I'm coming back with my level 75 summoner. I left FFXI before Fenrir was even released.

Should I be concentrating on getting to 90 as fast as possible, or should I be collecting gear/avatars, and completing missions/content/atmas that was released after my leaving the game?

I have 200+ beastmen seals 50+ kindred seals and zero merits. From what I understand I can convert the seals I have into the seals I need for level limit break quests and earning merits will be fast.

Any help provided would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Due to the timed nature of all Abyssea content, it is highly recommended to complete the following simple first step as soon as possible following the registration of the appropriate expansions.

1. Travel to Port Jeuno for the first quest A Journey Begins. Talk to Joachim in Port Jeuno (H-8). Following a cutscene, Joachim will give you a Traverser Stone. At this point, Joachim will start producing more Traverser Stones for you, but in order to actually receive any more, you must first complete the quest The Truth Beckons by entering Abyssea.
2. Head to one of the Cavernous Maws located at:
3. Examine it for a cutscene, and examine it again to enter Abyssea. (You must be on a job with a level of 30 or higher to enter Abyssea.)

  • It is not necessary to do anything once inside Abyssea to complete The Truth Beckons. However, you may wish to exchange your first Traverser Stone for 30 minutes of Visitant status before leaving. (Unused Visitant time up to 120 minutes is preserved for your next visit to any Abyssea area.)

Once you start building traverser stones, you should wait a few days before trying abyssea to let them accumulate. So you can go and get your summons, get re acquainted with the game, ect. it makes it easier on you later on. When going into abyssea, always talk to the Conflux Surveyor NPCS after entering abyssea to confirm your time. They are usually a few feet from the entrance. If you don't talk to them after zoning in you'll get kicked out after 5 minutes, you will be locked out of abyssea for an hour.

New Level quests: New worlds await

as a level 75 entering abyssea, take silent oils and prism powders or have someone go with you because you'll have to walk everywhere for awhile until you build up some abyssea currency called cruor. they have teleport crystals called vertical conflux. each zone has 8 of them. Get as many as you can once you have cruor. I recommend maxing out your merit points. you need to spend them for level cap quests. ask permission to lot the kindreds crests I think you need 15 total go for 20 if you can.

Since you have not played for awhile, do look into treasures of aht urhan expansion so you can get Odin and Alexander summons, as a summoner in abyssea, it would be beneficial to you to have them.

The current Vanadiel Collection for 2011 is about $10 to direct download from Amazon, and includes EVERY expansion currently released, as well as a very handy bonus item for lowbie leveling. Definitely worth the money if you haven't been staying current with FFXI.

Other than that, pretty much what Misi said.

Thanks for the reply!

I purchased the Ultimate collection via steam, and did the intro into abyessa.

Are silent Oils and Prism powders better than the white Mage invise/silence buffs? I have a supply for when I wasnt /WHM, just curious if its better.

I will look into the new avatars.

Thanks again for all the help!

No problem! You can use /whm but some monsters will aggro magic casting. they did change the duration that sneak and invis stay on, but for walking long distances it doesn't hurt to take oils and powders with you. Some NMs stay in a cluster of normal monsters too, so tab around occasionally so you can stay clear of them.
