I'm in a Japanese LS and we use the word Translator function to communicate NA to JP. So i Google search engine to see if i can find some online content about my LS HNMPT.

Check this out...

Now i find this site i don't know the name of (i'll find out later), i have google translate the site, and sure enough i'm seeing familar names in HNMPT and JeanneDaArc, and some random JP member names i know of

Still early in exploration, and at this point of time i have reconized 2 NA names Dellionhart and Miisha.

The Google translator is kinda poor so reading the content was tough to understand.

I came accross a part at the bottom of a page that was not translated. It's about Serise. Here it is.

So i copy and paste it into the "Altavista Translator site" and i get this...

Name: The mother contribution day of Serise: 2006/01/03 (fire) 10:16:09 [ c1ZlkUhM ] The son inside cannot do either greeting, it is possible and with the bad child these 2 years either junior high school without going, the pulling basket having, are worry with only the game. Is hard on is probably cause what after all in the school?

To me it sounds as though there is concern for the RL boy we know as Serise. I do not know who wrote this, but to me it sounds like someone is saying.

- He does not greet anyone
- These past 2 years he did not attend jr. high school
- He only worries about his game.
- What will happen after school

That is what i "think" it may mean.

I wouldn't want to see Serise or anyone get damned from playing FFXI. My brother checks out Serise's LS every blue moon when he logs in, and has an understanding that Serise is bound to serving his LS to a point where everyone must have their peice of super armor and rare drops. I know Serise is fully equiped with rare/ex items, and the rest are working on it. For him to leave behind his LS might pressure him into guilt.

To me it seems as though it would take his own LS to express their concern for his real life future. Who in FFXI can Serise rely on to tell him to go handly real life ?

Anyway.... What do you think this means ?

That's awful if he's been skipping school to play FFXI. Looks like someone needs to set some priorities for the young man. Where are his parents?

Well i recall once hearing that in japan children have their say and rights, and it is their choice from a young age weather or not they attend school.

I don't agree with this.

And I don't agree, because I've heard that Japanese students are pressured to do better in school then we are here in America (and to be honest I've heard it's like this in most of the world. So, yes, American schooled children are LESS pressured then the rest of the world.) If I'm wrong on my () then please let me know.

But, I would definitely assume that Japanese children are MORE pressured to do well in school.. I remember reading it somewhere, wish I had the article to prove it. Maybe someone else could help me out?

I've heard that too. It's the same in China, I think it's like that in most Asian countries actually.

gotta love stupid people
hey hey, lets throw our lives away for a video game!!! w00t w00t

Well... they may have a choice in the matter. However, it usually always comes down the point of disrespect in those countries.

In America, things are so twisted that our parents become burdens and speakers of sacrilege. I am so grateful my parents would knock my ass out if I so much as told them to shut up. It really does teach you a lot of lessons.

In Japan, teachers are the most respected people, only topped by like the most high government officials. Education is placed on a pedestal (gotta love 40 year old version allusions). If he hasn't gone to school... his family is probably disgraced (maybe not that harsh, but I dunno too incredibly much about it myself).

Japanese students, and not just children, are under enormous pressure to perform better and score higher at their studies....it's partly why Japan has such a high suicide rate among young men.

i am just a linguistics student, so my translation could be a little bit off. but at least it is better than your altavista translation lol. the parenthesis in the translation are my comments. i romanized it so if anybody knows spoken language but not written they can take a stab at it too.

uchi no osuko wa aisatsu mo dekinai shattai no waso i i de . .

kono 2 toshi wa chaa gatsukou mo kou kazuni ina ??? motte wa geemu bakari de shin hai.

yappari gatsukoo de ijime rarete ni no ga gen in nan deshou ka.

translation:
Their son has not been fulfilling "aisatsu" so he is a bad person (kinda like he has not been fulfilling his regular family obligations). For 2 years, he has not been going to school and he has been putting most of his heart into games (i don't know one of the kanji in this sentence, it could change the meaning entirely). Also, this could have been a compulsive act because he was getting bullied at school, do you guys agree?

I'm not entirely sure of the validity of this, as I only heard it from one of my teachers at school. It sounds like at some early age Japanes kids are tested and if they have promise, they're put in school and pressured to do well. They don't waste time on the lesser kids and probably don't pay much attention to them, which would explain why this guy can spend so much time in the game.

I should have been kicked out of high school for skipping out so much, apparently I was in the top 10 of total missed classes. Good thing my vice principal was a cool guy and let me stay for a third semester to get the points I needed.

I can't imagine how much MORE I would have skipped, had this game been around at the time.

Anyone see the irony in that statement? :bb:

Actually after reading this link the Rones posted in another thread it seems that you can't fail at school no matter what you do or conversly, don't do in Japanese schools until high school. This link is of an American teaching English in Japan under the JET Program.

This is hilarious to me really.

Serise is a teenage man(or boy) that skips school and embarasses his family and friends because of his addiction to his game(FFXI). He constantly thinks and worries about it, almost always playing it. His family is worried about him but he doesn't seem to care. He's made fun of in public because of his lack of social ability outside of FFXI.

You can't be the kind of guy he is without some kind of problem.

Until high school theres no enforcement of a child's attendance in school. If he wants to skip and become a street punk he can. The pressure to do well and succeed is in late highschool for the college entrance exams. Once youre in college you dont leave until you get a degree. Children are guaranteed schooling as well, so it becomes impossible to punish them for missing classes.

lol... totally agree.

I don't think Serise is in any trouble with school, last I talked to Jsoft about Serise I was told that Serise isn't online much because he is going to school and school in Japan is a lot more gruelsome then NA which is why he has little time to be online.

This was about a month ago.

I wish my parents paid for my FFXI. :( Damn real life work getting in my way. :x
