after reading all this.. I'm going to start screen capping everything I loan, borrow, etc...
conversations, and everything. .this is ridiculous..
If he trusted him enough to buy it for him expecting returned gil.. then that's alot of trust. That's never been a cheap item as far as I know. It's only acquired from a bcnm60 in Quicksand Caves.. and not a real common drop. So... yeah. not easy to come by. If Fitz was kind enough to buy and deliver to wait for pymnt.. that's very nice of him..
If that be the simple short of it, regardless if fitz took an extended break or even quit, on his return that gil should have been paid back. If he doesn't have the gil the item should be returned.
if what Rhinegold says is true, then why is he even willing to pay the gil he's offered..?
I know a few of my friends have quit the game. When one returned, though he said I could sell his gear, I returned what I had. I don't think I sold any except for 2 or 3 easily replaced items. No questions asked. I respect my friends that way..
However, something tells me that not all the details are given here.
basics are one of two:
1) either Fitz bought the item expecting to be reimbursed...
2) Fitz bought it for Rhine as a going away present...
either of those two options in my opinion warrant the respect of having at least the gil reimbursed if not the item... It's been some time I'm assuming that Rhine has developed some means at making gil, or is able to do a BCNM or two ... camp an NM... It's taking an act of kindness and spitting on it otherwise. It would be unfair to pay the inflated price, but if he can remember the original price, that at least should be repaid.. just a matter of common courtesy.
my 2 gil
edit: spelling, grammar.
addition:
I don't want to change my original post.. but I just read the original post.. Rhine already stated he'd pay back the gil.. if I recall it's 1.4 mil I think that Fitz said he paid for it. Another assumption is that Rhine hasn't paid that... Why has this progressed this far.. Rhine, rather than ruin your reputation, why haven't you paid him back... and if I were you, when you do.. trade it in person, and get a screenie.. This could be very disparaging to your reputation... I know I wouldn't want it hovering over my head.. and I'm curious.. it seemed to me that you didn't take any time to tell him you'd pay him back. I noticed that he still asked for the item instead. In that post you didn't argue that it was a loan at all.. or mention that it was a gift but, instead immediately offered to give the gil. You stated you were devoting your gil to level'ing alchemy.. If I were in your position and didn't want to give the item back I would be focusing all of my time earning gil to return to him..
but all this is just me and my opinion.
