I had this discussion with another friend of mine named Heishiro.
We were talking about how our FFXI names originated......is it a name u use often? did you choose a name to match one of the jobs you were planning on playing b4 u got the game? Did you just make something up outta the blue? etc etc....

Well, the name I originally wanted was Bahamut, since i LOVE dragons (Bahamut = King of Dragons.....in my case i'd change that to Queen ^_~) And i really really wanted to be a high lvl Dragoon......but alas that name was taken!! :(
So then i decided to stick with game related names, and for some reason Kitana from Mortal Kombat came to mind......and now my main job is WHM.........hehe

Sooooooooo whats the story behind your names??!

Final Fantasy 2. (or Final Fantasy IV for th picky people...hehe). I still think it's FInal Fantasy 2.

Anyways, of the twins Palom and Porom. I wanted to be a blm and also loved the twins. So sad when they died. So I guess I follow a final fantasy theme...

I'm good friends in RL with Palum_Q so we thought it would be cool to be the twins from FFVI. We both had hume characters orignally and while he had no prob makin the switch from Hume to Tarutaru, I had grown attached to my Macros (Raymond E. Feist books)....so for a while there it was just Palum looking for his long lost twin hehe. I finally decided that i should give it a try and I haven't really looked back since. I love Porum and I'm kinda glad i got stuck with the female twin as i get to wear the Wedding armour :D Anyways, thats my story...

Yays a subject I have something to say about.

Ecks is a character name I made up.. *thinks back* .. i believe it was durring the summer before my 9th grade year. *Figuring out the years now* That would have been the summer of 1996. Me and a friend of mine were playing some ghetto D&D, I say ghetto because we didnt really know how to play and were basically just goofing off outside. When it came time to think of a character I decided I would be a hobit, and named my character Ecks Hobit and I was gonna be a ninja. I liked ninja's at the time, and a cool ninja name to me would be X but since hobits were fantasy creatures I decided to spell out the sound of the letter X. (Yeah, that was genius. :P) I also played a lot of Mega Man X, loved X in that game and the next 3 that eventually followed. (everything after 4 was trash)

In 9th grade I found a group of people that really played D&D durring the lunch period we had. Still used the idea of my Ecks Hobit ninja guy, but this time changed his race to be a Spriggan Gnome thanks to the D&D monster manual. The guys i played with were cool enough to allow me to be that.

To futher elaborate how the name Ecks came about, some time before this durring the previous school year I was doing some homework and got bored. I started taking the letters of the alphabet and spelling out the sound of each letter. B - bee, I - eye, J - jay, X - ecks, etc. etc.

A few years later durring 11th grade a friend I had got me into mudding, playing MUD's (multi user dungeons). I started playing a new MUD called Ancient Realms, after about a few weeks lots of people started playing it and then they started pking like crazy.. and it never stopped. I hated it, so I stopped playing and entered the mix of ... AOL chatrooms and did some rather extra ciricular RP and joined a wacked out group of people who did this kind of RP/cyber crap.

At the time i had fun doing it, and it did allow me to learn how to RP better because some of the people I rp'd with were, believe it or not, pretty good. lol Anywho thats old news, but I had been using the name Ecks the whole time there and eventually changed his last name to Kusinagi (may be misspelled but it was from watching Blue Seed at the time).

After I quit that I got back into mudding and this time found quite a few nice RP muds that had some Pk in them. Durring this time i developed my rp skills a lot and changed Ecks's last name again to Grimoirath, which I still used to this day because i love the sound of it and it feels right. I played rp muds all durring my 12th grade year (99-00) it was basically like how i am with FFXI now, on whenever i wasnt doing anything else. I only actually played a total of 2 really good muds that both unfortunately went to crap because of a few really stupid players. *sigh*

The Ecks I created on the first mud was a high elf necromancer and I started writting stories about him, short stories but stories none the less. I still have them too. :D And I posted them on the MUD in its rp section.

I managed to carryover the original story about Eck Grimoirath in the second of the two muds and got lots of great feedback from the other players who rp'd and even those who didnt (rp wasnt manditory, but well enjoyed). I had to change his race to Dark Elf, as High Elf wasnt a race on that mud, but I remained a Necromancer and changed parts of my origial story to go with Ecks's new form.

I had lots of fun, and now i have this whole character in my head that I could eventually write books about if i choose too, but my dream is to one day make and rpg using my character as the main character. (If i ever get filthy rich, you can bet your arse im buying off some Squaresoft employees to help me complete my dream).

I use Ecks on pretty much everything I play now, he is my avatar, alter ego in fantasy, and pretty much embodies everything I can't do in this real world of ours.

I would like to thank those that actually took the time to read through this ludicrisly long post of mine. Maybe you can understand now why when someone has a "Where's Sever" comment, I tend to get so pissed off at times. Other times i just sigh and ignore, or if the persons willing & patience, I try to explain the background. Thats that. ><;;

LOL, I've had this gaming handle for years now, I use it as my CS name, on various other online games, I'm shocked its never taken. It's a Salvadoreon food, and since thats my heritage, it always stuck. Its hilarious when people find out what it is, I'm named after food, but whenever someone does reconize it, they atleast know where I'm from.

Armachia is the name of a Vampire the Masquerade character I made (And love)

I shortened it to Armi because I thought it sounded "Cuter" for the character on FFXI. ^^

Hmmmm.......FUnny you brought this up. I was lucky enough to get this name, and I am sure you have seen many variations of it on Quetzalcoatl. I chose this name remembering the name of the actor in the horror film Children of the Corn. Also, there is a biblical reference, but the spelling of the bibnlical reference is Malachai. I thought I was original with this name, but seeing the others with the various spellings of the name kinda bugs me. Oh well. I have used this name in all the other games I have ever played, and that is a lot since I am a geezer....LMAO

Good subject.
I choose my name from my favorite paper RPG character ("Kult").
Cocyte (or Cocytos) is the name of a river of tears in ancient greeks hell (i know stictly no link at all with the world of FF, but i have been a paper RPG freak during something like 15 years and I have only discovered the FF world 3 years ago , so ... ;) )

--> Armachia : lol, my vampire the masquerade character was my second prefered character ... we nearly had a name coming from the same RPG !

