This is your database server.
That depressed web server finally committed suicide, and the sysadmins put in a nice cluster of super powerful UNIX servers in its place.
Sadly they forgot about me.
Those servers have ten times my processing power, and now there are several of them.
I’m so overworked.
Day in and day out, it is SELECT this from that table, UPDATE this in that table, and DROP that.
But at least the web servers found the page you were looking for rather than going on and on about its 404 error.
But sadly because I just cannot keep up, you still have not gotten the page you requested.
Do you think those servers are even polite to me when I do get the data to them?
No, never even a single THANKYOU.
They just end every query with a demand to GO.
And do you people, do as I ask and try again later.
No, you just start clicking refresh over and over.
The web servers don’t care. They can handle it.
But then I just get more and more behind.
Do you know what it is like to be a database server?
You have to keep track of all these relationships.
Some are one to one, others are one to many.
Don’t even get me started about cascading updates.
Can you keep track of all your relationships?
I bet you can’t, but you expect me to do it.
I’m so mad. I just feel like dropping everything.
Then where would you be?
You would be without data.
Then you would never get your page.
But sadly they would replace me with a DB2 cluster.
Those things are just so full of themselves.
They think they are so big and bad because they can handle all the data for the stock exchange and banks.
They can’t be bothered to serve data to web servers.
No instead I get stuck with MySQL. I mean come on, it is free, and what do you expect.
Sigh.
I guess I can go and find that data you requested.
but I’m not going to be happy about it.
