This isn't a flame on an individual, but more the reaction of whole parties in general.

To start, I'm sure we've all had parties were it's well below our standard, and sometimes even, that standard varies from job to job. Maybe your standard is nothing, maybe it's 2k,3k,3.5k,4k,5k,6k or higher, whatever it may be. And I think it's safe to say most reasonable players prefer at least 3k/hr, and enjoy themselves on 4k/hr, exceptions apply.

Well here's the event that occured that lead to this post.

I'm xping in CN, I'm as ninja, a job I set higher standards for for two main reasons.

1. Ninja is truely a job of skill, the juggling of management between shadows, timers, elemental ninjitsu, WSs, general hate control, enfeebles, and macroing of equipment is something only the better players at FFXI will be able to handle very effectively

2. It costs alot of gil to level obviously, when spending so many Ks per hour, I tend to expect a little something back from the party, say 4k/hr bare min on this job, which is higher than the 3k/hr I'll accept on thf at the worst. This isn't some job where the only penalty to staying is some more wasted time and a little on food. Heck on some jobs even, like brd( which you can see I'm 58 in ) don't even need food for there really is almost no point except a few setups.

So here's the setup

nin/war ( me)

drk/thf-Gimp job that hits for 50 damage a hit on inc+++ opposed to the 80-130 of a good drk/war at 46. The only time this person would hit around 100 would be on soldier crawlers yielding around 50-70 base xp, ya it was that bad. 100 is nothing to be proud of on soldiers at 46, my 42 drk/war can hit for near 120 4 levels below, enough said.

drg/war- They guy had acceptable equipment, and I'm not too much a hardass in the 40s on equips anyway, but it was the lack of food that got to me. His damage was only half ass decent because he was 45. But honestly this guy was alright, except that he was a poor party leader. Refused to acknowedge xp sucked once everyone started dinging 46.

2 rdms, but they were alright. unfortunitely, due to the party setup they had little impact on the xp outside of backup cures, dispel,MB,refresh.

1 shitty whm that D/C about 20 times, that number is not exaggarated. It'd take between 5 and 10 seconds for this whm to catch on that someone was losing hp and needed a cure. Nice person...but crappy whm, that refused to use food too.

Ok so I'm obviously displeased with the party when they go "This xp is awsome!" I'm thinking what the hell, we're getting 2-3k/hr, it blows chucks. So after someone said this, for the 5th time, I spoke my mind and said it's the worst xp I got in weeks... Which is true, and they all flipped a shit about it. During the course of the party, I sent the drg/war leader multiple times explaining I want out, can we replace the 45s and 46s at least? Can you replace me? etc etc, and I just got BS excuses.

I tried to be fair about it with my tells in advance but I was ignored, so I left the party.

I then had to deal with one of the rdms trying to whine about it, I had to talk down to them to get them off my damn back. He accused me of buying my character too  Been playing since the 2nd day of NA PC release so that made me laugh IRL haha.

I'd not looking for jusication or agreement, because I can honestly give a hell. I'm sure a good portion will agree about it's ok to have standards and are pro choice. And I'm sure there are others that would say it's not a big deal or it depends on the standard. When I'm on ninja playing to the best of my ability and the others have the nerve to not even use food, I'm leaving, end of story. This ia just a vent about bad players, not individuals :x And no, I don't remember signing a contract saying I have to xp with you even if you suck. If you don't want someone to leave, play a little harder so you're at least medicore, most people are ok with that!

On a sidenote, what the hell have these people been through to call xp between 2 and 3k per hour "AWSOME!" I mean really, if they're calling that awsome, I don't want to know what 'average' is. Maybe the reason it's normally lower is because where ever their gimp character goes, the bad xp goes with them always.

And here are some standards I'll set for some of my jobs although I normally make a little more anyway

thief-3k/hr
ninja-4k/hr
brd-No standards, no need for this almost free to level job. Although most parties are 4-6k/hr on brd anyway.
Drk-3k/hr ( although no party ever gets that low when I'm in charge of the damage  )

Drunk/LS lowbie parties-The standard is fun :P

I got this impression from your post "the whole elitist I'm better than all you gimps, i'm a nin and my job takes the most skill" i have a feeling you're gonna get flamed.. not the topic you're posting about..

