What would you do?

Kids cry for lots of reasons, not always because they're spoiled brats or because they have bad parents. Sometimes they're just hungry. Or tired. All I have to say is, if I had a child and someone did that to them, I'd have been arrested because I'd have been beating the shit out of them. You've got something wrong with you if you think you have the right to lay your hands on someone else's kids.

This! And That!! lol, I'd have some swollen bloody knuckles let me tell you.

I have no qualms with parents laying the beat down. That is within their right, they use their judgment and ffs it's their child, they can choose to raise that child however they want, within reason of course.

I have also had the urge before Mire, and same here I would never EVER act on it.

Seriously, old school or not give me a fucking break!!

I'm a bit old school in my opinions about slappin kids but not OTHER peoples children. Ludicrous!

How many of you would actually smack your child on the butt, or on the hand, or even on the mouth (if they back-talked you) in public? I'm not talking...knock their teeth down their throat (downright wrong), I'm talking a quick smack to remind who is actually in charge.

I most certainly wouldn't give it a second thought.

Nip it in the butt.

I know this may sound weird but, when training your dog to go outside rather than on the living room floor, you smack it on the nose/butt or where ever WHEN you catch it happening. You cannot correct the behavior after the fact. Or you risk confusing the animal as it doesn't know an hour later why you're pissed at it or being 'cruel', because at that point it would just be cruel. You know?

I think this way much with kids.

I used to get embarrassed if I got a smack in the mall for throwing a temper tantrum, but I deserved it. Not-to-mention I was probably no more embarrassed than my mother or father was due to my acting out.

I'm just soo glad I have a man who is completely on board with my way of thinking when it comes to discipline. He was lucky though, he was a good kid, well more than me according to his mother as he only ever got slapped once.

Thinking back I probably got a good smack 2x a month until about 9 or so. >.> I'm stubborn, but most of you know that lol

People putting their hands on other peoples children is just inexcusable. Sadly this case is not as bad as others I've seen lately... Some of them are even unprovoked.

Don't read if you're sensitive.

Spoiler:
WINNIPEG — Winnipeg police are “scratching their heads” over why a 19-year-old women allegedly abducted a baby girl from a house party and brutally beat the child’s head against a city sidewalk.

Nikita Solange Eaglestick was charged Wednesday with attempted murder, abduction and aggravated assault while the 14-month-old baby continued to recover in hospital.

Const. Jason Michalyshen said police still don’t understand why the little girl, identified by family as Vanessa, was attacked.

“That is something that we’re all kind of scratching our heads right now to try and figure out,” he said.

“Our investigators spent the majority of (Tuesday) interviewing witnesses, individuals that may possess valuable information with regards to the investigation. We’re going to be continuing with that investigation by interviewing individuals that may help us find out some of those answers.”

“As far as a motive or a reason as to why this child was attacked in the manner that she was, is something that we need to figure out yet.”

Police say the mother was at a house party in the area and her baby daughter was asleep. People were drinking and, at some point, the baby was taken from the party.

“Once removed, the serious assault occurred,” Michalyshen said.

Police didn’t get any calls about a missing baby and were only notified when a witness saw a woman banging a child’s head into the sidewalk. The suspect was arrested a few blocks away.

There is no relationship between the alleged assailant, who recently lived in northern Manitoba, and the girl’s mother, making the incident even more baffling, Michalyshen said.

“This impacts everybody negatively,” he said. “We certainly want to get to the root of the issue as to why this individual was involved in this type of an assault.”

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority said it couldn’t comment on the baby’s condition “given the circumstances.” Michalyshen said the child’s condition has been upgraded from critical to stable.

“Right now the child is still in hospital recovering from serious injuries, upper body injuries,” he said. “The child is in stable condition, on the road to recovery. As far as future, long-term injuries, that’s not something I can speculate.”

Police are now working with Child and Family Services to “make sure that all children involved either directly or indirectly are cared for in a proper manner,” Michalyshen said.

The witness, 18-year-old Tyler Bilsborrow, has been called a hero for interrupting the attack.

