When to get the next best armor.

Ok, when I was on Hades, I always went for the "Newer, better, stronger" armor and equpiment. Everytime I leveled to the point where I could get better armor, I did. From Cotton to Bone to Beetle all in the span of four levels. From Chainmail to Kamphenschaller overnight. etc.

Well now I want to be a little more conservative with my gil. So how many levels can you go without getting a better set of armor? Like, I use Cotton gear (Cotton Tekko, Cotton Sabaki, etc.) for my NIN right now but how long should that last me? Should I get Bone armor right away or should I wait for Beetle?

Thanks in advance.

nin id recomend weapons over armor there a nice lvl 30 body which do you good for awhile. if you see a large jump in stats then you should probly get a little def in stats you can skip

For NIN, honestly, NIN tanking is freakin awful anyway until Kurayami:Ichi, which coincidentally isn't until Beetle+1 is available (gogo evasion).

It sucks a lot nonetheless, though, as once you finally get a lot of good evasion gear - Y HELO THAR MANDIES. ;-;

Wait for beetle+1, I'd say.

I always upgrade my armor at the first possible chance, especially if I am a job that needs to be upgraded to be effective. Mages can usually extend the life of their armor because they are needed either way. As a melee though, I have to keep upgrading to keep my reputation up so I get invited back to parties with past people. I don't want them picking up a melee other than me so I always strive to be the best with all upgrades I can get. Tanks usually need to upgrade right away too because the added defense and other stats can mean the difference between life or death. It's up to you though. It's all about effectiveness. I always try to keep my armor up-to-date as possible, and also plan about 2-3 levels ahead incase I go on a leveling spree far from an AH.

Ninja atm. Im 18 now in the dunes and ill hopefully be in Lower Delkfutt's Tower by the end of tonight. But if Beetle+1 is what I SHOULD wait for, I probably will then.

ya i skimed didnt catch
but change my post above

Mokuto Katana +1. I was able to purchase two of these in a players bazzar for only 8k each. These are level 16, do some decent damage and have the additonal effect of silence, perfect for leechers and gamblers. (Goblins).

Though its a lvl 16 katana, its lasting me fairly well and I dont think ill upgrade my weapons until jeuno.

I went with Gassan and Mokuto +1 until level 27 or 28 when you can get the +STR and +AGI I think they are katana. Fukato? As for body gear I got emp pin, the fishing gear looking armor, fed tekko, king trousers, and winged boots +1, throw some AGI rings on top of that and you are good until the Juji Gi at 40. The biggest difference I see when I level NIN is in types of food. I like the squid sushi +1 and for the stats it's not all that expensive. Beetle +1 is nice but I don't think it's really needed considering cost and how fast you can go through the island, so I say save for the level 25 gear. That is much more useful.

dont play NIN if you are concerned with money and skipping gear.

period.
QFT, listen to Neophytal.

EDIT-Ignore EVERYTHING shunewtf said.

There are jobs where you can cut corners to save gil, ninja is not one of those jobs. It is incredibly expensive, however the pay off is very high. There is a reason PLDs where left behind so much before they revamped em.

I am not a Nin so my advice is probaly not the best, but +evasion is always key as is good weapons to help hold hate. Not to mention offensive ninjitsu. Nin face 2 real problems, getting hate and keeping hate. In order to do this they need to do damage AND not be hit often. Acomplishing these goals is doable but it aint cheap.

Well the way I view it is, I can afford my tools, food and weapons. Armor is important for a tank, I know, but Its not a priority for me. I have some good eva+ gear stored in my MH for later levels, but until I can clear 30 as NIN, I cant use it. So I just need effective means to get me through the next 10 levels. I have found how I am going to do it, so there is no longer a need to debate.

Ok then, What is good for a NIN to use. I know my gear is great so please tell me what is better. Maybe you have info on a different food? I don't know. When I go through qufim though it takes about 4-5 hours tops. I can't see spending 250k + on gear that I'm going to use for 5 hours, especially when at the end of that time there is far better gear there waiting.

Amen. Ninja is a job you can cut corners on. You just have to do it right and at the right times. Its difficult but not impossible.

Katana's were pretty much current for your level... i think thats important..

sorry for the long post, as you can see when i originally went through the levels i didnt follow the cookie cutter equip guide until i was past 65. i know im gimp... =(

That's interesting eiteen because I noticed that you have very limited pieces of enimity equip pre-70s. So I am wondering how was holding hate without the use of enimity equipments and how did you hold hate?

My nin is at 52 atm and having great fun with it. XD

well i tinkered with gear a lot... i tried the +1 emnity earring at around 40 or something.. Eris i think was.. and it sucked IMO...i was a spammer of the ni wheel from 40-62... and i was able to hold hate pretty decently...i also had the +2 emnity earrings level 54? for both ears and i found that it didnt make much difference on hate vs my dodge earrings..

at one point maybe level 54 i had a macro that macro'd in my emnity gear when i used the NI wheel, but i got rid of that because it was just didnt make as big of a difference as i thought it would...

holding hate wasnt that bad even without a thief... and i always saved tp for the start of the fight...

Provoke > Blind > Berserk if ready > Blade: Jin or whatever ws you have > Cancel Berserk > Paralyze > Uts ni or ichi if needed > ele wheel > provoke > and ichi or ni inbetween.

Yeah, NIN is expensive.
I'm farming 9mil atm to buy the armor.
Of course I'm gonna grab like Jujitsu, kote, spirit torque and fumas.

BTW Jack-o-lanterns have -10 CHR which is rumored to lessen the effect of provoke. When I was going through those levels as a Galka i just used squid for the added AGI, and focused on getting AGI pieces where I could. My Parrying was capped until about lvl 45 from tanking coffer mobs as a DRK/WAR.

I also used the lvl 35 AGI earrings over the dodge, you lose -3 eva, but the +6 AGI offers you a better chance to evade and parry. I wouldn't suggest going over lvl 40 without a pretty nice stream of income because spamming elemental wheel is fun. I could go whole fights with only one voke. If the mob turned I would toss out another ele spell and watch him turn back around.

You also want to make sure that the enfeebles land in your party. Some mages get a bit testy when asking them to make sure they land, but being on top of it yourself gaurantees that you will be doing your best as a NIN. When a NIN doesn't get hit, the xp takes off with absolutely no down time.

SE rep stated explicitly at the fan festival that CHR has no effect on Provoke.
