Barely ... five minutes ago, I suffered an upheaval of frustrated rage. >_<

I've recently been replaying Final Fantasy VI. I still own the old, originally published cartridge that was out back in 1994, with the misleading title "Final Fantasy III" blazoned across the smug-looking Mog.

This time, however, I was going for a sense of completeness I'd never really obtained in the game. All of Strago's Lores, all of Gau's Rages, every treasure box opened ... etc. It was taking time, but I was enjoying it, and I was nearly to the point where I could abandon the World of Balance, hop onto the Floating Continent, and begin cleaning out the World of Ruin.

Lo and Behold, what happens to me while I was busy collecting dances for Mog? Game freeze, mid-battle. Grumbling, I accepted it. The cartridge is old. The system I'm playing on is old, if not as old as the cartridge itself. It's to be expected. I reset, and am greeted with a blank screen.

Grumbling further, I turn off the game, remove the cartridge, and stick it back in. What do I find to greet me? BLANK SAVE FILES. Not just the save file I was working on, either ... but another that was years old, a record of my first play-through. Only the top one, a fairly recent diversion, made it.

20 hours of my life, down the tube. I don't think I've got the patience to start over, at this point. Bleh. >_<

I'd just wait for FFVI advance, either end of this year or beginning of next, all of the old, plus new stuff, new espers, dungeon, possibly more characters, among other things :o, for the completionist in you, plus it won't freeze and delete your data(hopefully).

But sometimes, cracking out a "pure" version of the game > ALL.

I feel your pain. I played this on an emulater and got to the multi party battle in Narshe. I ended up failing as one of the soilders got up to the top and I saved it when I meant to load it. So everytime I hit load I would immediatly fail and get a game over. My file was "stuck" if thats what you want to call it and was no longer playable. I didn't feel like starting over so I ended up quitting. I never beat this game yet and I was hoping to beat it then, but obviously that never happened.

Save states are for pussies and TASers.

I'm surprised you only lost 20 hrs if this wasnt your first play through.

20hrs to get through the scenario bit and to Tritoch? That's actually pretty average for that segment, if maybe a little slow.

Edit: For a first time through, I mean.

You can call it what you want, but redoing things over again is a huge pet peeve of mine. I've played many of RPGs the "regular" way so its not like its something I'm abusing it.

But I said it wasnt his first play through. He lost all his files D:

Hmm. I think you guys are confused about what point I was at in the game ... the option to go to the Floating Continent (aboard the airship) was open to me; the last in-game advancement of storyline I had completed was Kefka's genocide of the Espers in Thamasa.

Twenty hours seems more than reasonable for this point, to me. Very average, considering that I spent a great deal of time on the Veldt collecting EVERY POSSIBLE RAGE for Gau, and EVERY POSSIBLE LORE for Strago. Literally, the only thing I had left remaining to do in the World of Balance was get two of Mog's dances (Water Rondo and Earth Blues). If 20 hours is somehow an "off" number for this point, I can't see why.

Don't question my creds, now ... it puts sand in my pussy.

I'm going to start over, I think, but on my PS version (Anthologies). I hate the load times, but it's better than risking another crash.

And, yes ... even if you're using an emulator, I think it's best to use the game's own save function.

Oh, whoops, I was thinking of sorrowfulturnip's post when I replied.

Final Fantasy Anthologies for PSOne. Comes with FFV and FFVI.

I suppose you mean EVERY POSSIBLE LORE/RAGE available in the WoB :P
Cause it's kinda hard to get Quasar, Grand Train, other Lores, Nightshade Rage, and many other Rages in the WoB :P

Note: And Yes, I'm just giving you a hard time :)
