I've been gone for a while now, and although I suppose the job is played very similar to how it used to be played, I'd still like to know what the community looks for when they try to recruit a PLD for an XP party.

So what makes a PLD any good to everyone else? What equipment is a must have, what techniques do they rely on the most, is everything really THAT different?

*Edit* Let me also add that I'm level 72, almost 73...

And when the hell did Elk begin to attack in Saruta?! :shok:

Unfortunatly, people don't look for PLD at 70+ for xp parties.

The most important thing people will look for is what other jobs you have, lol.

from what I gather, paladins are a dead class at this point

With todays burn setups, PLDs are as useful as. . . PUP? I personally liked PLDs when i was in the Mire or w/e (Pre Merit like lv 72). They held hate alot better and the Silence did not completely fuck them over. But yeah, get to soloin?

I was afraid of that. Guess I'll get to crackin on some of my other jobs.

I think it's sad that SE would F over a job that wasn't ever really godlike to begin with. Though I imagine it wasn't on purpose, seems they are groping in the dark when it comes to most things.

PLD wasn't really screwed over in any way except for the fact that SE still treats VIT/DEF as if people XP off of T mobs only. And for the ones that do, PLD simply can't possibly get hate off of the melee fighting em, nor is PLD enough damage to really be worth the slot. That is to say, any issues they've had they've always had, and the only way they've been "screwed" is that they can't do four-digit damage. But that's not so much an issue of them being useless as it is SE sortof giving the other jobs a bit too much in comparison to other jobs.

I don't mind partying with most Paladins, as long as they actually wear some accuracy gear. That whole pure VIT/DEF-and-missing-90% crap doesn't fly for me.

I tried to make a PLD revival with PLD/DRG using Kinkobo. It worked even worse than it sounds lol

Which is exactly how PLD is getting screwed.

Now, at least this is some information I can use. Not sure how everyone else feels, but thanks for the feedback either way.

Party with jobs that also aren't terribly burn-friendly, most of whom would be quite happy to get an invite, particularly if they benefit from having a single solid tank rather than hate-bouncing. Just be prepared to make your own parties, really. You shouldn't have too much difficulty getting to 75 and getting fully buffered. Or even getting a moderate number of merits.

If you want a *ton* of merits, then I'd suggest considering whether any more merit-friendly job appeals to you. If not, then go right ahead and merit on PLD: never feel forced into levelling some job you *don't* want to play, just for merits. But if some alternative *does* appeal to you, then level that job you would've considered levelling anyway, and then merit on *that*. (Time efficiency and all.)

Also keep in mind that there's a variety of ways of getting exp (or merits) without a full-blown exp party. 2/3/4 person parties on somewhat weaker mobs (for example, Caedarva imps are pretty crappy for a full party of six 75's, but they're quite decent exp for a duo or trio). Besieged is free exp assuming you're alive when it ends. Every week you can run yourself a few easy and soloable exp scrolls. Go duo with a fellowship NPC (which can heal, tank, or DD depending on what you need). Or hell, even go soloing - PLD isn't too terrible at it. Do some ENMs for fun (and possible profit) every five days, some of them only needing a few people. Help with some CoP mission BCs that you've already beaten, and you get some exp for helping.

None of those options are, of course, nearly as fast as a real exp party, but the point is that there *are* alternatives, subpar though they may be.

=/ This post makes me sad.

In the words of Meaghan -

"I do not use Cure. I do not use Flash. I do not use Cover. What am I?"

Half of AG: "You're not a Paladin."

Meaghan: "Neither is my Tank."

As long as I'm not having to cure a yellow HP Paladin when they're sitting at full MP, I honestly don't ask for much more. Curing the Monk when they're at red and getting beat up on by the mob is nice to.

(The following does not apply to meripo, obviously...)

Great post Vil. Seriously. Although I do think it's sad that PLD got left by the wayside, no reason to cry over spilled milk at this point. I came back to play the game, and I can't think of a better reason to start a new job and bring it up.

Who knows, maybe WAR will be more fun now that I can swing the big heavy axe and people will invite me!

I don't mind partying with PLDs :O

But, I believe PLD's are still wanted for Dynamis, HNM's, and all that fun stuff. Its just like the BLM complex: Nobody wants to party with you, but everybody wants you at 75 for non-experience related things.

The only advice I can offer other than what Vill said is: Find a good group of friends. Ones who don't mind taking a little less EXP in order to party with friends. When we have LS parties, I could care less whether I'm getting crazy EXP, as long as everyone is havin a good time. At 66 I still find myself getting invites, so don't be too discouraged!

Partied with Gain, Darkdrifter, Ayri, Eleibfrid, and Vilurum tonight. Gain was a PLD DD, :shok: and I gimped along with my mixed MP/solo gear, and we somehow managed to get around 16k XP in a little less than two hours. I gained level 73(!!), Ayri gained 71, and most of the others got merit points too.

I honestly wish that all my XP parties could be so open minded. We didn't even have a tank really, everything just kind of... worked. I guess there is hope for me reaching 75 yet...

dont take this the wrong way but I dont think you'll have fun if you worry about what everyone else wants, it's always possible if you really want it; caving in to bandwagon would probrably make your game time a bit more miserable exp wise.

pld in mire(imho)> nin because if they're silenced they can voke or cover if they're amneisia'ed(made that word up) they can flash.

nin are great in mire as well but I'd prefer pld since nin(average ones) dont snatch hate back from pld as quick.

You could level Bst to 75 and then solo your pld with a bst sub. They have the second best Chr in the game so charming pets shouldnt be too hellish. And if you mischarm, BAM! shield skillups lol. You can do that while you seek so atleast you're getting some sort of XP while you wait for a party.
