, many people rush to get advanced jobs, I may have spent hours fishing so I could have all HQ gear at lvl 20 blm but that's not everyone and really lvling is so easy with such small tnls. Later on I don't mind much what gear people hav as long as it makes sense, DDs equiping STR, DEX, acc and att. tanks geting hp and def or evasion. mages getting mp mnd int gear depending on job. also food required especially for meles and tanks. At lvl 60+ I expect most meles to have haubys or if they can't wear that at least something with usefull stats such as a scorpian harness.

2. I don't mind underlvled subs much as long as it doesn't effect performance much and it's something reasonable, like trying to get lvl 60 with like a lvl 28 subjob so they can finish off AF before going back and lvling up their subjob again. After lvl 60 I kind of expect fully lvled subs though. I don't consider that one JP taru blm getting lvl 75 without a subjob acceptable, I would not party with somone like that. Also don't complain about not getting invites if your subjob is underlvled, go lvl your subjob then complain.

3. I don't abandon parties. I let the noobs cry about how much they suck, I find it entertaining.

4. I only allow PLing if the party is unable to find a suitable healer. When lvling my pld I used the /blockaid command to stop PLers several times. If 1 whm isn't enough to keep a party alive then the tank sucks or the whm sucks or all the DDs suck and shouldn't get the good exp, we don't need more lvl 75 noobs around, we got enough.

1: At what level do you no longer tolerate terribly gimped gear? ( I mean -gimp- )
i would say around lvl 25 heading into kazham is where i start to look at peoples gear. but what really bugs me is when someone is wearing expensive gear that doesn't work for the job. example the other day i was lvl'n NIN in garlaige citadel and our SAM had on nothing but eva gear including in emperor hairpin and even had agi rings and eva+ atk- earrings on. that to me is really just gimping yourself. i could see if they were struggling for gil but when they have an item like emp pin theres no excuse to NOT have gear that improves your job. esp when i was in my eva gear i was doing more damage than the sam and when i switched to my full atk set i was really bringing in higher numbers than this supposed DD of the party

2: At what level do you no longer tolerate underleveled sub jobs?
eh to me 1 lvl difference isn't that bad especially if you passed up your subjob while parting 3 or more lvls to me is just plaing lazy. whenever im farming with my really gimped thf sub i make sure to always be /anon because thats just how i am.

3: At what point will you straight up abandon a PT due to absolutely horrendous teamwork?
ill leave the party after i try i talk some sense into everyone to try and get the party to mesh together to work smoothly. when i start getting the whole i know what im doing cuz ive got so and so job at lvl 75 but they are just sucking extremely bad. thats when i find its time to hang up my hat to that party and look somewhere else. i have no problem dieing in a good party just because a sleep didn't land on a link but dieing because of someones stupidity is another story to me.

4: At what point do you find PLing absolutely unacceptable?
i have no problem having a PL around throughout qufim or kazham. but thats just to handle links or make sure the party doesn't wipe for something going wrong or someones plain stupidity. the only time ive ever had someone straight up PL the party was when no whm was seeking and i had filled the party with nothing but melee and pretty much beat the crap outta mobs letting the PL just main heal.

1) I don't check gear unless your lack of results brings it into question. Thus, if one player happens to make good on skill>gear, and puts up results average for the level range, I'm not going to notice. I don't tolerate gimpiness when it's enough to be noticed.

2) I only check subjob levels when I first enter a party. If it's capped when we start that's fine with me. If in the course of the party, a member outgrows their subjob level, I don't care.

3) I don't abandon pts. I feel bad doing so. I'll suffer a bad party, rant to myself, and maybe complain in LS chat, but I'll stay until others leave.

4) As long as my job isn't a tanking or a healing job, I don't care about powerlevelling. I come to parties to do whatever my job does, and get exp. So long as I can do that, I don't care. I'd prefer no powerlevellers, but that's not realistic in this day and age.

Essentially, my reaction to all of FFXIs problems is a dismissive "I don't care". Complaining doesn't help, and I'm not motivated enough to fight the good cause. People can do whatever they want so long as it doesn't get in my way. Even if it does get in my way, I probably won't do anything about it.

idc about gear or underlvled subs. What gets me are people that go afk 10-15+ times during an exp pt or whms that make the pt wait so they can go raise someone. Just because person X has allday to play doesn't mean the other 5 people do or want to.

I pl myself, so pling is fine for me. Skipping dunes and qufim pt's = priceless.

To be honest, I think these kinds of threads only show that there really aren't that many people willing to help out others, because they are so intolerant and have truly forgotten what its like to be new to the game.

I'll have days where seeing someone who has an underleveled job will bother me, or seeing someone with the bad equipment.... But if it comes to a point where it bothers me, I try to advise the person and give them helpful advice, or constructive criticism.

I have yet to have one of those "I won't party with you - DISBAND" moments because really that just reminds me of an immature kid who doesn't get their way, and stomps out the door throwing a fit.

If the person doesn't have decent up to date gear, try advising them to farm for gil and try to explain the importance of having up to date gear, or better yet, if you have the ability go out of your way and help that person obtain the gear.

If the person has an underleveled subjob, again try explaining the importance and benefits of having it fully leveled.

There will be some people that will be ignorant of helpful advise you may give, and in those cases there are better ways to leave than simply warping or disbanding after 30 minutes =/

I'm glad that i've always been tolerant and never denied partying with someone with the characteristics described... because I usually end up helping a player become a more skilled player in the long run by teaching them something.

I can relate to the days you have when you just want to have a perfect party and lvl up, but people should take the time to stop thinking only of themselves and realize that this game's success is dependant on "group work" and therefore if YOU help other players become better, then you're allowing for the chance to have a better party by passing on your knowledge and expertise.

i totally agree with you Zer but sometimes players just don't listen and start ranting and raving that they know what they are doing but are complety screwing up. The LS i am in lately has been bringing in players that are willing to learn. Pretty much if we see someone shout out asking how to make gil instead of the usual "Gimme gillorz". we help them out by showing them which quest they can start doing on by helping out with subjob quest/ rank quest/ building fame and so on and so forth and trying to answer all their questions to the best of everyones knowledge

Thats fine for newbs , but a good % of these "gimps" are rank5-10 and have jobs 60-75.

Even so, the majority of them were recruited by linkshells when they first started the game... that didn't bother to teach them the basics and so how can they know any better? Yes some players learn early on and are just "that good" to know these things... but the problem is that even when you're in palces like the dunes, you'll find high lvl players that will play for 5 minutes, and then disband because they are not tolerant of "newbness" and instead can't spare a few minutes to teach these players right in the beginning.

I know a few linkshells that are known for this, they take in players that are brand new and never bother helping them learn the basics of the game (like being well equipped etc) and then when you meet those players at lvl 60, you sit there wondering "why do they still not have a fully lvled subjob? o_O"

Players that have high ranks are usually also "babied" and have their linkshell get them everything they want, but again... its rare to find people that are tolerant and patient enough to help out with these problems. If you see a fault in a player, regardless of their lvl and rank you should try to help them be better by passing on you knowledge. This in turns makes better players. There people that exist that do this, and i'm glad to know of some of them myself.
