Many of you are likely aware of the intercontinental fibre cables that allow direct wired data transfer between land masses, as opposed to satellite communications which are extremely costly to repair in the event of failure. I'm no satellite pro but I'd suspect fibre also permits higher bandwidth - 100% guess there.
I thought there was only one fat intercontinental pipe going between NA and Asia. Apparently not so. There appears to be dozens laying out an array of routes between countries and states.
Two cables were recently severed off the coast of Alexandria, Egypt.
Original estimates placed the blame on ships dropping anchor off-shore due to weather conditions, then being pushed and pulled around and shredding the cable.
Alas:
Two days later, a third cable was severed. Further details were revealed:
Three massive fibre cables sliced within a week, all due to unknown reasons.
But wait, we're not done! Call within the next 15 seconds and we'll throw in a fourth shredded cable, an estimated $25 million value, absolutely free!
I've not heard of these cables ever being damaged. I don't know how long they've been in place but I'd guess most of them are less than 15 years old. The fourth break seems to be legitimately explicable, but the other 3?
Conspiracies commence! Is the Day of the Dolphins at hand?

Two days later, a third cable was severed. Further details were revealed:
