I have a friend I'd like to help get on the game. He has a PS2. What would he need to get to play? Just the game and a hard drive or is there something else he needs?

Thanks!

The hard drive (it's preloaded with FFXI) and whatever expansions you want to play. The Netowrk Adapter is needed to connect the HDD, so you'll need that. A USB Keyboard is pretty key (sorry for the pun) if you want to communicate. Oh, and a controller that hasen't been thrown on the floor too many times.

A consideration you will need to take into account is how you will connect the PS2 to the Internet. You can run an Ethernet cable, or get a wireless bridge if you have that kinda setup. I've done it a hundred ways to tuesday, if you need any help here, lemmie know. :)

Also, a picture of me above your mantle helps make everything move a little smoother. Otherwise, it's as they said:
-FFXI - Rise of the Zilart + HDD (Comes in a big white box)
-Network Adapter
-Ethernet Cable and/or wireless adapter
-Optional: USB Keyboard, Expansions

actually controllers that get thrown on the floor/wall/people work quite well, mine sure has at least :)

it has to be one of the older ps2 systems though. the hard drive wont go into the newer smaller ones. dont know if that was mensiond already.

the hard drive can usually be found online pretty easy no so much in stores anymore though along with the expansions.

i'd tell your friend to get the Xbox360 version, 1 because trying to get everything for the PS2 wont be easy.. you'll have to go digging online for the HD which is Used or New (rare) and 2, you have to buy COP and ToaU seperate.

Xbox360 Ver is better then Ps2, but not as good as PC.. so its somewhere in the middle, the Resolution (w/ Vga Adapter or HD) can go over 1024x768.

if you get it for the PS2 or X360 it will be pricey, none the less

Because PS2 no longer supports the Hard Drive, trying to find it w/ expansion
sets in stores will be kinda hard

PS2 HD w/ FFXI = $100
PS2 = $150 (average price for a old ver ps2 w/ bay slot)
Network Adapter = $40-50
PS2 COP= $30
PS2 Toau= $50 ( its about that still)

X360 w/ Hd =$399 (or you can buy the one without the Hard drive, and search on ebay for a cheap one)
X360 w/ FFXI and all Exp =$30
Optional - X360 Wireless $100
Optional - X360 VGA or HD Video Adapter $40

welp .. thats my 2cents

All the info of things needed is here: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/envi/ps/ps01.html?pageID=ps

When I first started this game about a year and 3 months ago, PS2 was the first I played and got the game for. Luckily I got the last copy which was $100 for my ps2, with the HDD too. Then I had to buy some stuff separate. I already owned a Ps2 which is why I got the game for Ps2.

All together I spent $200-$300 or so just to get it going for PS2. PC is much cheaper if you have a good enough computer to play on. I bought a copy for PC too, and it was only $40 with the game and all the expansion excluding ToAU.
