So my blm is 48 (almost 49) and Im thinking, when is it ok to manaburn?
I know it can be done (somewhat) at any level but when it becomes usefull is my question.
** thinking of starting a static**

It should be doable any time 50+ when you start getting AM. 5x Freeze = dead mob.

Can do it at 50+, but 300+ MP per spell is a huge drain and vastly MP inneficient. It gets much better at higher levels once you get Tier IV.

Manaburning pre and post-70 are completely different. Pre-70 you take advantage of the ability to get chain 5s on mobs way stronger than you constantly, while 70+ you focus on getting high chains on weaker mobs. You won't be getting 10k+/hour at the lower levels, but you can get a consistant 5-6k/hour (which a lot of PTs seem to have trouble doing).

Yes make a manaburn static so that when you hit 75 you won't be very good at landing a magic burst.

Not like melees know how to SC anyways... :nono:

Just start solo/duo/burning at lv.1 so you're used to it. We're not yhe "in" job now. At least until we get axe skill and start subbing nin.

I may like to join this blm static btw depending on the times for it. My blm is at lvl 51 now, less than 1k to lvl 52. Although I've been working on camping mystic profblix here and there for the earring piece and one of the blm scrolls.

Never, party till you know how to magic burst, and stun bomb tosses, and avoid pulling hate from a NIN tank, and how to make yourself an attribute to a party (backup healing, sleeping links, enfeebling mobs) instead of the stereotypical melee viewpoint on black mages ("overnuking, hate pulling noobs who take 3 minutes after a pull to be able to get up and do it again.").

Only then, and then only, I might allow you to solo a little. Build up some soloing skills. Learn how to pull with Gravity yet avoiding links. Learn how to conserve your MP effectively, learn how to time your sleeps to a mobs attack so you don't get interrupted and die. Learn how to effectively use stun to run past a mob if you're cornered.

Then, when you feel you've learnt those skills, and you still feel an urge to go piss your life away with black mages who don't want to learn those things and would rather get 'faster' exp (which is BS, go duo or trio on wamouras with another BLM and a brd or rdm, great exp.) then sure, you can go manaburn.

I go manaburning maybe once a month, so I realise how lucky I am that I can solo fairly well.

if he don't know the basics of blm by lvl 50 he sucks. XP sucks, get the fastest xp you can asap, worry about learning the "skills" later.

The "skills" don't take that long to learn, and at 75 you'll never even xp with a NIN so learning that "skill" is useless.

As if people invited 75 BLM in magic burst party.

remove bard and rdm from there, they are useless. same exp/hour if you put a 3rd blm instead. Brd especially is useless, at least rdm can nuke.

Ah yeah but with a BRD atleast then you can go to puddings if most of the wamoura camps are full and kill those for a while aswell.

It's ok for black mages to manaburn whenever black mages feel like manaburning. You aren't a war/nin, nin/war or support job, so you won't get parties otherwise. SE's current vision for XI is a game where jobs segregate and only party in same job setups. It took me a while to realize I wouldn't get anywhere trying to be diverse. Manaburn only. Other jobs are happy not to have us around, but fortunately, we're self sufficient enough not to need other jobs anyway. Seek out balanced parties has been replaced with stick with your own kind as the exp mantra of the day.

Every time a group of BLMs manaburns, God kills a kitten.

Which is fine by blms - if kittens were in the game, we'd manaburn them too.

Hence Ajs sig.
