What exactly keeps you on this game?

How about a friends AND Linkshell AND game content? Or how about an all of the above? <_<;

I continue playing this game because there is still a lot of quests and items I have yet to obtain, and compared to a lot of players who have been in this game since the beginning, I still have a mountain of things to accomplish so that'll keep me playing for quite some time.

The other thing is the friends i've met in this game. Unlike other games i've heard of and observed, FFXI allows people to really interact with other players more frequently and when you make friends, you get to know them more than just another character in the game. I've met a lot of people who have come and gone, and some who have stayed and some people have made lasting impressions who's friendships I won't ever be able to forget. Its fun playing this game to progress, but its even funner when you're doing it with others to share the experience with.

And then the linkshells. I like being able to commit my time to helping others get some fun out of this game and seeing them progress, and running the linkshell that I do with my bf gives me that opportunity to feel like my time spent in the game is worth something. As long as my LS still has members, I don't think I can ever leave them, gotta watch out for them and keep them company

Option I would have chose is missing from the list. I would say I play FFXI mostly because there is rarely anything fun to do off the PC with others that doesn't put a nice sized dent in your wallet.
