For me, it'd be a tossup between FFVI and FFVII, but after some thought I went for FFVII. Don't get me wrong, I loved FFVI, really enjoyed FFIV and I have a soft spot for FFV cause it's the first I've played. But FFVII had that, umm, hard to describe, but it was a wowness-style factor in it. And my mental blocks override outdated graphics, so that was never a problem. I'll admit, FFVII was the only game I have screamed at my pc "OMG WTF NOOOOO!!!" over. Plus I liked the lack of the "omgz save teh world enlighted ones!" near/right off the bat. Yes I know FFVI didn't start out like that either, but it was much closer than FFVII. If I remember correctly, and I forget who said it; "Shinra was motivated by money, and that shit is real." Still, the tip between FFVI and FFVII for me was in FFVI I could treat it like every other ff game below. Stack up on stupid amounts of melee and the basic magic to cure/buff and go to town hacking things in half. (summary, ff I(GBA), II(GBA), IV,V,VI (all zsnes) was "screw magic, stab it" mentality.) Ironic that I play a healer and a tank huh? FFVII "forced" me to use magic much MUCH more than I used to. And for that, I was grateful. No more 16hit-in-one-turn-to-one shot-the-end-game-boss. Just my two cents. Dakkada!
