I know i'm going to get a ps3, but i don't know if i should get the $500 one now or wait for the $600 80G. I'll buy the 60G now if the only difference is the 20G, but i also hear that the 80G will not have the ps2 chip for backwards compatibility and that it's taken care of through software emulation instead. Is that true? And will it matter on the quality of the ps2 games if it's played through a chip or through software?

500 dollar 60 gig.. 20 gig more isn't really needed.. and if it is just buy a cheaper bigger HD and install it yourself

and yes, it and the newer 60gig (if they are making more of those) aren't going to have the chips but emulation for the PS2. I doubt there'll be any big difference in quality.

Get the $500 model. If you really want motorstorm, you can pick that up separately and you'll still save money. In terms of bang for your buck, the $600 is horrible compared to the $500 model.

As for backwards compatibility goes, the PS3 has been using full software emulation since the snafu with the sound in early firmware. The removal of the chip is a formality to lower production cost, and it's like your appendix, once it was useful but now it's just added flesh. EU hasn't had the chip, I don't think, after the serious issues with that region and their ps3's are just fine.

Ok, good that is what i wanted to hear. I guess i'll be getting the $500 model. Oh and is there anyway to transfer data from my ps2 hard drive to the ps3's hard drive? Thanks for the information.

You have to get a memory card adapter to transfer info from PS2 to PS3, if you mean you have PS2 harddrive with stuff on that.. *shrugs* I dunno, never bothered learning

you can save what you need to from the hdd on to a memory card then transfer it with the 30 dollar adaptor. works well.