I agree with Jagster. I dont think its being elitist to want more "bang for your buck" as they say. I know from experience its hard to get your point across about the NIN/Money/bad exp rates thing without sounding like a prick. And I go by the thing of "You chose the job, you know its going to take money, so you cant bitch about it being expensive." BUT at the same time why should someone have to put up with spending lets say 20k an hour for 2k exp vs 20k an hour for 5k? Its just wanting to use your gil efficiantly ^^ It gets frusturating to play your job as well as you can and be thrown into a situation of party members that dont put as much effort into it, thus resulting in your own time/money being wasted.

There are different ways to come across when it comes to sucky exp rates. He gave notice, the party was too lazy to find a replacement, and he left. If he were really an elitist jerk he would just out of no where been "OMFG You all are wasting my gilzorz you suck KTHXBAI /disband"

you should have higher standards for xp when you play a job that drains as much gil as a well played NIN. if you were a utsusemi whore you wouldn't care that much.

there is a certain elitist tone to when you complain as one of these jobs, but it comes from peoples perception that NIN and RNG are assholes anyway.

I was very picky about XP'n wiht my RNG when i lvl'd from 67-71 without my static BRD. i left pts below 4k an hour. i would always let a PT leader what kind of xp i wanted, and would find out the set up of the PT. usually a ranger cannon, or a pt with a big light closer and BLM would get 5k easy.

i set the bar at 5k, would settle for 4k, anything lower i would have the leader replace me.

you can call it elitist, i call it saving my gil. i don't have enough room to stock up with good ammo and crap ammo for different parties. i don't think people setting standards for jobs they have to pay for should be labeled as elitist, its practical.

Yeah that DRG/THF sucked. I hate to inform other DRG's of facts, but, our DMG doesn't come from our WS >.> I mean. We use a WS we got at lvl 3 till we get what? Skewer or Wheeling Thrust. I mean, I've got a good set up in my static where I solo Penta Thrust, and then close Gravitation with the PLD, because the SC ends in around 120 DMG for the SC on it's own. Anywho that's beside the point. Our Wyvern is somewhat proof that we're much better at DoT. YEah, MNK owns us at that. But hey, you do what you can right? And if we -do- happen to land a big WS, we have High Jump at that level, so we can make it easier on a NIN Tank. He should have been hitting for 80-110 if I recall correctly, if he's got Mithkabobs (Assuming he has the proper ACC equipment) And Berserk is on. I do believe OTHER SJ"s from DRG could be effective, but not until post 60. So, I'm sorry you got a sucky DRG in your PT. (-__-) Anywho, yeah I guess you have a point I've never monitred Exp per hour though. Of course, I"m in a static with friends, so I don't care so much. But yeah, as long as you were polite about it, then I don't see a problem with leaving the PT. I've left Exp PT's because I was tired of leveling. >_> GASP. If you found your own replacement, then well, yeah you shouldn't be in any trouble at all...unless they knew you were carrying them and that if you left they would uber suck <_<

x2 rdm
x1 whm
x1 nin
x1 drk/thf
x1 drg/war

I can already see this party going nowhere at 43-46. maybe at higher levels when said melee jobs have higher damage capabilities, but at your ninjas level theres very little damage output.

x1 rdm
x1 blm
x1 whm
x1 nin
x1 drk/thf
x1 drg/war

This setup would have been better , the blm adds extra DoT / nukes for SC's which would help significantly.

Just my thoughts =o

You say that you should replace yourself if you are going to leave...dont
you think its rather cruel to invite some unsuspecting person to a party
that you know is really bad?

I told a crappy pt i was leaving once and they said "ok, we'll find you a
replacement." convieniently i had 3 WHM in my ls that lvl seeking...Did i
just stand around and let them get a shitty pt? No i told them it sucked and
i dont reccomend them joining it. The pt leader figured out it was me who
told them not to join and kicked me and refused to D2 me (i was /SMN and
ldr was BLM). Anyway long story, short Pt disbands, the ldr says i am an
asshole and the other pt members thank me for making the pt disband
and i got an invite to a ls.

