This isn't a flame on WHMs, it's a flame on the WHMs that I've had in the past 3 parties, that would heal fine, but I've been silenced, paralyzed, and petrified for 50% to 75% of a fight spamming for help, with no response except for Cures and "WTF WERE YOU DOING TYMON?!" at the end of the fights, usually after a death.

My one sentence. PAY ATTENTION. Don't just hold your fingers on your Cure macros and stare at the party HP/MP window. Text, as annoying as it can be, can and often does save your life.

Multani: This is not a flame on my last PT, Multani, you rock.

Onzozo is a good test of WHM skill. Try doing it with BRD sub. =p
A little trick about that place. Cockatrice got no AE. Turn your sound up and get real close. You can actually hear the status affects.

Some effects such as disease does not show up in text and really helps when party members type it if they need it. Sometimes you miss some effects in text especially if the mob is bad at spaming that shit. In which case you need too type it too get the WHM attention if they do not see it.

We do not sit back with our hands over the macros half ass paying attention if thats what people are thinking. You read text, then look at Health points, then look up and see whats going on in the party then back again. You try too pay the most attention too the health points and judge what cure spell too use and glance at the text here and there. If the monster is hitting hard then pretty much you, the whm are looking at the health points and worried about keeping the tank or whoever is getting hit alive. Text is kind of secondry in those kind of conditions. Plus as whm you can not macro everything so you go too your spell menu and try too highlight the right spell that cures paralyze, disease, or whatever else and keep it there. Its alot of work compared too stand there and watch who you go after in a skill chain.

Mp is also a factor, when you reach a point when you need too really conserve it then certain things become less needed. You try too keep the tank alive at all costs at that point and when protect goes away when all you have a 100 mp left then don't expect the whm too cast it right there.

From what you were saying, sounds like you had some horrible whms and I don't blame you for being pissed. I typed the top part too explain the job and what we go through.

It doesn't say you recieve disease maybe but you should know what Mob attack causes disease. Or you should learn it quite quickly. Those status affects don't just fall from the frickin sky. If my PLD gets hit with flame breath I hit them with viruna at the end of the battle.

The best way to know is visual, sound and of course to know the mob itself. The mobs that actually uses status effect attacks are pretty limited, also in your log should show when the mob readies their attack, and most of them are pretty straight forward names. I always try to research before attempting to fight an unknown mob,

I was using disease as an example.

Don't forget the coeurls there too, they drived me insane when once I had an exp PT there with 3 parties in camp -.-;; was never sure wich one was using Blaster or Chaotic eye, so I had to wait 1-3 seconds to see the effect on the tank, and of course, i had to stay very close.

You can filter that out now though... works great.