Bilsborrow stepped outside his family’s home to smoke in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday, when he heard screaming nearby.

He walked around the corner to see a woman sitting on the pavement, holding the baby by the neck and slamming the child’s head down.

When he approached, he said the woman abandoned the child and ran away.

“It was completely covered in blood. It looked pretty bad. The nose looked like it was broken, all swollen. (The baby) could barely open it eyes. From head to toe, just covered in blood,” Bilsborrow said Tuesday.

The child was wearing only a T-shirt and a diaper, he said.

Vanessa’s grandmother has said the child’s mother, Daisy Houle, is devastated.

Some people are just deranged.

Should the mother of smacked the child? Maybe. She could of at least made an effort to shut it up though.

Should the man of hit the child? No. He should of gone somewhere else and minded his own fucking business.

Once they can speak their minds and express how they feel, I think crying has to stop except in certain circumstances. Otherwise you end up with 10 year old who whine and cry. I'd say at around 5, they shouldn't be crying anymore and by 4 you really need to stop rewarding crying and start rewarding verbalizing their feelings.

And that guy wouldn't have gotten the chance to hit my kid because I would have been there and stopped him the moment he said something to me about it. Maybe I'm a single parent, maybe I worked all day and picked my kid up from daycare and had to get some groceries before the store closed. This guy doesn't know what's up. He doesn't know if the kid is feeling sick, if they're scared, confused, tired, teething or what. Should I leave the kid in the car to appease this asshole and endanger the kid and myself? Fuck him, he should know better.

I have already posted this in another thread, but I figure I'd post again.

Richard Anthony McTear Jr., 21, was arrested Tuesday morning, hours after police say he tossed the infant boy onto Interstate 275, according to Hillsborough County authorities.

Police say he got into a fight with the baby's 17-year-old mother and attacked both of them.

He then fled with the child in his blue Chevrolet Impala.

The baby, Emanuel Wesley Murray, was found dead near the interstate about 4 a.m. just as police were preparing to issue an Amber Alert, FOX affiliate WTVT reported.

The tragedy occurred after police responded to a domestic violence call in the Mirabella Apartments in Tampa about 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, the station said.

The teenage mother told deputies her boyfriend beat her, threw her infant son down on the concrete and then fled with the baby, according to WTVT.

Arrest records show McTear has a lengthy criminal history that includes several battery and assault charges, including domestic battery by strangulation and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He is a fugitive on a 2008 felony battery charge in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Department of Corrections Web site.

Given, there weren't any deaths involved, but this is just sad on how our way of living is becoming. [In reference to the OP story]

As a parent I can tell you that time outs only work to a certain age. The article does not say if the mother tried to calm the child or why she was. Infact it seems the child SCREAMED when this man hit her. I have traveled on planes for over 9 hours with 3 kids. When I got off people who remark about how well behaved my children were. They expected screaming kids. I have spent 30 hours awake because my 11 month old can not sleep well and has been <omg> crying. My 3 year old will try to whine and gets told "you are not allowed to behave like this ." Most behavioral correctings <spankings> would be dealt with out of public eye. After all people think disicplining your child is abuse. Might be why so many are druggies and lazy slugs. Still even when they are out and start up, I will not make a big scene about them. That can actually make it worse as you are giving the chiold the reaction they wanted. Sometimes you have to show them no matter how loud they get it will not get them what they want. Personally the mother should have beat the living shit out of that man.

^ That's a good momma.

When if your child acted up enough, you could just kill it (with fire).

We're not in Ancient Greece either, where if your child was born deformed, it was dropped off a cliff.

I am a proponent of spanking kids versus the "too many chances or you're gonna get a timeout, mister!", and it seems there are many of you here who feel the same way, but I gotta ask:

How many of you would actually smack your child on the butt, or on the hand, or even on the mouth (if they back-talked you) in public? I'm not talking...knock their teeth down their throat (downright wrong), I'm talking a quick smack to remind who is actually in charge.

