Why is the PS3 a fail?

Well they better :| But so far all I've read was that there'd be extra content for XBox 360 with every game I've read about that's multi-platform. Nothing about the PS3 and how it can download stuff too >.>

M$ is the pioneer in Downloadable Content and they have an established system for it. When Sony fine tune theirs maybe game makers will start making some for PS3's games.

I'm really hyped to see what Downloadable Content will be made for RE5, but that's a long time wait.

The PS3 can download content just fine. It has nothing to do with Sony at this point but with game developers.

The most likely thing is that the next gen consoles will have the PS3's power with the control level of the Wiimote.

The PS3 also supports motion sensing, however. And the games I've used it in (Motorstorm and hopefully soon to be Lair) are a lot more responsive than the Wii games I've played. And it's a hell of a lot more accurate than Wii Sports. I'm not sure if that was due to shitty programming or whatever, but I think you get my point. In the rest of the games we've got in my apartment for the Wii the game seems as though it could've been made just fine without a wiimote. I would kind of like motion sensing to be optional like rumble used to be, honestly. Don't force it on me but it's great to have as an option. For this very reason I prefer Twilight Princess on the Gamecube.

It's a tilt sensor, the most basic and gimmicky form of motion sensing(and six-axis is a gimmick); it's like comparing a tricycle to a car. While the PS3 "supports" motion sensing, and barely at that, almost no games are even going to use the six-axis, so while it could, it won't. Wii sports is a tech demo, Zelda just had the controls tacked on; the only complaints about the controls come from games that don't even demonstrate the controller's capabilities. You're showing unreasonable expectations for perfectly accurate controls immediately, while excusing the PS3 games for not taking full advantage of the console.

So far, the only people I have heard that flat-out(all 3 of you) don't like the Wii's motion sensitive controls are the PS3 owners. Obviously you guys are in the minority(the sales numbers alone prove that); but given how excited the industry is over making games for the Wii, you're going to have to "suffer" through motion controls while everyone else is having fun with them.

Don't like it, that's your choice, but accept that you are in the vast minority when it comes to that opinion.

Wait, what? You don't even know what games I have in my Wii library. Red Steel sucks donkey ass. Elebits is a piece of garbage. First person shooters don't even feel remotely right on the Wii. And where did I excuse a PS3 game? Did I say Motorstorm was great? No, I commented on how I liked its use of the motion sensing as an added option.

Yeah, we're in the minority. I'm also in the minority when it comes to disliking anime, cats, and pop music. Boo fucking hoo? All the sales numbers really prove is that cheap shit sells well. If you're honestly surprised that a game console priced at less than half of its competitor is selling better you might want to look at it again. Hell, the PS2 is still outselling, well, pretty much everything.

And please, stop talking about the industry. You're hurting a Game Development/Design student's heart. You probably don't know anywhere near as much about the industry as you even think you do. Not trying to be mean, but seriously - unless you're working for some big name company I don't even want to hear your opinion on it.

What FPS games have you played? Red Steel sucks, Elebits is boring, but Call of Duty 3 is very good; the controls feel at the very worst as good as a normal controller and that's only if you fail at pointing. The excusing/ignoring PS3's faults is more of a general observation than directly at you, because other people can't even admit that such things even exist and wave that double standard around with pride.

Actually, the PS2 is only outselling the PS3 and 360 at this point; the DS and the Wii are staying at the top of the charts every week except for the week the PS3 came out in Europe. If anything, FUN is outselling power; I'm very sure the price would be a significant factor, if only the Wii was actually sitting on enough store shelves to have parents just pick one up instead of a PS3 because of the price difference.

Yes, obviously I have no clue what the industry is thinking, when just about every major game developer(that isn't owned by Microsoft or Sony) has expressed a big desire to put games out for the Wii. Yes, I'm completely in the dark when I read an interview with those industry leaders and they say they like the wii; the only people who don't seem to listen or even care what those leaders are saying are the PS3 fanboys. Stop acting like only a PS3 owner has any insight into the gaming industry, especially when you guys seem to completely ignore any and all contrary evidence to your opinions.

Bajaratt you really do underestimate a lot of the function of the sixaxis. It can sense being moved up, down, left, right, being tilted or steered. To follow up, both can have perfectly tight and accurate controls(anyone who's tried motorstorm can attest to that).

But the Wii's design alone makes it superior for motion sensor... it was design to be held and waved around, twisted easily and such. If you are going to buy a console based on wanting motion sensor controls, you should get the wii.

