Just a small gripe, no big deal really. I was more just thinking this to myself and decided to post. But anyway, yeah, why do numerous people still refer to XB360, Wii and PS3 as Next Generation consoles? That shouldve stopped a long time ago, upon each of the consoles release. Unless theres some kind of weird paradox going on with some people.

It bugs me a little...

I've asked this same question to myself many times before. I am still confused on what we will call the next Xbox or Playstation. Gen After Next?

For people that actually understand what the "next gen" is it seems silly, but when i'm trying to talk to a dad or mom about an xbox360 or Playstation 3 its easier to just say next gen, because it helps them avoid confusion.

Thats not the actual title, doofus. Considering the project started up after The Two Thrones was released, which happened just weeks after the Xbox 360 hit shelves and well before the PS3, the project title of Next-Gen is deserving.

Notice Im not pointing out titles, Im pointing out the fact that they are calling current systems next-gen. You dont have to try to call me out on things that dont really need to be... Besides, lets take a quick look down at the bottom of the page. You will find this link:

Prince of Persia Next-Gen? March 7, 2007

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasnt the 360 released in 2005? Calling the 360 "next-gen" nearly a year and a half after the system was released isnt exactly news.

Either way, even if they werent calling it next-gen, there are 3 more example links there to look at

"Latest technology" would make it sound better to parent types, imo. Then you don't sound like an idiot if someone with a brain for the stuff is listenin' and you're not tellin' a -small- white lie either.

As far as I'm concerned the next-gen title ends when the product is on the store shelf.

What, do people have to worry about someone "calling them out" on the fact that the consoles are no longer "next gen" when talking to a layman?

Who cares what they're calling it, it's something consistent that everyone knows what they're talking about.

Star Trek: The Next Generation made me giggle after thinking of this thread.

Most (~70%) of parents that come in my store are afraid of the "T" word when it comes to anything but the Wii. Also since there is usually at least one other person in the store (working or customer) that knows what i'm talking about and i highly doubt any of them have thought i was stupid.

People can identify easier with with what they hear the most often. People hear "next gen" a lot more often so it becomes the acceptable title for it. I'm sure the next MS/Sony/Nintendo generation will also be called next gen as soon as it comes out, so it isn't a lie either.

Thats when ign posted the article, retard. Not when Ubisoft actually started the project.

If you honestly don't think they didn't start planning the next Prince of Persia game after they were finished with The Two Thrones, you have absolutely no clue about how the business of sequels and solid franchises work.

Look at StarCraft 2. Do you honestly think the first announcement from Blizzard about it, and the stuff they presented with that announcement was created moments before they came out with it? Especially since even it's Alpha stage still, people are saying it's a pretty solid working game. I'm willing to bet real money that they've been working on it for a couple of years already.

You're a fool.

He's not arguing that at all, he's saying that when they wrote the article, they called it "Next Gen" which is a complete and utter flash word that is used to make things sound nicer than they really are. The XBOX is dead, the gamecube is dead, PS2 is starting to fade. The 360, Wii, and PS3 are CURRENT gen, and they need to start with a new term for that.

It's probably because thats what Ubisoft said to the original source because they still haven't picked out a true title. Thats what I'm getting at, the project has been Prince of Persia Next-Gen since they were spitballing it around most likely. It's not IGN that called it as such.

Skaw, shut the fuck up and stop trying to call me out on shit, calling me a retard and a fool when what I posted completely whiffed over your head, apparently. Read the article, they fucking called it next-gen. How more plain can you get than that, or are you really that fucking dense?

Fuck you annoy the living shit out of me sometimes, not because of your self proclaimed assholishness, because youre so fucking dumb sometimes.

That still doesn't make it right. Neither is the art of thinkin' "keep the world simple for the idiots' sake".

Considering that there's nothing else simple to call them, it's not wrong either.

I really can't believe that there's so many people who get their panties in a bunch over this.

I think we're still referring this as Next Gen due to developers still making games for the PS2, we haven't fully crossed over yet.

The answer is in the 2nd link that was posted in the OP. They call them "next gen" when they take advantage of the new hardware and do something new that wasn't seen last generation.

How about simply PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii? I don't remember ever hearin' someone call the PS2, N64, GC, DC, PS1, etc. next-gen after it was shipped. The reason why is because it didn't happen. They (PS3, 360, Wii) are no longer next-gen, they are this-gen.

One word, stupidity. Why call something, somethin' it's not? If you can't claim ignorance then you have no excuse. However, ignorance isn't even a good excuse here. Everyone and their mom should realize next-gen is never somethin' attainable NOW, ever. Unless someone makes a product named Next-Gen it'll always be that way. Don't exclude yourself from the underwear bunchin' though. You're here posting.

Because saying next gen is easier and simpler; while not being as confusing to laymen about what it is I'm talking about. Yes, it is just protecting the ignorant(and just out of sheer laziness), but they've been called next gen for so long, everyone's in the habit of doing it. Ravic brought up a good point though, the PS2 is still going strong, so there is a clear separation between the generations of still alive consoles. Saying next gen lets you informally refer to specific consoles without having to bother saying each of their names every time you want to make a reference.

Aren't you even one of the people who said that they didn't consider the Wii to be "next gen" because it didn't have the power of the 360/PS3? Wouldn't that therefore create confusion if you refer to it as a current gen console?

Posting in the thread doesn't group me together with you; especially since I'm not the one complaining about people using the term. You're the one one with the painful tie around your balls, I'm the one who doesn't give a shit what they're called as long as it's understandable what they're talking about.

Yes, they're using the term wrong, but it's no where close to as big of a deal as you're making it out to be. It's a weak thing to bitch about, akin to correcting grammar that's perfectly understandable.

Doesn't sound like me.

Sure it does. If you feel the need to post and share your obvious care on the matter you're on one side or the other. Of course you're not grouped with me but you're here all the same. Defend yourself all you want, it's okay, but it wont change a thing.

Your side has the tie too ;) That's why we're here. You probably hadn't bothered to "give a shit" to -think- about though, eh?