Being a parent with a child about to turn 2, I would smack my child in public if they misbehaved. My main reason for doing so is the sheer misconduct, if left unchecked, will only cause it to escalate. Kids are smart, they will test the limits of how far they can go, and if you give the child an inch in public, they will take a mile.

Best example I can think of is when my younger sister threatened to call the police on my parents because they spanked her for throwing a temper tantrum (she was 8 at the time), my dad just up and said "Do it, hell, here's the phone, call them." My sister was so shocked because her friends had done it, and gotten away with shit, only for my dad to turn the tables on her.

Laying you hand on another person's kid IS out of line though, as much as the kid deserves it, unless the kid is throwing a temper tantrum, its really not their fault theyre acting like that. Had this man come near my daughter and laid a hand on her, I'd probably be in jail for beating the man half to death as well.

Well, I've had the urge to do the same thing to a screaming child when the parent wont try to shut it up, but I'd never actually do it... It's not the kid, it's usually the parent. Try slapping the mother next time, slapping a kid wont stop it from crying.

I'm with you, slap the mother not the kiddo. Kids aren't -usually- bad by nature, somethin' made them that way.

IDK I was always of the school of thought that kids are pretty spoiled in this country. Time outs? "Go to your room"? Please. If you think a smack upside the head or washing your kids mouth out with soap or *gasp* a spanking is harsh or over the line, go ask your local Haitian/Dominican/Jamaican how they were raised and what happened when they screwed up. I bet you $20 that whatever your hear from their mouths will make you re-think the "i dont spank my kids because its cruel" garbage.

Seriously, more parents need to read this

I don't recall any post on here saying that the person would not spank their child because they consider it cruel. I see many on the contrary.

None of us are questioning the discipline of children. We are discussing the discipline of children by complete strangers who have no idea why the child is crying.

I agree, if you're going to slap anyone, its the mom. The two year old isn't going to understand what's going on when some random person she's never met just comes up to her and starts slapping her. Nor will it make any sort of long-term impact on the little girl. That guy looks fucking creepy anyway.

Kids cry for lots of reasons, not always because they're spoiled brats or because they have bad parents. Sometimes they're just hungry. Or tired. I do fight the urge to say something to a parent when they've been letting a kid scream up and down the aisles for twenty minutes, but going up and putting your hands on another person's child is way WAY over the top.
Its one thing for me to spank my nephew while I'm baby sitting him. Its entirely different for an adult to smack a child they don't know. I'm with you, I would have beat the shit out of him, too, even if I was just a random person in the aisle who had overheard the situation.

I don't understand how he was able to slap the girl "several times"; speaking as the mom, if he had managed to get close enough to her to slap her, he sure the hell wouldn't have been able to do it more than once before I Waterboy-tackled his ass and started beating the shit out of him.

Something i've wanted to do many many MANY times, but its still a line i wouldn't cross. The old man is apart of a different generation though where people did slap kids around for being brats. Good for him. More people need to hit their kids these days.
Screaming kids piss me the fuck off, too. But not at the kid, at the parent. (Well, most of the time not at the kid; it depends on how old they are.)

But not good for him. The only thing this accomplishes is to get him in some legal trouble. The little girl didn't learn anything from it other than that guy is scary, and I'm sure the mother has completely victimized herself in the situation, as unjustified as that probably is.

All 5 of my kids have received spankings, even the two year old. They have also all been in time out. The punishment needs to suit the crime IMO.

I haven't spanked or slapped any of them in public, not because I'm afraid of what people will think, but because I think its none of their damned business. And I'm trying to stop you from making a scene in public. Its been my experienced that - when kids get smacked - they're generally not real quiet afterward. Its supposed to hurt.

My kids are all very well behaved in public, none of them have ever acted out more than once or twice. Each time, they were immediately removed from the situation and punished appropriately, whether that was a spanking or early bedtime or they didn't get the candy/toy/ride they were whining about in the first place.

Fuck with me, fine, I can take it. Fuck with my family and I'll put you on, or in, the ground.
Exactly.
