When bad parties bitch and moan that you're leaving.

Elitist

If hes an Elitest than i guess i am too, i kinda grumble to myself when i check a PT member with 1/2 asses gear. Elitelists r the only thing that keep FFXI fun.

As long as you give at least 15 minutes notice, it's reasonable to leave a party for any reason. People have done it to me and I've done it to them, it's no big deal as long as you are polite and give some warning.

Also, I never look for a replacement for myself. If you are in a party that I'm leading, I don't want you to look for your own replacement either. The reason for this is simple and 2-fold. A. I don't know what is going to happen with the party when I'm gone, so why should I subject some poor smuck to a total unknown. B. As party leader, I don't want to start explaining to the 30 WHM/5 mnk why he's not getting the invite that PlayerX told him to travel 20 minutes to get to. It's best if the remaining people with an actual stake in the party decide whom to invite and what to do.

I've honestly never had the heart to a ditch a bad party, but one thing that does get to me is inviting me, and then once I arrive at camp they say they are disbanding. Hell, even then I don't flip out, but w/e.

Yeah, just wasted time travelling and not accepting any other invites, no real damage done.

I was there last night protecting my b/f and the party when i wasnt called AFK buy my parental unit.

not much I could have done.

The whole time I was there I never saw a SC.

Ya, that was nice of you to watch over party. Although healing wasn't our issue, damage was slow and battles unrewarding.

I've leveld nin, brd, drk, and mnk past 40... most way past. On nin i was kinda picky but if the party was fun then I'd stay. Watching your gil burn while you are miserable for several hours just isn't worth it. I only had maybe 3 parties in 56 lvls of ninja that were that bad, i just had to bow out. Some were borderline though, and some i told em to get their ass in gear or i was out and they actually listened XD.

I'm with you a bit on this. Normally I'm not picky, but on ninja I want them to be at least average to slightly above average. But there have been parties 3-4k/hr I've stayed in, simply because the people sometimes just know how to make it a good time. That party I left...No conversations, no jokes, no intelligent discussions, or anything entertaining. I've been more entertained in JP parties in which zero english was spoken, not joking. It was kind of like working in restraunt/deli kitchen with immigrants or not so talkitive people, a depressing feeling.

Honestly, if you're going to level with pickup parties, you're going to have to take the good with the bad. If you're going to drop every party as soon as the experience drops below 4k an hour (particularly in CN/Garlaige where there can be a lot of competition) then you'll get a reputation as an ass pretty quickly, and all those nice invites will dry up...

Oh don't get me wrong, sometimes it's no ones fault, sometimes things just get crowded or mistakes happen. People die, we get over it. Lack of effort and such is a bit different in my opinion. It's one thing to be accident prone, it's another to not try. Rank 6s should know better than to use drk/thf in the 40s, people by the 40s should know the benefits of using food. When xp is 50-170 per fight, and normally 90-110, the leader should consider a new camp if he wishes the party to keep xping for a longer time.

There are people out there I enjoy xping with who are honestly medicore at the game at best, but sometimes they're making an effort and only coming up average, I have no problem tolerating those people 90% of the time.

When /sea all nin 42-46 is just me, and /sea all pld 42-46 is just one pld already in a party, I'm not too worried about invites drying up. I'll take the medicore with the good, but not the bad with the good.

B. It's best if the remaining people with an actual stake in the party decide whom to invite and what to do.

This seemed slightly off topic but since it's been brought up, I find it good practice to ask leader and the party if I should try and replace myself instead of just doing it. I had a decent party going today in quicksand, when thf( who was nothing amazing but was pleasent and fairly deceny ) replaced themself without letting us know. As a result the replacement didn't get to xp long with us, so I covered their tele, was the least I could do for them only getting 1-1.5k xp.

Well in my experience people just replace themselves with their own job...and thats fine. Sometimes there is not another of their job seeking (e.g a SAM) So they get a Monk instead, apart from changing SC thats usually ok. But its when people get stupid replacements that annoy me; an example being when i had a RDM replace himself with a RNG...dont know what the hell he was thinking. Pt went smoothly all the same...only i needed to spend more time resting, but the mobs were dying faster.

I undertstand your view though and think that the best possible thing would probably be to ask the leader if he wants you to replace yourself.

And back on the main topic...yeah you should not feel forced to xp with not only crappy people but boring or rude people. I am usually fine with 2k or less an hour if i am having fun in an xp pt, i mean sure 3-4k would be nice...but its ok i'm having fun no need to ditch some nice people, and visa versa you dont drop a 6k per hour pt just because they are not very talkative. But i see little reason to stay in a party where xp is slow and there is a depressing atmosphere or if they are even being rude to you.

thats my two cents ^^

Oh and i meant to say Buyer not Seller previously...

