So i get this party the other day in king ranperre's tomb..

The BLM in my party, has decent equipment it seems... Sapient Cape, 2 astral rings, and the elemental torque... thats about 3million in gear right there. The thing is, he/she has only 1 elemental staff, the ice staff... try bursting firaga III with an ice staff on IT mobs w/ that and see how it goes.

The blm subs SMN -- 72BLM/34SMN

The blm is level 72 and doesn't have escape..

Has no idea what good casting Shock does for a PT that is relying on magic dmg.

I give the BLM my fire staff to use considering their damage was much more important then mine, and they use it 1 of 4 burst attempts

They ask me... "What does this staff do? Make my magic hit harder?"

Of all the SC's we did, i think he/she hit 3 maybe 4 MB's... i say "is it really that hard to mb".... "Yes."

So my question is...do you all experience level 70+ BLM's who don't know their own spells, can afford 3million gil equipment and have never used an elemental staff, can't magic burst, and doesnt have a critical lv29 spell?

www.ige.com -- go buy an account that has a job a little easier than BLM... o wait, thats about as easy as it gets (no offense to blm)

or maybe a gil seller

/end rant

Hard to Magic burst??? I think not my good Sir. Only time I miss a magic burst is when Onions breaks out the subligar!!!

The subjob and magic bursting is questionable... I wouldn't flame a BLM for using ice staff for all nukes though. The guy has 3 million in gear admittedly, having all the staves isn't the most important thing... especially if he has ice, the most important by far.

Why would any blm have astrals before the other staffs? Any mage 51+ without a dark staff is inexcusable given the going price these. I haven't ran into any blms that bad 70+ gladly. Hats of to Hawke last night and his consistent 1500+ mbs. :D

>,> shock is resist vs white magic... shock doesn't really help a pt that relies on blm damage... burn though....
you've obviously encountered a freak, gilseller or account buyer...

..... and i think that might be generously over 3m

Ew

Blackchaoshero said it mostly but yeah he sounds like an account buyer for sure and that sickens me. Did you get your Fire Staff back even? heh

i would disagree to an extent, because having all staves > having sapient cape... you can buy all the staves which are much more important than having a -enmity cape. (while thats still good, wont nearly be as effective anyway)

well yea nyett is a bum BLM too but it wasn't him 8) hehe nah

wasn't gonna put name out there, but Foxgloves, grrr

Wasn't foxgloves part of that gilseller Dragoon team that used to farm Del Tower?

o and the thing about shock, school me please, i bought my account as 70RDM and dont know shit neither lol

i always thought shock lessend the MND, which in turn lowered the magic resistance... burn lowers INT, which i didn't know effected black magic.. hows it go?

I Magic Burst with my fucking thief for my Whopping 2 Damage Ninjitsu.. Damn some people are just lame...

<3 Teh Magic Burst.

Several Theories on it Galix.

The predominant one seems to be that using shock to lower MND helps with enfeeble resistance. Also some theorize that it is a factor in elemental spell resistance.

Most seem to think that there is a calculation that takes place that takes into consideration the difference in your Int vrs the Mobs Int when determining Dmg and/or resists. So burn is used to lower Int.

Foxgloves . . . doesn't surprise me, heh. Wasn't s/he the BLM that was xping in Valley of Sorrows still wearing full RSE, nothing else? Apparently s/he finally bought some gil, too bad you can't buy a clue.

oo i think i've heard that theory before alanon, that makes some sense. you can only have either shock or burn on at one time correct?

No. You can have up to 3. They kind of work like Bio>Dia in that one can cancel another out. Each of the spells has a corresponding element to it. Say you cast Burn (fire based) it will cancel Frost (Ice based), while Drown (Water) will cancel Burn, etc, etc.

Normally there are two "sets" I use that are adaptable depending on the situation. If the melee are missing alot, I cast Frost (lowers AGI) Drown (Lowers STR) and Rasp (Lowers DEX).

If the melee are doing fine, but Im having trouble, Ill do Burn, Choke, and Shock.

Sometimes Ill combo a couple and just do Frost and Shock. Its all very situational.

You can have shock and burn both on at same time

Actually, I think foxgloves was the only fox-whatever that wasn't a gil seller.

Foxygrandpa was a non gil seller, same with Direfox my mule.
