So I've been doing alot of stuff in alliances these days on my whm and I was wondering how I could heal outside my party more efficiently. I was told on PS2 you can just scroll through the alliance list. However, I'm using PC and tabbing through people means you might get to them just a little to late. Advice/experience welcomed~

/assist <monstername or "Bt" if only one moster is there or "t>
That targets whomever has hate.

well wasn't meaning only one person taking damage but more so of facing monsters with some nasty AoEs that bring 1/2 the alliance down to yellow HP or something to that extent or even simple things such as paralynaing people of other parties quickly

Sadly, there really isn't a greatly effective way to do that. I can type pretty quickly, but the people with really long/or complicated names(looking at you, TakuMcMouthful) is a lot harder to get their name out in a pinch. You can try macros, but that's a waste of space usually.

Usually you'll mainly stick to the members of your party and let the healers in the other parties do their jobs. You can help out, but unless you have a really horrible alliance setup(or just shitty healers) you shouldn't need to do a ton of healing for non-party members. Usually by the time you've healed up your party and can start healing another party(I'm hoping this is what you're doing), that party's healer should have done most of it themselves. The only ones I really pay attention to are the main tanks if they're in another party; everyone but then that's whm's job anyways.

The best advice I can give is to utilize typing commands on your pc. Especially if I'm in the non-tank party in an alliance, I've got /target Tankname usually pretyped before we start a fight so that if I need to throw a fast cure or a paralyna or something at someone to help out, their name is in my chatlog and it's as simple as arrow up and hit macro.

I'd say just have a good idea of your alliance at the start. If you know certain melee are going to get slammed or that a certain AoE will chew up certain parties more than others, just have their names pretyped or get into the habit of typing your spells in a tight spot and you'll be able to outside cure more effectively.

/ta someoewithstupidlongnam<tab> ftw

or better

/ta som<tab>

If you use Compact Keyboard setup;

Go into Config -> Misc 2 -> Key Assignment / Movement. Assign Menu/Target Cursor Up to T, and Menu/Target Cursor Down to G

This will let you scroll up and down the alliance list with the T and G keys.

For extra fun, you can set Menu/Target Cursor Left to Q, and that gives you an opposite direction TAB key.

i know this work when targeting ppl in alliances

type /ta "1st 3 letter of thier name" <tab>

you well see the member name on the list

I'd be very wary of relying on scrolling or targeting for whms. Anyone in a high-lvl scene is going to be using equip macro's and blinking their character. The best way imo would be to practice typing fast so you can cast spells without relying on targetting.

Not only does the person you're casting on need to not change gear, but as you're tabbing to them everyone needs to keep the gear on until you've tabbed passed otherwise your tab will reset onto your own character.

It's for this reason I try to never change gear while tanking on PLD in alliance. I actually have two entirely separate macro sheets for Paladin: One that swaps gear, used for single party stuff, and one for alliance fights that does not swap gear at all.

On PC/PS2 you can bind your up and down buttons on your controller to cycle members.

You can actually bind them to keys also but it only works on compact keyboard settings. It's in the part of the config where you can remap keys.

For the bigger alliance fights, I tend to make two /target macros for two tanks. Macro Target followed by Macro Cure. It works out pretty well. For everyone else who's gear swapping, well they can die.

This is what I do but, you have to press "<space> <tab>" before you fight to get all the names loaded in into memory from your ally, if you don't do that sometimes the name will not be updated on list.

I've always used </ma "Cure I~V" "Tank Name Here"> in a macro. that way there are no worries about someone gear swapping and you curing yourself, and wasting mp. If you're a whm outside main tank PT, I'd stick your highest cure in a macro with main tank(s) name in a macro slot or two.

As far as stats effect spells outside of your party, just gotta tab around and do your best, really, or type in the spells yourself.

Get a controller for your PC, it helps SO much.

i agree with this one, it makes life much, much, much easier than having to tab through 18+ things to finally get to the dead/dying person.

usually each party has some type of whm/healer, so your normally only focused on your party anyways.

I generally use a combination of three methods:

1. Set up target macros for the two or three main tanks, if you're not in the tank party;
2. Use <tab> and first three name letters; and/or
3. Just type the names into a target command.

There is no ideal solution - but each party in an alliance should have someone with healing capability in it, and those people should be primarily responsible for healing people in their party. I also have a few practices I try to follow:

First, I always talk to the alliance leader and make sure what my role is. If it is to keep the tanks up and to hell with everyone else, so be it - but then I also make sure everyone else knows that too, so those with /whm can keep others cured.

Second, in the absence of non/pt-tank curing duty, my pt comes first. After that, if I can keep the healers in the other parties healthy I'm gonna do that.

Third, I try to figure out which non-tank is consistently getting a lot of damage (we call them "MP sinks") and, if I have a free macro key available, I may create a target macro for them.

I've been the only whm in alliances before. It's not fun, unless there are good non-whm healers in the other parties or unless most members are good at hate/damage control. Even then, it's not necessarily easy. I remember one time in particular, going for Uggly Pendants, where I was the only whm. I spent my time raising people and desparately trying to get at least 200 mp so I could keep people going. Decidedly that was one of my least fun whm times.

All the best,
Fire

I /target <name> and cure 5. It's easy that way. I also type pretty fucking fast; but you can also use the tab method. /ta ko-tab-up-enter. Up will take you to the bottom of the list. Each player you've interracted with during this online session will be listed in alphabetical order by their name after the auto-translate words. I do that for long names. Most times, if it's someone quick like dynamis /target Darkseph. "Cure 5" go! ^.~ That kinda thing. Though, I did the same for the Shen fights the other day and it worked out great. Even when not in party I'd watch the log and quick cure. I do it in dynamis too. I guess it's just something you get used to I guess.

Edit:

For 360/PS2/Controller. You can just use the control pad to select anyone in alliance. I do this over anything else when I'm playing on my 360 (let my little brother play on ps2).

Same here, but I got a PS2 controller adaper for my PC since I started on PS2. You have to be pretty slow (or just unlucky) to be thrown off by equip change macros. It does nothing for targets outside of the alliance, of course, so hitting left/right on that same pad does basically the same thing as tabbing.
