I'm having a problem trying to decide what food I should eat. My main charachter is a level 57 white mage. I have lots of MP and very rarely run out unless the party is just horrible so MP+ foods aren't really that helpful to me. I have plenty of MND+ bonuses and a light staff so MND+ foods aren't really increasing my healing power (Cure III does 210, Cure IV does 401). I have a dark staff so Heal MP+ foods aren't that helpful to me (and they're usually low bonuses to begin with). I have experimented and decided to just quit eating foods altogeather and haven't noticed the slightest difference in my performance. But I feel very cheap when I don't eat and my party members are. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should eat? Thanks. :)

Dont feel cheap. I found out really quickly that not all jobs need food. I just cant justify eating food on Brd when im never gonna need that extra MP. Dont feel bad about it ^^

Yanno, I've been torn with the same thing, though on a more general scale.
I'm a 54 WHM, and I'm torn as to whether I should be gearing toward MND(Currently +22 or 23 I think), MP(Currently around +100 and I have Dark Staff and Seer's Tunic for regen), both, or neither.

As it stands now, more MND -might- squeeze another point of HP out of my cures, and stick the odd MND based debuff better... but that's rare, and I won't see much benefit from even more MND.

MP is also not a problem, as I can drain down to practically empty and be ready to roll by the time the puller gets back with a new mob. Such a surplus I even get the occasional Holy in there... *whistles*

Anyway, here's me currently. (Nov. 1 2004)

Thoughts?

Well since you've got all your important WHM stats taken care of, the only choice is to pop a Mithkabob and go in swinging!!

You can never have enough +mp regen even with dark staff. I love goblin chocalate for +2mp regen per tick. It is usually 1.5k a stack (when halloween isn't going on) for a 30 min effect. If is too pricy, bubble chocalate averages 500 a stack for a +1 mp tick. If you want to go all out, I prefer Hobgoblin choclate for a +5 mp regen and 1 hour effect, but its pretty pricy. +mp and +mnd food however for whm are rarelly neccessary. You can get +mnd easy enough from gear and extra mp isn't usually to helpful for 40+ especially compared to +mp regen rate food.

As a fellow WHM, just hit 54, I have decided that MND is not the be all to end all like INT is for a BLM. That being said I would say go for either the +MP total food or the MP regen food. Now decideing what to eat.

That honestly depends on the party, if you have alot of opurtunities to med for a click or 2 then go with the regen, otherwise if you are a more busy WHM go with the total MP. BLM have it nice cause pies give a nice healthy INT boost as well.

That being said I eat Pumpkin pies for the most part, partly because of the MP but also because I find that when I join a party in progress the BLM may be low on food and could use a couple.

Thanks for the info. :) I guess i'll start eating all the bubble chocolate I have left over from halloween until that runs out then move on up to more MP Regen. I'll have to see if I can make hobgoblin chocolate because that sounds well worth it.

Best plan if you can afford it is get both. +MP regen is your first priority. Beyond dark staff, food, and later errant body there isn't much you can do for that. So next get all the +mp gear you can ingnoring +mnd and make this your main equipment (balance +mp later with -enimity gear you get avaiable with af and later errant). Finally, you will want to max out your +mnd as a reserve set of gear if you have the spare money for as I'll explain below.

On the occasional party where you are partied with a brd and no rdm (eg: brd, whm, blm back line) you will be the main enfeebler as whm. Many whms in this situation blow off enfeebling all together with the excuse their enfeebling is too weak which just isn't the case. :x Keep a reserve set of +mnd gear you can switch into when enfeebling and you'll be set (unless you are several lvls below the rest of the party fighting IT, then you can give up on paralyze and slow).

For me personally, I have a macro that switches in all my +mnd to boost me from +8 to +34mnd. This makes a huge difference in my ability to enfeeble. I was able to make it all the way to 69 without having much more difficulty enfeebling than rdm's I have partied with. After you are done enfeebling just swap back in that +mp gear with another macro and you're back on track. Later you also have +enfeebling skill neck pieces available to look into buying or if you have lots of money available pick up the matching elemental staves for your enfeebles (paralze is ice, slow is earth, etc.) to drastically lower your resist rate. With the rate the prices on these staves keeps dropping this is becoming moreof an option day by day.

As for +mnd to increase the power of your cures is somewhat true, but usually your cures will cap so quickly on their own that this isn't worth messing with. By the time you make a higher lvl cure your main it is usually capped (with cure V still being uncapped for me  but its hard to fit all of that in already).

I use Hobgoblin chocolate ... +5 mp a tick and I synth it myself ...

Very rarely do you get to have full mp when you are chaining and mp regen is probably the most important thing for a mage when xping ... sure you can have +40 more mp with pumpkin pies, but how often do you really get to rest to full? ... therefore I've chosen to go with the chocolate ...

When you take into account dark staff (+10 mp per tick), Errants body (+5 mp per tick), and the Hobgoblin chocolate (+5 mp per tick) you fill up pretty darn quick ...
