Who ARE you? (Midgardsormr/Quezi..ques...Wilfred Fizzlebang merge)

On a semi-related note, but the other way around, a common misconception about FFXIAH is that it shows all characters. This misconception hurt a few people I know. They checked Quetz, saw no character with their name, and assumed their name would be free. But characters only show up on FFXIAH if they bought or sold something on the Jueno/Whitegate/Tav auction house. All those thousands of mule characters that people have that have never left their starter city will never show up. And it's especially frustrating to lose your name you've had for 7 years (on your main character with a dozen level 75 jobs) to someone's stupid mule.

Well, that makes me feel a bit better, that it was actually a character and not a mule :)

She quit long ago. This sorta clears up the fact that old names on inactive accounts still have the reservation. Welcome Ginny from Midgard

high, my name is Fillupurcup, i enjoy long walks on the beach, drinking beer, smoking copious amounts of marijuana, storing my great axe in which ever crevasse it created in my fallen foes, and helping small orphaned monsters find good homes. I am usually down to help with any battle or mission i am capable of entering. nice to be meeting you quezicantspellit people.

Yeah, the "Koren" I lost my alt's name to doesn't appear to have been around since early 2008, based on FFXIAH activity (was clearly someone's main).

GMs were letting people change names that didn't like what they picked =D

Nishida -> Nishidakun -> Obscure.

Currently Obscure on Quetz. :D

I thought the GMs "couldn't do name changes." How does one get such an advantageous event to occur? A friend of mine has been Q_Qing over his name for a while.

Good point.. I've been saying "Midgar" since I started.. People are lazy, and I don't deny it.

@Tickyhead on mobile so can't quote.

I think GMs in this case are a bit more helpful since so many people were forced to change names.
Some like Nishida above just took a name quickly so they could start playing only to later on regret the choice.
On a new char you just delete it and start over, this char however has months perhaps even years of work spent on it and was forced to rename because it was forced to move.

You if you start regretting the name you picked after playing with it for years, well tough luck.

My LS leader was upset she had to change her name and didn't like what she changed it to. She petitioned a GM and found out that they created a policy for the world merge. If you changed your name upon the merge you were allowed one freebie within a week (or something to that effect).

That's good. I know they also do that for messed up names on "I got hacked!"..A friend of mine, Yedythe, had some of her chara names messed up after her account got restored. (A mule name had landed on her main, and her main name was on that mule.)

I told her to call a GM, explain the situation, and ask them if they could throw a rename card at her account so it could be fixed. The GM did that. She lost that mule's name but small price to pay.

Anyway, me and Shadowneko were lucky. I'd made sure with the help of a friend but Neko didn't have a friend to sit on his name for him. We haven't lost one chara name on our account. Not one. (kethary, skif, rojer, dragoncat are our mules btw. All fine.)

I've been telling people a lot. I dno if other are. I'm really enjoying the new blood around these boards. It was kinda quiet for awhile.

I've been telling people (tho my main social is kinda quiet) myself. But some of my friends found it themselves. ^^ I told my friends in CS as fast as I could, I also told Northstar/Kimina because of the calendar. (She had to change her name.)

It was brought up on DV (www.ffxionline.com) during discussion about the world merge. Midgardsormr had no equivalent to qcdn that I am aware of. In fact I would say Midgardsormr hasn't had a sense of cohesive community as a whole since around the time of ToAU. (The 'dunes culture' as I used to put it, of 'anything that doesn't get us killed goes/don't tell me how to do my job/don't discuss strategy/lolEverything' became extremely entrenched when meleeburn became the new norm and the prevalence of PLs at pre-ToAU level exploded in response to everyone wanting to get out of the sucky xp levels as fast as possible. A huge influx of new players (Xbox360 release) who never knew anything different contributed as well.)

Of course, I can't speak to endgame-specific community, but I suspect that was pretty LS-specific for the most part.
