I did not manage to snag one, sadly. Who did though?

I'm not saying a did but I also wouldn't say if I did.

So really you're saying something but not saying anything, so what was the point?
That said, I did not get in this round either.

:o

I didn't get one and neither did my girlfriend. We do, however, know someone who did and are currently gathering materials needed to perform a curse.

I couldn't possibly tell you if I got in or not... *wink*

I can however tell you my GF did.

in case anyone was wondering we both filled in the application with more or less the same details. will play on PS3 and PC (average/good spec PC), EU based, 16Mb/s DSL, etc... nothing out of the ordinary.
only difference really (other then gender) my GF put low playtime whereas I put mid-high.

To those of you who got in or know someone that did, did you sign up before the email about signing up came to your inbox? 'cause at that time it was possible to check "PS3" and "PC" beta at the same time, which I did, and I'm hoping that won't affect my chances of getting in the PC beta :(

If SE reads these forums and sees you saying you're in Beta they'll likely ban you from it for breaking the NDA

Here's the thing Wes, unless we actually GIVE info about the Beta, we haven't broken any agreements. THe info that the beta is launching w/e is already common knowledge. Shit, anybody can google it and find that out now. But as long as we dont give any info about it, we can't get in trouble. Simple.

*Shrugs* Whatever. I'll go by that then, never saw that posting. :o

I'm all for ya'll spilling the beans, I just wanted to be a smartass 8D

and I may be wrong but I don't think SE reads this forum.

All I know is if they do read this forum, I am gonna toss this out there for them... I upgraded my PC to a 3.4Ghz Quad core, 4GB DDR3 PC10666, and a 1Ghz GDDR3 nVidia GT240 just so I could handle FFXIV at its best... and they still overlooked me..

It's just closed beta.

I had originally written a long response, but then when I hit the "post" button the site didn't exist. So I'm just gonna say this;

They won't go after you for saying you got in to the beta. As logn as you say good things about the game it is good publicity. They won't go after you unless you say bad things, as that could hurt them financially. They expect information to be leaked, hence why they only open up 10% of the game at the start, which is probably what we already know about the game save a few things.

If you say good things about the game, its good publicity and can earn them more sales, and they won't start a manhunt.

That being said, you shouldn't leak info about the alpha, as you should still respect the MDA. But they won't start a manhunt and ban you from the alpha if you state you're a beta/alpha tester.

and?

Sanriku, its not about overlooking. They don't choose people by hand, they have an automated script look for certain requirements the devs prioritize. In this game existing players, and send a mail out to them. I'm guessing it works something like this;

First have or is playing FFXI. Filter out the rest.

Then it goes after the other. If 1000 invitations is sent out, perhaps they send 334 out to people with top computers, 333 with average computers, 333 with sucky computers. Among those categories, there's sub-requirements.

All of this being automated and uninfluenced by human input beyond the prefered requirements and ammount of invites to send out.

They didn't "overlook" you, your name simply didn't get picked by the automated script.

Exatly. System specs, etc, isn;t something necessarily they're going by. I can tell you, Sanriku, my system specs arent that high, yet I made it in, so that's proof right there that I didn't make it by that. It was done by a computer, and I highlydoubt SE is trying to piss you off by not picking you :o

They come in phases. So you might still get in. Most PC gamers will be able to run this game, so the specs isn't that big of deal to them. My computer can play crysis virtually maxed out. What they do want are very popular guild/linkshell leaders that have pretty big websites/blogs etc. Those type of people will play the game A LOT and give advertisement.
