Well, I felt lazy I guess and did not want to make 2 different message, spank me!

1) WHM, I have never played the mage class (I don't consider DRK a mage class really) and always thouhg MND was the important thing for WHM, but some people seem to disagree. Are they talking out of their ass or is INT more important?

2) I hit 26 on my ranger recently and I was looking at what gear to get, weapons, etc. I guess I have'nt realized, but I can now use Silver arrows, but they don't have the acc. bonus that beetles do. Should I still switch to them or keep using Beetles until I can use the Fang ones? Also, I use arrows just to keep my archery capped when I level. As soon as it is, I switch back to my gun.

Thank you!

Simply put, MND is better for healing, INT is better for nuking.

My RNG is even more wimpy than yours, so I can't speak to question number 2.

MND doesn't affect healing too much; it's relatively easy to hit the cure cap except when you first get a cure spell. MND helps a lot with MND-Based enfeebles, e.g. Silence, Paralyze, etc.

My RNG is also wimpier than yours, but I hear that using gun before level 50 is pointless.

I kind of agree with the RNG level 50 gun bit, although around 36-38 I did have a RNG in pt that was going nuts with a gun. That was impressive.

MND does affect how much you cure for...I could be wrong, but I believe that even if you are capped in healing, the bonuses to MND are added on top of that. A simple test of equipping nothing and casting cure, and comparing it to equipping all MND gear and casting cure will show you what I am talking about. More MND = more hp recovered = more efficient use of mp in regards to healing. This doesn't address mixing and matching equipment. Macroing equipment would seem useful, but I don't know what equipment WHMs tend to toggle.

For rng dump the beetles and use Fang arrows, they are better. I think if you already hit enough, you might want to try silver when appropriate for more damage then switch over to Horn at 29. I learned too much about arrows lvling woodowrking lol.

Ok, for WHM there is NO need for INT whatsoever unless you are planing on casting BLM spells, that being said there is talk that CHR helps with WHM debuffs, it is our second highest trait by a signifigant margin, I have not done any tests on acount of my laziness and plain not caring enough to cast 100 dias and find the average time on an EP or better mob.

As a mithran ranger I switched to silver arrows as soon as they became available, and never had any accuracy issues. Now, perhaps if you're elvaan or galka? The Acc++ may be better for you.

On another note, I tried using serpentine gun and bullets in CN in my early 40's, and was quite unimpressed, Xbow is much more effective IMHO. Gun begins to shine between 50-52 when the musketeer gun (+1/+2) and silver bullets become available (and even then I still like my trust holy/acid/darksteel bolts :P ). Thats my 2 gilz

I did a test with MND, and as a lvl7BST/RDM, when I unequip Justice Badge(MND+3) I cure for 25, when I equip it, I cure for 27...

This is a sorry test, I can Cure for 26 with it on and cure for 28 with it off. Cures differ, a much deeper test would be required.

Actually, it's the same increase. I increased in cure by 2, you increased by 2..

you notice according to him the difference was that he increased when he had it off :p

I dunno...When I have all my mnd stuff on (Garrison Sallet, taru RSE pants, rings, seer's junk with mnd + etc etc) my cures do seem to average for 31-34, and when I dont have that stuff on, my cures only go for 30. But I am only level 34, and my mnd bonus is only +23 currently. 36+23 total, anyway. I'll have to check further into it at later levels, I would assume, but i've personally just been trying to max out my MND as much as possible as a WHM. I'll update periodically if I learn anything knew. Or if I learn anything at all. Lol.

As whm, I never really bothered with mnd gear. While having more mnd will boost your cure spells by a tiny amount, you will get more curing power out of more mp, especially with refresh -- starting with a lot more mp with refresh on will get you a lot more hp per mp spent.

I whole-heartedly agree. I just want to see how high I can get my mnd. lol.

Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it.

As far as using a gun, I've been dealing more damage using an Arquebus then using a bow (about 80 dmg on Mandies, 92 on critical) but I will compare with the power crossbow this week-end and see what result I get.

Make sure you factor in the delay of your gun when you compare it to other weapons. In my opinion, gun is a waist of gil until you hit 50 and get to use silver bullets.

At level 30 I would switch to a Zamburak +1 or a Greatbow +1. From my experience the Zamburak+1 w/ acid and holy bolts will have a higher DoT then the Greatbow+1, but it really depends on what you prefer. The difference is going to be neglegable. You could also use a Military Gun if you want, but the two weapons above will probably out perform it for half the cost.

Yep :)

And a related matter, I still have'nt figure out how total delay and damages is calculated (might be a n00b question, but I never asked before so.. ).

Do you add the delay/dmg of both weapon and ammo or is it some kind of average formula?

I'm not saying I'll use a gun from now on, just that when I swtiched to it recently, I find the damage increase I was getting worth the slower delay. That will probably change soon as more bolts and crossbow are available then bullets and guns. I'll just have to keep testing whenever a new weapon is available :)

As usual, I really appreciate everyone's view on this.

You just add the delay/dmg of the weapon and ammo together.