My original character was given a name I made up a long time ago playing a Half-Orc on BG-2, Dungwader. I figured if fit a Galka alright. This time through I wanted to play a Hume and that name while somewhat humorous doesn't really fit a Hume so I went with one of the best villians from Highlander. Kurgan was taken so I went with Kurgon.

Well this may sound dumb but I played "The Sims Online" before I got into FF XI. David Rage was my character there as well. My Real name is David and the last word in my email address is "Rage." So thats how Davidrage came into being. Now I kinda wish I could change my name since I feel its kinda dumb sounding but oh well. Other names I have came up with for my other characters in the game were off of my favrite Rock group's songs. Good luck trying to figure out who my other characters are :P. I switch to them to escape the stress of being WHM and a higher level.

My name came from the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. One of the main characters is a woman named Kahlan. If you haven't read the books I highly recommend them. ^^

Well.. My real name is Jasper.. but someone had that already  . I simply replaced the s with a z and there you go!

Kyrial is basically my RPing character, whom I use pretty much anytime I RP with anyone. Her full name is always Kyrial Rydia Arthian, and she always prefers being called Kyrie instead of Kyrial. She's been in a lot of universes, but is always either elven or a catgirl of some sort. Normally she has long blue hair that's braided into pigtails, and glasses, but I couldn't do that in FFXI. :/ (Well, I could get the glasses, but it'd take forever. :P) She usually also has a high aptitude towards magic, though this isn't so much the case in FFXI.

By the way, Kahlaan: I've been wanting to read that series for awhile now. My best friend reads it, and she's been recommending it the whole time. Just gotta get my hands on some of them.

I originally wanted the name Opal....my Phantasy Star Online Force character was named Opal and I snaffood it from that 1960's Batman episode where catwoman steals the "Cats Eye Opal." I like cats...I like batman..and I like the name Opal! When that was taken I hopped on the good ol' Kabalarians.com and looked up a name that started with Sa and found Sabia...I like how most people call me Sabs...i think it's cute ^^

X-files, what can I say, not very original, but has followed me though pretty much any and all MMOs I have played (EQ, UO, AO, EnB, Horizons, EVE, WWII, SB, PS, and I think that is really it).

I've been using the name Fellina for about 10 years now . . . The very first incarnation of my character was as a Elven Swordmaster in the RP Earthdawn (a vety obscure game, doubt many would know of it). When I started surfing the web, Fellina became my online handle, and thus has been through all kinds of guises- Amazon on Diablo 2, Wise One on a Wheel of Time RP site, and so on. When I was originally thinking of buying FFXI, I was actually thinking of going by something different for a change- maybe making a Mithra, getting a different name, etc. But one day I woke up, and realized that I couldn't do it- Fellina had been me for so long, I couldn't imagine being known by another name. So, I made my Elvaan named Fellina. Originally, I choose the RDM job because the AF looks just like something an Earthdawn Swordmaster would wear, very flashy (they were fun, being focused not just on how they fight, but how they look doing it, lol). Now, of course, I find that I like that job the most- I've played most of the basic jobs, and a couple advanced jobs (notably BRD and PLD) for some levels, but never liked any as much as my Red Mage.

My husband's name, Osse, wasn't his first choice, however. While playing Earthdawn, his complement to my character Fellina was his Elven Nethermancer named Caleb. However, that name was already taken when he made his Elvaan BLM character. :( So he went with Osse, which is the name of the Valar that had dominion over water, in Tolkien mythos. It's kinda funny now, though, because there's also an Ose on the server. I get the feeling that they think my husband's character is a knockoff of his, but it's not the case. (Someone in my static knows someone in Ose's linkshell, and apparently they call my husband the "infamous" Osse, lol). It's actually led to some good jokes about which is the evil twin (Osse most likely, heh), and whether Ose is in a static with Rapapa and Merari (two others in my static are Rappa and Morari).

 PSO!!! Awesome.. I played PSO back in the Dreamcast days as well as XBOX! I was a hunter named NeoFirst. :D :D

I am very interested to see what Sega has up their sleeve for PSO II or whatever they call it. I know for sure they are dumping the PSO play mechanics and will be focusing on competing with FFXI :?

I loved PSO on the DC...I had it on the GC also so I could play with my friends IRL. Man every night at 10:00 I'd meet on Umbrial 15 and go kill sharks! I miss how easy it was to make money in that game after playing FFXI....I could sell like 10 DB Sabres and have max mesetta (sp?) it was awesome! Man it's nice to see some fellow PSO'ers on the boards! I loved it when it was free....I don't like the whole card idea ;_;

Jsoft has been my nick in sports and online games since middle school.. the name was kinda insulting at first, but i grew to like it... I grew up fast (physically) and when i was in 7th grade i was already 6'2 (have grown exactly 1 inch since 7th grade btw), playing for the school basketball team my coach asked that i play center, but I hated bumping and posting up, so i managed to get my way and play small forward.. My name being Jon, my nickname already at the time was just J.. and since i had J on the back of my school sweater my coach being the brilliant duffus he was called me jsoft (soft came from being a soft player) .. pretty soon everyone was calling me jsoft and after i stopped thinking of it as an insult i started to like it and when i went to high school I changed the J to jsoft, and that nick has stuck with me since