Did you really think drk drg ninja was going to do alot of damage?

I think you were more of the problem than you think you are. IF you know your an elitest like you obviously are then you should know what parties can and cannot work. You just can't sit back and complain and leave when things dont go your way. If your gonna be like that then you should make sure you have an ideal setup before you go out and waste everybody elses time.

If you don't know, then obviously you should stay in the party since your not the elitest you claim to be and are a noob like everybody else your complaining about. If your still learning don't burn everybody else who was willing to give you a chance in the party.

Its pretty obvious to me that the party you had wasn't going to be a fast xp party and I am not the type of person that outright leaves simply because of those reasons(well mostly ).

You have 6 people in that party who go out and agree to spend time with you to lvl and also help you lvl. If you know how to get xp like you claim to know, then you should know a possible slower party when you see it and avoid it. Because while you obviously are selfishly thinking of yourself, you really look like the problem in that post because its obvious from the start, that party wasn't gonna be the fastest ever.

YOu should have left and never wasted THIER time. just my 2 cents.

If you would've read throughly, you can find where I say I static with a "Good" drg, drk, ninja, and know as a frontline, they can reel in 4k/hr effortlessly with MB(s) and more around 4-6k/hr with bard depending on level. So I have clear cut experience that drg-drk-nin is a potienally great frontline.

How am I supposed to know the drg is a jackass and doesn't know when to start SC and doesn't use food, or the drk doesn't know where to position. Next time I'll get my big crystal ball out "Your group's drg doesn't use food and doesn't start SC at apprioate times, and by the way, the drk is a great example of a high rank noob. Ohhh and by the way, whm doesn't have enough gil for choco or food or certain very average equipment, he doesn't believe in farming"

Me: GEE THANKS CRYSTAL BALL, I OWE YOU ONE!!!!

And as far as me wasting their time, that's kind of funny :P It's more like I got sick of carrying 'their' weight around. If you're running in a marthon or something, and someone twists an ankle and can't finish the race, are you going to pick them up and take them to the finish( reward ). Are they completeing the race and earning the experience to become better for next time? I'm a strong believer in team dynamics, and I think everyone should attempt to put in near equal effort, I'm not carrying the lazy people or idiots.

If you know how to get xp like you claim to know, then you should know a possible slower party when you see it and avoid it. Because while you obviously are selfishly thinking of yourself,

If you want to carry people giving half assed efforts on your back, then by all means go ahead. XP is a partnership, it's not when one guy carries the weight of others. FFXI is about interdependence and some people suck too much to fill in their part of the web.

My expections weren't exactly high, unless you consider average high. Expecting everyone to have some form a food, preforming a SC so our mages can MB, and xp mobs that'll give more than 50-100 base xp aren't high standards, are they? What could've I been thinking setting such high standards at level 44-46?

And if you really think I'm the problem, well you had to of been there. When I'm outdamaging one of the DDs sometimes while on tanking duty, that's a problem.

I have put up with 2k/hr parties and such many many many many times over the almost 2 years I've been playing. Infact, I never left a party before because it was bad until this week. I've barely seen others leave parties unless they were a job capable of finding another party or getting a party another time when they wanted, such as ninja and ranger players mostly, followed by rdms, and maybe 1 or 2 blms ever. And rdms-blms are free mid xp minus the food costs we all share, so I would consider a blm-rdm leaving the party rude ( If due to xp alone unless it was beyond bad ) as I would any job dispite the fact they are in fairly good demand.

I have been in bad parties in which rngs-nins have left, and to be honest, it was dissapointing but I never got upset by it. There have been times in which I've even sent /t's "Don't worry about it, that was shitty and I don't blame you for not wanting to piss gil away in vain."

I understand where you assumation about me comes from, but lets make this clear again, this is the first time I've outright left a party for sucking. My patience for this kind of crap is lower on ninja job, and alot of rngs-ninjas seem to agree with me and are stating in their personal experience that once gil becomes involved, the normal set of rules changes.

And for the love of quadav once again, I know first hand drg-drk-nin is the start of a good setup, and I've seen it done without blm effectively even, although blm is better, plus gotta love Jender :P The fact I've been in millions of drk-drg-nin parties with 4-6k/hr and with this drk-drg we were around 2.5k/hr shows it was this practicular drg and drk. Whm wasn't too skilled(although nice seeming), but downtime wasn't our problem. And I have nothing bad to say about the rdms that MB's when drg-drk actually got SC right, dispel/refreshed what appeared to be plenty fast, and nuked with spare mp.

