Canandaigua, N.Y. - Thomas Kane, 17, a student at Canandaigua Academy committed suicide just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The Academy went into lockdown after the first reports of a suicide involving a gun.
The high school senior shot himself with a modified shotgun
Two students discovered the body in the men's bathroom of the school's athletic wing. Authorities said they don't think anyone else was in the bathroom at the time. They said they are concerned about the two who found the body.
Police are unsure whether the gun was already at the school or brought by the student.
Thomas Kane left no note.
According to a press conference, Kane used a modified shotgun and had 30 rounds of ammunition on him and in his locker.
Two Molotov cocktails were also found in his locker.
Police interviewed his friends and other students in an effort to make sure no one else was involved.
Superintendent Raw said to his knowledge the student did not attempt to harm anyone else. Officials said he had emotional issues.
Before these details were known, officials searched lockers, patted down students and searched different areas of the school and grounds. tudents had their cars impounded and weren't able to drive home. They were bussed to the Middle School and then later were taken home on the bus.
Superintendent Raw said he is not sure whether they will have a "normal" school day Wednesday.
