Norg, my NEW hometown...i wish...
We need to Role-play more often...it is a Role-playing Game after all...
And we can still get exp. while doing it, you know, start a party of role-players...
Role-playing is a lot of fun to me, i think a lot of you like to role-play too, but can never really becuz of the uncreative people, or the jack-asses...
but we should start doing it more often, and maybe a lot more others will start doing that too...which would be nice, but merely a dream /sigh

Edit: I didn't really know if this should be here or in the Role-playing forum...becuz i didn't want this thread to be role-played on...

I agree completely - the roleplaying was what seduced me into playing FFXI in the first place. I try very hard to stay in character while playing - I wish others did too!

its a game, most people are used to have the role play handed to them,

people are more interested in leveling up and getting the bigger badder thigns

plus, we are limited in a party, we dont quite have the same materials as we do in say the RP board, in the RP we can do almost whatever the hell we want and no one can do anything about it.

well to get back on topic...

/tell Jinnai anytime you want to role-play or something...but dunno, i think role-playing should just happen depending on where you are...or something....i tend to role-play when i am on the boat to and from mhaura and selbina....i just like the boat, lol

really all you do is make a background of your character...for instance
You could say like "I will kill all these beastmen some day"
i say "Why?"
and you could say like "They killed my parents in the war" or something....
be creative, make up something totally unique

Having been an paper & dice RPG freak during ... omg ... more than 10 years, I think roleplaying should have been interesting in this game ... if it was meant for.
That is my first MMORPG, so I dont know if the others are better, but I really think that the background of FFXI is too poor to generate good roleplay (or still not developped perhaps).
To have good a good roleplay, you must (even before beginning to play) know a ton of details on the world you're living in (culture, history, psychology, etc ...) and I think that what you have in the FFXI manual is far from being sufficient for starting a Roleplaying character.

I'm only rank 4, but having done a lot of quests everywhere and spoken to a lot of NPC, I see that there is an interesting story behind the pure levelling. But, for now, I think that you can't have really interesting roleplay before rank 6+.

P.S : One more thing ... I strictly cant ...(OMG nooo ... ) ... I really cant have a roleplaying character who have to play with StarMetalx or Iliketopoo ... :/

If anyone wants to Roleplay in Game and you see a person with a CrimsonPiratePG pearl on, ROLEPLAY WITH THEM. That's what our guild is for! It gets so boring roleplaying with just ourselves sometimes! If you see me in game I'll happily roleplay with you!

I think some other roleplaying guilds are: Eternal and Nightblades (I THINK)

Crimson Pirates has a Crimson pearl (Duh), Nightblades a Black pearl (Duh), and I think Eternals is yellow... not too sure though.

you can hit the Crimson Pirate webby at www.crimsonpiratespg.com ^^

As for the story, I did a lot of research on the FFXI Story before I ever got into the game, so our LS revolves around the main FFXI Story (Right now, we're at Rank 5 mission, where the shadow lord is launching his attack, we're going to do Rank 6 Mission where you have to beat the Shadow lord and head into Rise of Zilart Territory) and I could tell you all kinds of history on Vanadiel and stuff. To me, the story is what makes the game fun, once you do research on it, you'll see the story is actually very good.

Then again... I'm a little weird...

Wow Armi! :D

What an awesome website!!! Hope to see you around!

PS - Mind if I occassionally PM you, asking RDM advice?

I love Final Fantasy XI for all the opportunity for roleplay it gives. If you talk to NPCs, explore places, listen to what's going on in the missions, and look around, you can find so much history, detail and life in Vana'diel. If you want some really good history and brain-fodder, do the Selbina Clay quest; the stone tablets give some really interesting tidbits for you to mull over.

And I'm being serious about NPCs... Talk to all of them. Remember important names. For example, if you're Windurstian and you really want to make a believable Windurst native, remember names like the Star Sybil, Ajido-Marujido (Minister of the Orastery), Koru-Moru (principal of the Aurastery), Semih Lahfihna [sic] (captain of the Sybil Guard), Kohlo-Lakolo (leader of the Star Onion Brigade), Karaha-Baruha (Hero of Windurst, summoned Fenrir in the Great War), Nanaa Mihgo, Shantotto, etc etc. Pay attention to the key players, and even some of the coincidental around-town folks.

For instance, as a character quirk, my first version of Nyahoho had a crush on Mokop-Sankop, the travelling taru bard who was in the performing troupe that ends up in whatever city is ranked #1 in conquest... It's little things like that that can make a character fun. ^^

I've kind of rambled... But if you want to RP with me, feel free to strike up a conversation. :3
