Whm - Advice

Currenlty I don't have a lot of swap equiptment, but yes I will need to build the macro's in, I think the f1-f5 method might not be that bad of an idea either, I would just have to get used to it.

That was a pretty well laid out advice column I must say.

Vil knows a fuck load about everything.

Another thing is, when you first get Erase and you have to use it because of "Sticky Thread" that slows the tank or for any other reason, I had a hard time seeing it in my log. You might want to change around the font colours of when a mob uses some status effect. I forget what its called but its under Config I think. I changed the colour to a dark green just so I can see it better. You might not have a problem with it and catch it better than I do.

I hadn't done that yet, but I see your point. Generally I try and just watch who it hits on the screen, and then confirm in the log, but changing the colors in the log would help a ton. Good call.

I have most filters on as Whm. Only thing I leave off is status effects. I can easily watch the pt on the side of the screen. Makes it easier to surf the web too.

Must stuff a Whm does in a Pt if they aren't retarded is just Regen > Haste > Regen > Haste > Erase/debuff move > Regen > Haste. Aside from the odd Cure every now and then it's easy.

When fighting things that give slow effects, it's actually more effective to keep up haste. At the very least on the tank. Sticky thread will not overlap haste. Rock that out. ^^

Btw, I did over 1000 damage w/ Hexa strike to a Torama as a 75 whm/nin and can solo Decent challenges and undead even matches. My clubs are 242, evasion 200 thanks to dynamis this week lol. And it was with martial clubs since I'm too cheap for other gear. Torama's are DC at 75. Trust me, you can farm just fine. Duo with a rdm/nin and rule the world.

I'm going to be totally honest with you, and bold for emphasis:

If you enjoy playing any other job more, do NOT level White Mage to 75.

When you're a 75 white mage, it's all you're ever going to be playing in regards to end-game or anything of that nature. I'm being totally serious here, white mage is one of the few jobs in the game that will get you locked in above jobs you'd enjoy playing more. There are a few exceptions, but in general you'll be made to go to things on white mage until you get enough seniority to where you can force other people to go whm instead, lol.

Sure, WHMs are great in endgame.

However, in xp, I think RDM trumps WHM in every way. Generally a WHM will need a RDM or BRD, whereas a RDM can do the job by himself. The philosophy seems to be, "Why invite a WHM + RDM when you can invite a RDM + an additional melee?"

If there were no cure cap, WHM would run circles around RDM in terms of healing ability...and I would love to play the job. But alas, a RDM can heal just like a WHM, but with more MP.

In conclusion, if you like to heal, I would play a RDM.

Not touching this post with a 10 foot pole.

why not its the truth.

Rdm doesn't get regen II+, doesn't have the mp a whm has, no cure V, no erase (unless subing whm), and no nobles tunic lol

A) You've obviously never played or been around a decent whm
B) Brd is awesome for melee's
C) Meleex5, rdmx1 is retarded.

I keep telling people that a good WHM doesn't need convert/refresh to keep up with exp... but no one will listen D:

When I pt with my 25k/hr buddies they pretty much insist on whm over rdm unless there is no other option available and they have to take one.

I should've posted on this a while back. I'm going to do my best to respond to the OP, and not to the thread as it has evolved.

If you want to play whm, play it because you like the job and the responsibilities it brings with it. If you play it well, people will always be glad to have you in their parties/alliances/whatever.

Yes, whms are healers. No, whms are not "just" healers.

A whm's job is to keep the party going strong, in as continuous a manner as is possible. That means keeping it alive and healthy, and minimizing downtime if possible.

A good whm can benefit from a refresher, but is not dependent upon one in normal situations. Being able to manage their mp pool well is one of the traits of a good whm. So, yes, refresh is nice. But it really is not addictive.

whms bring things to parties that no one else really can, such as Cure V's, Raise III, Stona, etc. But to my mind, the thing a whm really brings is a focus on the health of the party as a going concern, and the ability to do so, better than any other job. There's also no confusion as to what the whm's role will be, like there can be with other jobs. And I like that.

I've devoted a lot of time trying to be the best whm I can be. Through skilling up, meriting, thoughtful gear selection, etc., I've at least become a powerful whm. I've also become somewhat faster over time. As to whether I'm good... all my efforts don't make me a great whm or even necessarily a good one. I hope that I'm at least a decent one. But what makes me better is not my gear or my merits. What makes me better is caring about my job and about the people I'm with.

If you feel the same way, you'll truly enjoy leveling whm up. If not... lol I can't relate so I couldn't begin to give you advice on alternatives. I've never felt a need or even a strong desire to level up other jobs to a high level.

All the best,
Fire

Buffs. I can't stress how important it is to keep them up. Whether it be protect, haste, or barfira, use the appropriate buffs to maintain party efficiency and minimize damage taken. Beyond that, everything has already been stated.

RDM vs. WHM has always been a preference choice. Some like RDM in that they can buff, debuff and cure while giving themselves a refresh and the added convert MP pool. However, a good WHM can still compete in that arena. WHM have a higher level of clear mind meaning more MP recovered while resting, a larger base MP pool and noble's is one of the best healing pieces only available to WHM. If you have a good party, either can flourish and in a bad party, they can flounder too.

Yeah... and don't poisona melee so poison can whittle down their 1200HP and keel themz!

Yes...because now they'll only be regenning 4(depending on which regen) hp instead of 5.

/insert rolly eyes here.

I changed mine to red...but yeah..whatever color so that it catches your attention. I also have a lot filtered so that I don't have to read throught a bunch of useless crap (to me).

And you will hate erase when fighting bats and all the mellee start whining about attack down.
