Ok so i was extremely bored while mowing my lawn today and thought of this for some reason.

A race

75 Ninja / Thief

vs

75 Thief with Striders

Starting point Tele - Vahzl

Finish Line - Fei' yin

(Just turned Night time)

Night time the whole way so you have the Ninja with his 25% movement speed the whole way and his flee intervals every 5 minutes.

Vs

A Thf with THF AF feet (Increased Flee duration) and flee every 5 minutes but with a macro for Striders while in normal run (12% speed)

Now if they both took the exact same route who would get to the Fei' Yin zone first?

I think i gotta go with Ninja.

Like I said I was mowing the lawn, I daydream alot when doing yardwork, suprised I haven't lost an arm in the mulcher yet.

barring variables like mobs getting in your way or a mistep in beaucidine you're right. Based on numbers at night time the nin would take it.

How much faster is flee compared to regular running speed 3x?

Yeah the NIN wins, but not by much.

Let's assign 1n (n being a generic term for 1 unit of distance) for the amount of distance covered in 1 minute at regular running speed. The NIN will have half a minute of 3x speed followed by 4.5 minutes of 1.25x speed.

The THF will have .75 minutes of 3x speed and 4.25 minutes of 1.12x speed.

The NIN will cover 7.125n distance in 5 minutes.

The THF will cover 7.01n distance in 5 minutes.

If my math is screwed up please forgive me, it's nearing 4 AM I'm working and slightly tired.

with thf using flee and a nin with af feet, after the thf loses the flee effect, the nin will eventually pass them. its actually one of those things i pay attention to. if thf uses flee, nin could use flee to keep up with the thf. nin flee will wear off first, however, the thf will have its wear off soon after. nin will surpass the thf because its able to go 2x as fast even with the thf wearing striders

I've raced ninja's (Without striders) from Vhazl crystal to Batilla Downs zone .. From what I've noticed, ninja's gain a little more ground, but was never far enough ahead of me that I couldnt' catch up to him, and pass, when flee was up.. I assume with the Striders, Thief would win.. Can't say for sure, but I think it would be close.

If I am not mistaken each Game day is roughly 57 minutes, 36 seconds.

Half a Day(Night) gives you roughly 29 Minutes of running at 125% speed on ninja. Where thief gets 24 Minutes, 30 seconds running at 112% speed, and 4 minutes 30 seconds of flee time, runnign at 200% speed.

Ninja: 29 Minutes @ 125% = 36.25 Game units/Night.
Thief: 24.5 Minutes @ 112% = 27.44 Game units/Night Walking(Striders) + 4.5 Minutes @ 200% = 9 Game units/Night Fleeing. Total: 36.44 Game units/Night.

Every 5 minutes:

Ninja: 6.25 Units/Minute
Thief: 6.26 Units/Minute

Winner: Thief

I think the THF would win...mainly because the AF boots. In that kindof race they'd be able to flee twice, which gives a HUGE advantage, so..

Completely unrelated, I've often wanted to have a slow race in Ballista. Get a RDM to Gravity you and your competitor, don full Dusk gear, turn off auto-run, then see how many cases of beer you can drink before you make it from one zone border to the other.

Maybe have a BLM in the zone on invis, ready to ambush you with Stun and/or Bind...

Thief: 24.5 Minutes @ 112% = 27.44 Game units/Night Walking(Striders) + 4.5 Minutes @ 200% = 9 Game units/Night Fleeing. Total: 36.44 Game units/Night.
Phraust, maybe I'm just missing it, but where are you accounting for the nin/thf's flee time?

Its not 2x as fast... its 13% faster. Flee is 2-3x as fast in relation to normal speed.
strider boots=12% movement increase nin af boots=25%movement increase

12% minus 25%= roughly half.....so yes, it is 2x as fast....kthxbai

Deci's right.

THF with striders = 112% movement speed
NIN with AF = 125% movement speed

If the NIN was moving twice as fast as the THF, then the NIN would be going at 224% movement speed. Not the case.

The NIN AF offers twice the increase of Striders, but does not make the NIN move twice as fast as a THF with Striders.

you missed the original point...if anyone was able to move twice as fast LITERARLY, then thfs flee would be useless. they have double the increased speed i should say to make it more clearly for people to understand

I'd say NIN  /justtobecool
