So, I currently have whm sitting at 38, I got the teleport quests all done, and I"m thinking of taking it higher perhaps. I like subbing blm for warp and all that and I think that if I level my skills up whm won't be horrible for farming and I can always telewhore.

Is there much call for Whm's in the upper levels on Quetz? I started this char last year, got him to 30 and quit 2 months in. I got him 8 levels since I started back up, and am having a pretty good time.

I guess what's your thoughts? I should just unlock ninja shouldn't I?

There's always room for white mages. If you enjoy the job, keep taking it up; every job has it's uses in endgame, some are more "useful" than others; but few jobs are more useful than WHM.

Well just from browsing some of the endgame recruitment threads, there is usually a need for mages however for the most part that would be for linkshells that are doing sea mainly.

WHM is always a handy job to have at 75 though, you can do many KSNMs, there's never an NM fight you wouldn't be needed for and even though it isn't the most enjoyable job in my opinion, it is nice to bring to events where you'll need sneak/invis/raise3. You save yourself gil, as well as xp in case of deaths.

The only downside might be that if you're after merits, WHM isn't as popular as say NIN/BRD/RDM/WAR/MNK.

WHM works well for merit cannons, it just takes more MP management than with a RDM.

It's also one of the few jobs where you really only need a single sub job. Subbing BLM or SMN is fine for all situations, you almost never need to sub anything else.

I don't know how much endgame stuff I want to do when I get high level, but I do know there are a lot of high level quests I want to do and help people out with things, which is why I like whm.

So finding a party, and being useful shouldn't be hard for a whm. Then I'm excited.

WHMs still fare reasonably well in merits. With a BRD we can keep up pretty nicely with a RDM main healer (not as efficiently, but still perfectly respectable).

I personally preferred /BLM over /SMN for most things except a few end-game events. With WHM solo you will want to eventually invest in /NIN but you can still kill EP's and whatnot with a mage sub.

Edit: WHMs are also the only job with access to Stona.

Don't listen to these newbs, lvl nin to 37 and go Whm/Nin all the way to 75 by meleeing. IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO PLAY WHM.

Yeah, healers are almost always in demand for everything. There will be the occasional time when a bunch of healers are all looking for a party at the same time, but usually you'll get invites significantly faster than most other jobs.

There is some merit to your strategy.

It was actually a joke. Be good at being a Whm and I won't have to kill you. Just stand in the back and threaten to not cure anyone who bitches at you.

Yeah... and don't poisona melee so poison can whittle down their 1200HP and keel themz!

I know it was a joke, but if I ever need to solo a quest or kill something, I imagine my enhancing needs to get up a lot or I'll have to sub ninja and buy warp cudgels :)

/ma "Regen" Myrrh

Though I ever so do like typing out spells. I guess when I have to switch equip more later I will have to switch back to my macros...

Do you have erase?

If so you're good to go, and remember to Regen the paladin. A good whm with the right pld can just share cure duties of cure II with the magic of regen.

Ninjar: Don't type out the spells. Macro the important ones like erase then enfeebles. Have a whole page to cures I would think with /ma "Cure <insert #>" <p2>=<p5> respectably.

You don't need to do a lot of equip swaps really, the few you do are easily handled in macros. There's not a lot of spells that get enhanced by gear you wouldn't be wearing full-time anyways, so there's not many reasons to change gear. Most of those spells you would change gear for, the gear is 70+, so you can wait to get it. Healing magic skill is entirely useless unless you get off on barely higher cure 5 numbers; +MP is really the way to go for most exp parties; then a bunch of +HMP for when you rest, +haste is good too. Once you hit 70, Blessed gear is awesome; pants and hands are pretty much the best options in the game right now; the body and feet are great alternatives if you can't afford a nobles or get rostrums.

Oh, and try to have dark/light staff when you hit 51; there is absolutely no reason aside from e-peen to have the HQ's too, so buying both NQ's will run you about 100k total at current prices.

Yes I do have Erase, it was only 10K.

