What do you look for when finding a Paladin

and the coup de grace:

Meaghan: "Monk: Why are you casting cure on the mob?"

"PLD: because it increases my hate when I cast cure."

I almost lost my faith in plds that day. I also agree that alot of people just see one aspect of the game and think, 'Oh, such and such job/race can't do this' and so on. Sickens me.
LOL didnt he wonder when it said 'cure has no effect on the mob' sorry I guess some people play PLD cause it looks like a neat job and all. :)

Mind you I see just as many bad ninja's who think shields are the only ninjitsu they ever need to use.

Sure PLD's may not be the in thing this fall, but do you notice the trend whenever a new expansion drops.... two or three jobs suddenly become against the norm, which may I remind you were the coolest thing before the expansion dropped. Keep your faith bretheren PLD WILL make a comeback in WoTG. Why would SE kill off the only true job intended to tank, and based on the premise of the new expansion I feel we have something special coming our way....if not we're a dying breed! and if you expect me to play Dancer SE has just lost another account!

lol
PLD isn't dead, they're still quite commonly used in endgame to tank most monsters (I prefer them to NIN). PLD being subpar in exp is a different story, and if you expect to be both an awesome DD and a great tank, you're sorely mistaken.

These are all great posts. I was super worried when I came back, and a friend of mine told me PLDs are no longer needed or used. But I really wanted to play the game again, so I was prepared to resume taking up some of my other jobs.

It seems now, that as long as I catch up on my ToAU missions, (mainly the staging areas) I'll be okay to finally finish off PLD.

Got myself a Hauby now, since I had retained all the gil I had during the times of inflation. All the prices dropped so much, it's like I won some kind of lottery! :spiteful:

Either way, it feels good to be back. And if any of you see me around and need anything, give me a shout! (Or a /tell, either is fine)

Exactly; Dark Knights got their scythes back, Warriors got their Great Axes back, Paladins and Black Mages will get their exp roles back as well.

Just give SE a year or two to make it happen >.>

If that sword weaponskill in the WoTG trailer is any indication, PLD will be "fixed" in a few short months.

What SE would have to do to give PLD back their XP invites in merit would be to introduce new mobs that attack fast, ignore shadows, and have a really lousy attack. (Unless they decide to fix the whole PLD Def issue, that is.) Then take these theoretical mobs and make them give a crap-ton of xp when killed. So now you've got something that will tear a NIN or /NIN to pieces, but can't really do much to a PLD, and gives enough xp that people will actually WANT to party on them.

SE has said that they're looking for ways to rebalance the endgame xp environment, but we'll see.

If the mobs have really really lousy attack, people may just make do with WAR... and it's a burn party all over again....

Well, y'know, if it's a WAR/MNK in full Koenig... >.>

Woot

Just got my paladin to level 46. I know it's no where near end game but I get invites as soon as i log on (I'm a taru) as long as you let people know what your about (tanking) there should be no reason a very good player (like myself) will be lfg because you've proved to everyone that you the real deal!

Yeah you are right Neisan, I remember that party now. I even made mention of it in the flame I made about having such a crappy couple of days in game that week. But no matter what job I ever played, and there were many, I always preferred PLD to NIN in xp. Even if I was on a low hate job such as BRD I always felt PLDs held hate better therefore making the whole party that much smoother. I'm not saying NINs don't have their place in xp as tanks, but I just always liked it more when I open the party list and see XXPLD/YYWAR next to someone's name.

This actually is Meaghan but I am using my friend's account because he was already logged on and reading QCDN when I got here.

Also sorry for the 5 day mini-necro I don't have internet at home right now and I don't get to read the site as often as I used to.

thats all good in theory. it would be true if everyone knew you. but sadly they dont. i know you're good on pld cause i've partied with you before. a lot of players that dont know you may think you're a noob that braging about skills that you "think" you have.

Has anyone noticed that most of the jobs that people want more of for end-game get screwed over when people try to lvl it up passed 66-70ish?

i.e. PLD, BLM

Cannons are nice but everyone doesn't like cannons.

Solution = PLD+BLM-only endgame LSes.

Say "fuck you" in endgame to those who said "fuck you" during exp.

;-)

It's quite possible to non-cannon to 75. It's quite possible to non-cannon maintain a full buffer at 75 (hell, you can do that solo unless you deliberately die a lot and volunteer for lots of R1s). It's quite possible to non-cannon merits at 75. And we're not talking eye-gougingly slow exp rates here. No, it won't be 25k/hr, but it'll still be above 10k/hr. And time was, over 10k/hr was considered amazing. And it's not like the exp costs for merits have increased since then, so... :P

No, you probably won't be invited to a cannon as a job that's not very well suited to cannoning, that's pretty obvious logic. :P But you can be invited to all sorts of non-cannon parties, or even (horror of horror) make your *own* parties and do the inviting.

And there's always the option of meriting on another job that can rake in faster exp. Obviously, don't level a job you wouldn't enjoy in its own right, because you'll just resent the process more because of that. But if you would enjoy some cannon job, then it's not a remotely bad idea to level that job you'd enjoy anyway, and merit on *that* instead.

(In case it wasn't obvious, I have about as much patience for "waaaah, I'm not showered in cannon invites" as I do for "waaaah, people aren't organizing CoP for me without my having to lift a finger." Which is to say, zero.)

it's pretty easy to get exp outside of pts anyways

pld can solo ok i've seen pld/whm or pld/whm fight exp in CN @ around 72ish

besieged works well, there's a lv7 preparing and a lv5 as well behind it

usuallly 1490-1920ish exp a round, also the pulling the strings, and other enm.

you could even decide to get lv capped gear to help lower players through promies(1500 upon successful clear) which are ridiculously easier....

Glad to have started a dialogue on this. As I said, my only concern was when upon my return, a friend advised me that PLD's were useless. Guess it was much ado about nothing, eh?

before i quit.. many people prefer NIN over PLD. it was too expensive for me to level.. i shouldnt have went back to this site.. /sigh.. makes me wanna come back.. i looked uber, didnt i? lol
