I'd want a static for fun. Knowing I have a group ready for me, that knows how to work together. The xp could be mediocre.

Nothing better then when a Ranger 10,000 miles away knows 'exactly' when you want him to yank hate for SATA without you typing a word. :D

I used to static with two friends of mine. They were fun to level with, but unfortunately, both felt a greater need to level than what I felt, and both felt that the static was sort of holding them back, thanks to some rather bad experiences.

Luckily, I came up with the idea to instead pick a different job (that's not a main job) and we'd static with those jobs instead. All the fun of leveling with friends, with none of the pressure of leveling higher :)

This is how I came to static with my whm. I had a group of friends that loved hanging out. Our mains were all at different levels so we set up a party...each picking jobs that we were somewhat interested in...but were in NO rush to level. We static one night a week...and if we have to miss that night..it's no big deal. It's really all about hanging out with friends. We've been together since level 10 and are now nearing 50.

My blm static is different...though we have certainly all become good friends...we are interested in moving forward and work together to get incredible xp on our three nights a week.

hmm...since this is a thread about statics, maybe this is a good place to ask this. i'm a 36 sam, and i was wondering when you all think i should start looking for a static? i know that around 40, sam's (like alot of jobs) start needing/wanting a static to get exp, so, any advice on the topic would b appreciated. oh, btw, to keep this related to the OP, i'd want it to level a job :D

Umm... both, I guess? I decided I needed a static because it was getting too hard to find good PTs anymore. I would seek for hours without invites, and on the rare occasions I'd get one, the PT would either suck or not even get anywhere (i.e. couldn't find enough people, people have to go, etc...).

Leveling has never been something I did for fun. I have fun with the game by doing quests and missions, and exploring, and stuff like that. Because of that, I've always been a slow leveler. I've been playing since October 29th, 2003. And look at my job levels. This is my first and only (non-mule) character. But there are only so many quests/missions/areas you can explore at low levels. So when I'd find myself with nothing to do, I'd go level for awhile until I found I had a bunch more stuff to do. I reached another of those times when I needed to level, and suddenly had a very hard time doing so. And thus, I had to find a static.

So I do it to level a job. But I level the job so that I can have fun with the game. :)

I join statics to level, that's why I like them. However that doesn't mean I like to xp alot(as in overdo it), infact I only enjoy xping once in awhile. It's a way to xp without worry or less worry of bad experiences making for fun xp sessions. Just because I join static(s) for the main purpose of leveling doesn't mean that I automaticly don't have fun either.

I'm the brd in kiere's mentioned static that I joined up with at I believe 13, I'm now 49 nearing 50. When I saw their 5 person line up and spotted the were lacking a supportive job I took brd 1-14 right away so I could level with them the next week they met up again. So when I first joined them it was to have fun and hang out with my LS. That still is one of the reasons I level with them and plan to continue it. It's still tons of fun to level with the 5 people for me so that hasn't changed, but I do care about getting xp at the same time.

Making progress in this game is a part of the fun to be had. We've always made 4-6k per hour based on the situation of the night while having some beers, making funny jokes, purposely pulling links for adventure(and winning :D ), and other dumb stuff that makes it fun. It's my idea of an ideal static, we're serious about wanting good xp but we can definitely be laid back and just enjoy the evening. Inside jokes such as asking the dragoon to 2hr in a bad situation just make the game great. We also put aside other ingame problems bothering us during this one night of the week, which is great.

So to answer your question of my reason for staticing.

Solely for fun----> Both Success/fun.

Around 50 these will feel almost like main jobs kind of, at least to me, not just sidejobs. To me the early 50s mark a period in the game of more serious xping, but because of the casual atmosphere it will always feel fun from the party wipes to 6k pr/hr.

I think kiere and jender are going to enjoy the static ALOT more at 55 with ballad II though  .

Ive never had a static, but i would like one for both  . It is a sure way to level a job, and I enjoy playing with friends. If you static with people, i hope you are friends with them, or become friends, otherwise it isnt really worth it to be with people you dont like all the time :?

In the end I think that statics are, more then anything, just a means to an end and nothing more. But then again thats how I observe them right now since I'm not currently in a static that has gone out yet. If you want to be in a good party without having to worry about getting someone who doesnt know what they are doing, a static is really the way to go. If you want to get to 75 asap so you can do Dynamis or HNM's, if you want to be able to lvl your job without waiting hours, days and saddly for some ppl months, you will need a good static. And in the end doing it for the fun of xp'ing with a close, or soon to be close, group of ppl really makes this game more fun since you dont have to worry about asshats who are overbearing.

Well if my static actually picked itself up and got going, it would of been for both things. Fun because i know and like everyone who originally were gonna be in it, plus obviously leveling a job. Too bad my static never started :(

I like to static 'cause it gives me free raine over what I wanna do during the Weekday w/o haveing the Problem of my Pld never getting any higher, thus I Craft, BCNM, and Ballista during the week and Static on Weekends

And in my static I make up what I would get during a normal week of partyin anyways so no serious loss in exp to me.

my friend and I made a static to level together with friends, have fun, and get good xp.

RDM is my main, and I can probably speak for most red mages, that leveling in pickup parties can be QUITE a headache. I hate playing with people that whine and don't know their jobs for crap and make me come out of the day with little to no xp or negative xp.

That being said, I xp in static twice a week with my friends. We get really good xp for those two days out of the week and its FUN at the same time. I never waste food on crap parties because I'm not IN crap parties anymore. Now I'm not saying nothing ever goes wrong, cause our thf has died on links before but we get over it and move on.

Anyway, I'll level jobs in pickup parties, but I've had really craptastic experiences for the most part doing so. Nothing quite like wasting time, money, and food on parties like that. Besides, why else do you play the game if not to have fun? I only play to have fun and when it stops being fun, I'll move on.

I can only XP once a week, so having a static allows us to meet at the same time and hit the ground running, maximizing XP in the minimal time allotted.

Not to say I haven't been in some excellent a la carte parties, but that is a rarity. If I went that route, I'd go LFG every week, and get a party after quite some time, if at all...Then try to do that again the following week. Concerning progress, it's just necessary for me to have a static. And with the right group, it's quite fun. :P
