What do you look for when finding a Paladin

Paladin haven't been screwed the least.
Sure, might not be best fitted for exp/merits, but shines for end game.

You could level Bst to 75 and then solo your pld with a bst sub. They have the second best Chr in the game so charming pets shouldnt be too hellish. And if you mischarm, BAM! shield skillups lol. You can do that while you seek so atleast you're getting some sort of XP while you wait for a party.

Done that. Works almost too easy.

These are all great ideas, but I think Khadir put it best. Thanks everyone, but I think I'll try to stick it out for what it worth.

Well if you still know where to stand with a BRD in the party, look me up and I'll come out and be your refresh whore. That or get a RDM main heal and I'll still come out lol

I'll probably just make you be my 4th melee whenever I make a merit/exp PT, like last night. Was a whole hell of a lot of fun. Just get some better DD gear haha

soloing is overrated. its boring as shit and lonely. get a duo partner or make your parties like i do.

I had an awesome pld the other day. PLing my pt in the dunes >.>

But yeah, pld is not wanted 70+ in pt's, but is however used alot in end game.

Jeez I didn't think anybody around here still remembered me let alone anything I said forever ago. O.0

i vaguely remember you and nei talking about it you said you were taking a few hits or death cant remember which or both in KFT

Yaaa Yaaa Yaaa

Sure PLD's may not be the in thing this fall, but do you notice the trend whenever a new expansion drops.... two or three jobs suddenly become against the norm, which may I remind you were the coolest thing before the expansion dropped. Keep your faith bretheren PLD WILL make a comeback in WoTG. Why would SE kill off the only true job intended to tank, and based on the premise of the new expansion I feel we have something special coming our way....if not we're a dying breed! and if you expect me to play Dancer SE has just lost another account!

Yeah I was on my BRD I believe and pulling hate on a regular basis without pulling. I kept puling hate because I was healing as much as the WHM and as soon as the WHM would get hit they would stop healing until the mob was almost dead.

pld's are "not wanted" 70+ cause everyone has cannon hardon's. i also hope like hell that this expantion restores some dignaty to this game as well as certain jobs.

Well if PLD's arent wanted past lv 70 I guess I lucked out getting my PLD to 70-75 in under a week I was seeking each weeknight and never had a problem finding partys, heck I still get occasional invites to partys as 75 PLD while I'm waiting to do stuff at sky/sea/etc.

It all depends on the leaders point of view maybe or what the party feels they need, I know everyones in love with ninjas these days but opportunity's are still out there for a good PLD.

Yeah, I actually got three different invites yestersday while I was sitting in my mog house NOT seeking! :nyam:

maybe DD's are starting to realize that having a tank that can actually keep the mob's attention is a good thing.

When people say you won't get invites as pld, they mean you wont get as many as a ninja. People will always need a tank as long as there are merit pts who are afraid to lose their sushi to birds, so buy a hauby and roll with it.

Actually, I'm sure it was CN. and iirc...

Meaghan: "You know it's a great party when the DRK Weapon skills once every other fight and no one says anything."

and...

Meaghan: "7 times. The crawler hit me 7 times before the pld got hate back.

Neisan: "How many hits can you take before you drop?

Meaghan: "Probably 8."

Neisan: ">.<"

and the coup de grace:

Meaghan: "Monk: Why are you casting cure on the mob?"

"PLD: because it increases my hate when I cast cure."

I almost lost my faith in plds that day. I also agree that alot of people just see one aspect of the game and think, 'Oh, such and such job/race can't do this' and so on. Sickens me.

Full of winfail. Win because it's funny, fail on the Paladin's part because it happened.

To be honest, I could care less what tanks for me, as long as someone actually does it and holds hate off of me.

I think a more apt question in the OP's case would be "What do you not look for when finding a Paladin?"

For me, the answer is this:

  • Someone (I'm looking at you, Galka and Elvaan) who sits on a full/mostly full MP bar while consistently in the yellow.
  • Corollary: someone who doesn't believe it's also his/her job to cure the party (hey, guess what! If you Curebomb your Souleater'd DRK, you'll keep hate on you instead of your WHM or RDM taking it).
  • Someone who doesn't manage hate with /ja's aside from "Provoke", and whines because "PLDs NEED PROVOKE". (I think someone who uses their native PLD JAs: Sentinel, Rampart, and the like, can complain that PLD could use a voke-style ja).
  • Someone who, in a SATA setup with a non-shadow DD, is the first to provoke (i.e. PLD+MNK/DRK/DRG and the PLD #1 vokes).
  • Someone who doesn't turn mobs that can potentially Cone-AoE Paralyze/Silence/[insert negative status effect] the rest of the party to death. -na spells work much more effectively on a single target than on a full party (when Divine Seal/Veil is down).
  • Someone who can't land a hit for crap. Protip: If I'm playing Dark Knight and you're playing Paladin, you best be able to hit more consistently with a sword than I do with a scythe, seeing as you already swing a lot more.
If I'm forgetting anything, please feel free to add to this list.