And I know it wasn't me because with some friends I got 4k/hr the next day, and that's 4k/hr with some deaths, thanks to good old sickle slash. And the party before the bad one, was around 5k/hr, I wish I could say I made it, but it was a bunch of people that just kicked ass.

Well that's odd...

I just noticed my title, fortune teller in training, and my topic speaks about crystal balls and being able to always predict bad parties. Life's funny

I agreed with you up until you said RDM and BLM shouldn't leave if a pt is sucking because they dont have to piss away gil on tools or arrows...Yeah thats crap because A) they are wasting gil on food and B) they are wasting time they could spend earning gil and then get an xp pt later that doesn't suck. Sure NIN no doubt is a skilled job...but that doesn't mean that other jobs are not allowed to leave shitty pts because they dont piss gil or require quite as much skill as NIN.

Sorry rin, let me repharse.

I wouldn't have let if I was a blm, rdm, whm, thf, pld, war, drk, drg, bst, smn, brd, sam, or mnk, because there is no extra stress factor of "Awww damn, I might as well flush gil down the shitter than xp with these guys." I just picked rdm and blm as examples because they're high demand compared to alot of those other jobs.

Even though some of those jobs are high demand, I'd stay as any of them because I could care less about playing in vain. Worry about playing good and food, that's it.

The exception being the unlucky <Insert job here> that keeps dying either because he's foolish or the rest of the party is too low/not good, and keeps having to pop new food alot more than they should.

I was in a party that got 3k in four hours last night. It was a bit frustrating, but we sill managed to have FUN.

Honestly, I've been in dozens and dozens of parties like that, medicore-ish, yet great group of people, I bet alot of people have. Alot of times, I'd rather be in those than the 4-6k/hr parties where xp can get boring fast.

Of course, 4 and higher K/hr and a fun of people, then you got yourself a post in good times :P

What was your static like? Was it drg, drk, nin, rdm, rdm, whm? Or did it have a bard, blm, rang thrown in there? It obviously makes a HUGE difference when you add any of those jobs to the setup that you had.

I"m not saying its not possible to get high xp off that setup, I know its possible. But there are much better setups around that wouldn't be tied to having 2 elite players at drg, and drk, and we all know how rare it is to find really good drgs, and drks.

I just think you came into that party with too high hopes and you ended up giving everyone there the "shaft". You should have left before the party started if you wanted a "Gaurentee" of high xp. I would think with expectations like yours you would want 3 DD's minnimum.

There have been fights in which I'm too busy on sleep duty from controlling 1-2 links/adds to buff, and they still kick ass. Bard doesn't automaticlly equal great players. It's in the players in this case.

And you dodged one of my points I brought up

Since when is food and a well timed SC high expections? It's not, end of story.

The reason I avoided your so called point is because its not your point at all. For some reason your just trying your damdest to find SOME reason to excuse yourself for leaving the party.

The reason you left was slow xp, and slow kills. Your telling me if they ate food, had SC and STILL had slow XP you would have stayed with 50-70 per kill? Thats not what your saying in the post.

So wheres the end of your so called story? You seem to be back tracking now because for some reason you see being an elitest as being bad.

Your an elitest plain and simple, I"m sure HITLER didn't want to see himself as an elitest but what you want for yourself and what you actually do are two differnt things.

You should be aware of the things that you do in your life and how it can be precieved by others so that you know what it is your doing.

After all we are all angels in our own eyes. I"d like to think i'm a nice guy most of the time but from my reputation on this board do you think that I am one?

Hmmmmmm.......

After all we are all angels in our own eyes. I"d like to think i'm a nice guy most of the time but from my reputation on this board do you think that I am one?

I don't like you, and you probably consider me a prick, so we're even.

On topic of the xp and regards to effort. If effort was shown, it probably would've been 3.5k/hr and I would've stayed. Plus the showing of effort shown makes me feel more appeirated, and therefore I'm more willing to break my back for people I'm in a xp partnership with.

And I fully admit to being an elitest, on "ninja", due to said reasons I mentioned before. However, I don't like the term because I don't consider myself a well ruonded elitest, it's situational depending on certain factors and the atmosphere of the situation.

And once again, food and SC aren't high expections, even if you're a drg and finally got an invite after 5 days of seeking.

it should be up to the pt leader to find replacements. When i am pt leader, i know i want to be the one to pick who will join my pt. A lot of people really suck at realizing what might work out best for the pt and just get something close to their job. I have been ldr too many times where a blm or rng might be like "i have to go but i got a replacement mnk or drg here." People who are leaving don't really care who comes in the pt after, since they wont be around if and when it sucks.
Also, if i have given good notice, and i want out of the pt, why should i be looking for the ldr? thats his job in the party, not mine.