While replacing yourself i generally something that i believe you should do,
it is unfair to screw someone else over because you want out of a crappy pt.

Thats just my two cents.

A DRG and a DRK in the same party and you accepted the invite even ?

hahahahahahah you deserved it.

What a shit set up

Hey, later on we make a great Light SC :P

ive had to pull myself out of an xp party once because it was just horrible.
lvling nin and i was in a pt with a thf, 2 blm, rdm, and something else. skill chains werent doing shit hate was all over because blm were going buckwild, and my debuffs werent sticking well enough. i was going through tons of tools trying to get hate most of the time and they were long fights with lots of downtime. i was spending way too much money just being in that one party than i should have been. so i told em straight up "this party is horrible" and we all agreed and departed.

Actually Drk+Drg skillchain well from level 10 on.

My thoughts exactly

And vang :P I happen to static on brd with a drk, drg, blm DD setup, it rocks. Just so happens this drk subbed thf in the 40s and had shitty normal hits, and the drg/war didn't use food...So simply put, these guys just weren't very good. Lack of food, shitty sub, starting SC 'way' too late, etc.

nin, drk, drg, blm, whm, brd setup brings in about 4-5k/hr, and that's WITH a shitty SC ( no offense drks, having played it to 42 I think their damage per hit can be UNREAL, but WSs blow chucks pre 60/66), I can't wait until 66...at all!!!

And you're right I'm acting like a semi elitest on ninja, it is a very elitest job by image after all. Having been playing it alot lately and based off first hand experience, I can say there is definitely more to do on ninja than any other job I've ever played by almost double in a non thief party.

Well that's my opinion anyway, I shouldn't state it like fact. But in my opinion, it is a job not for the brain dead.

Once again, quality drg+drk+blm is <Impossible to Gauge>!

I guess I've had horrible luck in parties....well I know I have. I consider myself a good drk. I have done as much research as most anyone can stomach. Although I don't have the very best gear, it is damn close. All my gear is accuracy related so I use food for strength.

I usually get anywhere from 2k-3k an hour out of my parties. I do play late nights, and a lot of times people are tired. That might be it....

Also the later it gets members start dropping like flies, becuase they are going to bed. This always adds 10-15 minutes of time waiting on replacements.

All that aside when it is still early, and we have no replacement, I'm lucky to find a party that does above 3k an hour.

I can't really be too picky about the party set up, becuase a lot of nights I'm lucky to even get an invite. Most parties are wrapping things up by the time I get on.

Any suggestions?

I was there last night protecting my b/f and the party when i wasnt called AFK buy my parental unit.

not much I could have done.

The whole time I was there I never saw a SC.

Apart from play earlier? no not really...except possibly learn japanese and pt with them.

I've gotten pretty good with the translater.

JP parties have been hit, and miss for me. As long as everyone knows their job, they are ok, but if anyone as to communicate with eachother I feel like we are speaking cave man back and forth to eachother. At least with an <English> party we can effectively bitch one another out.

I don't think you were being elitist.

I've leveld nin, brd, drk, and mnk past 40... most way past. On nin i was kinda picky but if the party was fun then I'd stay. Watching your gil burn while you are miserable for several hours just isn't worth it. I only had maybe 3 parties in 56 lvls of ninja that were that bad, i just had to bow out. Some were borderline though, and some i told em to get their ass in gear or i was out and they actually listened XD.

DRK and DRG aren't bad together, What is amusing is that until guillotine/cross reaper/Spinning slash a DRK is more often and better at being a skillchain opener than closer. Espectially wih Vorpal Scythe or Power Slash leading into a distortion ( i dont remember if thats possible with drg lol. Getting old.)

Honestly, if you're going to level with pickup parties, you're going to have to take the good with the bad. If you're going to drop every party as soon as the experience drops below 4k an hour (particularly in CN/Garlaige where there can be a lot of competition) then you'll get a reputation as an ass pretty quickly, and all those nice invites will dry up...
