KEEP THE SCH LOVE ON ASURA NEWBIE

lolHelloLoverBoyHow'sChiimi? Anyhow, if Ninja is the first thing your friend takes up... Well, really I hope he's ok with farming. You need money to be a good ninja. Shit, you need money to be a ninja at all.

Money and space.

MNK is a very good job to duo with also. My girlfriend and I duoed our MNK and DNC very easily (could chain 5 every time without a powerleveler) into the 50s before we started getting parties in Aht Urgahn. High HP and strong melee power makes it a strong job when in low-man situations.

As many people mentioned NIN is a good job for duo also, and if you party NIN + WHM is a good solid core of any group, just grab some melee and a refresh and you're good to go.

More useful for "healing" than BRD.
Not really. BRD would be able to perform very well as a main healer in a duo group with NIN because there would be a smaller need to heal. The two jobs combined get access to all enfeebles which would cut down on a majority of the need for cures. Add to that fact, BRD also has march (a weaker haste) and can do a second buff likely to be either another march or minuet(attack song) depending on the situation. In reality, BRD reduces the neccessity to heal in the first place while a SCH would increase the need for healing due to lack of haste.

Ha, tried RDM, I like it better. :P Ninja still best route? Or would MNK, PLD, or something else be better?

Nin is always a great job. Pld might be more "fun" but takes more work. Ninja is so easy to keep up.

If you really are serious about taking WHM up to 75 by duoing with your friend, you might want to consider using SCH as a sub. You get a couple Job Abilities that will extend your MP pool (White Grimoire, Conserve MP, Sublimation, and I think at least one other that I'm forgetting) which will decrease downtime. Just a thought.
well he just starting out so my guess he won't have access to sch. Beside sch not got ti good for whm till 60 is it not?

First off welcome to the rdm you will have a blast. Secondly nin is probably the most self sufficient job in the game very low maintenance job.

However I would make it clear make sure he like the job, because the worse thing you can do is level a job you do not like as your first job. Also, what people kinda forgot to mention is that ninja not a starting job. so be best start off with mnk and you start with blm till you hit 18 then do your sub jobs quest now level war/mnk and whm/blm to 30. At this point he going have start over with ninja and use war as his sub, this when you level rdm using rdm sub. Blm and Whm are best two sub jobs for Rdm. Whm better for healing but both will be needed at 75.

Whm/Nin & Thf/Nin for most things.
Whm/Sch & Sam/War for merits.

It's what I do most of the time. Whm + Thf combo will in most cases allow you to duo really effectively, as well, it's a solid light skillchain.

Whm + Sam on Imps nets you a decent 10k - 15k an hour. Which ain't too shabby for just getting up and going.

His friend wants to be a NIN, that's another lvl30 requirement, so I don't think that'll matter too much to him.

His WHM would get Light/Dark arts at 20, and that reduces casting time, recast time, and MP cost by 10% (for the appropriate spell/Art). He'll also get Penury at 20 too which reduces the cost of a spell by 50% at the cost of a Stratagem charge. At 50, he gets Celerity which reduces casting by 50% at the cost of a Stratagem. At 70 he gets Sublimation, which can get anywhere between ~180 and ~282MP back (at lvl75) depending on race. There's also Conserve MP at 50, and MP bonus at 60 too.