What's there to macro about erase? its easy as heck to type and I spend less time typing someone's name then I do trying to target them, I guess sometimes I do the roaming target and don't keep it on the mob, but I do have the sheets of cure macros.

I guess the 6 or 7 second wait you have between cures, I have just have to have something to do in. If all I'm doing is holding down CTRL and waiting to tag the 4 key again and heal my tank, its not that much fun. My enfeebling is near maxed, so that's nice, I do need to get my divine higher.

edit: I guess I just type a lot, and I do a lot of Powerleveling of random groups while I wait for a party to pick me up. I think I went through 3 groups in Garliage the other day before I finally got a party of my own. So for three hours I did nothing but type spells, and let me tell you. You get pretty quick and I kinda enjoy it. Thanks for the reply though romperstomper. OH and just so everyone knows: If you type out part of someone's name in party, hit tab, then up arrow, and enter.. yeah, their name is at the bottom there. Just make sure you don't do a ROm because that wont' work but Rom will, of course romperstomper is not too hard like some names I've had to type

Honestly don't worry about divine unless you plan to banish a lot. Once you get to ToAU zones you don't have to worry about skilling up divine in parties you can do that in besieged.

I forgot to say have your -na spells macroed. That is a HUGE help. Also you're 38 so you're fighting crawlers mostly having erase macroed to get rid of slow on melees help the kills go faster. I mean it's not needed, but I am sure it would help to have it macroed.

Edit: When you ding 40 make sure you haste the tank. That is something that helps so so so so much.

some of my -na spells are macroed but not al. I'm excited for haste, I can tell you that. I also think I might run my cooking up to around 30 just so I can have pineapple drinks :).

Thanks for the advice, if you have anymore toss it in here. :)

You don't need all of them macro'd, I only have one slot for -na spells and another for erase. I just change the -na spell depending on what I'm fighting and if I need another one, I just leave my magic menu on the appropriate spell for quick casting.

My cures and status cures are generally of the form:

/ma "whatever spell" <stpc>
/equip
/equip
etc.

If I have my main target on a mob, then the sub-target cursor will default to me, then I can hit F2-F6 to target the appropriate party member if needed, and hit enter. (Can also tab around to any player nearby, in party or not.) If I have my main target on a player (usually only do this if they're outside the party or if I'm gonna repeatedly cast spells on the same person), then the sub-target cursor will default to whoever I have targeted, and I just hit enter.

It works better for correctly targeting spells than targeting them first, then using /ma "whatever spell" <t> - because if they equip swap between when I target them and when I hit the macro, the spell tends to end up aimed at me instead. :P

Granted, typing out the spell and their name by hand will always make sure it lands on the right person (provided you spell it all correctly), but it doesn't allow for equip swaps (well, you could hit a macro *to* equip swap during casting, but that's a little clunky), and it's usually slower. I typically only do it for healing people outside my party and then, only if it's easier to do that than to tab around and target them.

As far as keeping skills capped, WHM's a job that can actually get away with a certain amount of laziness in this regard. Divine is lol, enhancing you have to go out of your way to skillup anyway (and it doesn't help much besides barspells and stoneskin), healing has a fairly negligible effect. That just leaves enfeebling, which is a. easy to skillup (use Dia 1 on every mob; repeatedly if you've got nothing else to do and MP to spare) and b. often not needed (if you party with a RDM, let them enfeeble).

And Besieged works wonders for capping skills. Including healing and enhancing - buffing and curing Besieged NPCs gives skillups like debuffing/nuking high level mobs, which is nice. XD

As for the -na's to macro, the important ones are Erase, Paralyna, Silena, and Stona. The rest (Poisona, Blindna, Cursna, Viruna) are generally not particularly crucial to remove asap, and you can type them out or choose them from the menu.

(Oh, and in regards to Viruna - it costs 48 MP so don't overuse it. Non-resting frontliners don't need *disease* removed, but they do need *plague* removed. Disease just means you don't recover HP/MP while resting. Plague does that, *and* drains MP and TP. Thus disease can be ignored for anyone who doesn't rest.)
