Hey everyone I'm just starting up with this FF and my roommate will be playing too. We'll play together as much as we can up to 75. Basically gonna 2 man up to 75 most of the time.

I'm going to play a WHM. What should he play? And also, WHY?

ninja

reason, best 2 man team generally.

you'll wanna do rdm or brd after that and he'll more then likely pick sam or mnk

IMO, if it is gonna be something NIN, RDM would be a wise choice for Refresh/Dispel/Haste and other various debuffs. Just sub WHM for the -na spells

Well I'm definetely playing WHM, so ninja would be a good choice for him?

putting it very blatently, it goes like this

Healers:
WHM - highest curing power, most dependable in major battles.

RDM - mid curing power, greater acess to offensive spells and a uniquie spell which automatically repleshes MP without healing

BRD - low curing power, very wide acess to supportive spells (in this case being "song") that can enhance anything from attack and defense to resitance and re-raise songs.

------

Tanks: (what you buddy will be)
NIN [Ninja] - very evasive job with the ability to hold two weapons. This job takes to focus of monsters with various support job abilites and avoids damage with the ninjitsu: Utsusemi, which creates shadow images negating attacks

PLD [Paladin] - Very defensive job mastering a sheild. This job keeps the monsters attention with numrious job abilites and few spells, staying alive with defense, vitality and equipment with psyical and magical damage reduction.

SAM [Samurai] or MNK [Monk] - These are damage dealing jobs, but more then half the time can substitue as tank jobs for alot of enemies. samurai using a ability called seigan to anticipate attacks while sometimes countering them. monk uses a ability called counterstance which drops your defense to next to nothing but granting a very high coutering chance. both jobs haveing a evasion rating of B+ and samurai having a parrying rating of A.

These combos being your best duo, imho.

Bolded for emphasis because people keep offering other jobs lol.
Ninja is the only way to go with a WHM duo partner.
Faster access to Haste, and gets Erase.

With PLD, you need a RDM for Refresh/Dispel more than the other abilities.

With Mnk/Sam, you need a Rdm for MP enough to heal the dmg they take.

Thank you lol. If I don't like WHM could always switch to RDM anyways.

Well, just throwing my two cents in because my first job was whm, and I wish it'd been rdm instead. It's just so much more useful.

NIN for sure. Can tank while still dealing a moderate amount of damage. At 74+, MNK or SAM subbing Ninja might be a bit more efficent, but for the long haul any squishy DD job is gonna take too much damage for you to duo constant chains.

Another nice thing about WHM + NIN is that if you do decide to party, you don't have to seek out too many more pieces.

You forgot SCH ;)

What he said. To add to what's already been said, NIN also has access to rather good enfeebling magic and gets its tier II enfeebles rather early on as well which will help greatly since WHM enfeebling skill is rather low.

You forgot SCH ;)
SCH gets no haste spell, not as good for duoing unless you're manaburning.

Side note: If your friend choses to go NIN while you level WHM, he'll have to level to 30 twice, once on any random job to get access to advanced jobs and then a second while leveling NIN to catch up to your WHM. Since that will likely be the case and you always duo, you can level RDM the second time around and decide which is a better job for the two of you.

Yea Lavi. Have him level War to 30 first, then take ninja up. You both gotta have sub jobs anyway, he may as well take his subjob to 30 since he needs a job there anyway.

Have your room mate play Dark Knight :spiteful:

Nothing like a few Souleaters to get that Healing Magic buffed up ;)

For sheer duo goodness, if the WHM+ thing doesn't suit you, I'd also point out that Beastmaster is a great option. My buddy and I did BST duo to 75 and it was a blast. You'll likely want WHM to 37 as an available subjob anyway, so at least those WHM levels won't go to waste if you decide you don't enjoy it.

If you really are serious about taking WHM up to 75 by duoing with your friend, you might want to consider using SCH as a sub. You get a couple Job Abilities that will extend your MP pool (White Grimoire, Conserve MP, Sublimation, and I think at least one other that I'm forgetting) which will decrease downtime. Just a thought.

You forgot SCH ;)

I'm not sure if I'd recommend a SCH in a duo set up. Especially if other person plays neenjar, no haste =/

At later levels you just phalanx, stoneskin and enspell them. My utsu recasts are up again before stoneskin drops.

And what do you do until then? SCH just isn't as effective for duoing. That doesn't mean the job is bad.