Doesn't mean the PS3 doesn't have functional motion sensors in it... however the Wii is a problem for the PS3 in terms of really utilizating it well ... for the very same reason that the PS3 and Xbox 360 is a reason that Wii is going to get shitty graphics for its entire life cycle.

PS3/Xbox 360 -------------------------------------- Wii

<<<<People who place importance on graphics.

People who place importance on motion controls.>>>

The market's been split. Developers with cool ideas for motion controls aren't going to have a big market on the PS3 and developers trying to push the graphics or online aren't going to have a huge market on the Wii.

Any of those games... have to actually SELL consoles to get returns on their efforts. Hopefully the market will never split, I'd hate for the consoles to be generic copies of each other.

By the way, Bajaratt, quit being a total asshole with your smug fun > graphics argument. As if they're mutually exclusive. It's cheap price versus graphics, end of story.

Yes, I'm not a part of the industry. I just read what a few programmers say and make a blanket statement out of it.

Like I said, no point in talking about what the industry thinks unless you're a part of it. Sorry, but just stop. It's an opinionated subject that's going to vary from programmer to programmer. I look forward to developing for the XBox 360 or PS3 mostly because of online and I'd like to take a whack at developing with cell and utilizing it.

The Wii literally is last gen. There's nothing new about it. Motion sensing is not new. Dipshits used the same arguments about the DS being innovative. Touchscreens were nothing new when the DS came out. But a lot of people bought into it for whatever reason.

Do you really want to know why developers are "hyping" over the Wii? It's cheap as hell to develop for and they're going to be getting a lot more money with subpar games out of idiots who bought into the hype. You've got people who want to be creative and try to come up with something new, and you're just not going to get that out of five-year-old technology (it's actually older, but for the sake of this post...). Yeah, sure, graphics "don't matter." But I sure as hell do care about the power of the console I'm developing for, even if it's just so I can have more stuff on screen, better physics, or an overall more complex game. Twilight Princess had a very predictable AI, and it's because the Wii/Gamecube just isn't powerful enough to have anything more complex without sacrificing game length.

Half the people who made Motorstorm hate the PS3 and want to code for the Wii instead. Or so my friend who worked on it said and it's not because of the "cheapness" it's because with the PS3 they were coding for it, then Sony would release a new dev kit and they'd have to make stupid adjustments, that and it's supposed to be overly complicated to code for.

By that same logic, the PS3 isn't next gen either, it's not innovative at all, because multi-core processing existed before the PS3. Innovation does not mean new technology only, it also means using existing technology in a different way; and in that way, both the DS and the Wii are innovative.

Edit: this has all been covered in at least 3 other threads, it's not worth going through another thread when you probably didn't even read the other ones and I doubt you'll actually listen to reason in this one.

Fire, good post.

Can we stop calling the Six-axis motion sensing? lol That's all I ask.

Do you know why it's cheap? It's because it's easier to develop for. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out. We're dealing with dirt old technology.

I'd say underestimating the Wii's online capabilities, functions, and future could lead to a lot of heartache. I'd venture to bet, developers are thinking otherwise on this one. Nintendo is makin' it real clear that they can do everything, game wise not other content like music and movies, the other consoles are doing online. Batallion Wars II is a prime example. 32 players (pretty sure, 16 v. 16?), fast paced, etc. However, it may end up lacking voice chat which, personally, I'd love for it to lack.

Also remember, no game is a best-selling cash hog because of its graphics. Graphics are a small piece of a huge pie.

Hehe, Even if there are online games and such for the Wii the physics models won't be as good as a PS3's or a 360's :P which I think makes a game pretty cool. That's not going to turn me off from the games online with a Wii though, but it'll be something I wish it had more of.

I'd say what's going on more is underestimating PS3's online. Take Resistance for example, a launch game.

For free, you get 40 players at once online, with voice chat, with friends list... and here's an important feature Xbox live DOESN'T have... dedicated servers. Resistance in fact has better online than ANY Xbox live game. For free... The only edge that Xbox Live has is a shitload of more content(mainly arcade games for sale) and unified voice chat.

Of course... when it comes to the Wii...

Don't let me interrupt you though when you explain to me how PS3's free online is a worse deal than paying for online so you can have more voice chat and have your options decrease unless you continue to pay for new maps.

How? They've yet to have an online game released. It's April! They don't even have a built in wired Ethernet plug which is the only way to actually play competitive online or the millions of people who... yanno, don't have wireless routers. To top it all off, they decided it'd be nice to fuck with us for the hell of it, by making standard usb to ethernet adapters not work so you have to buy their proprietary shit. (Microsoft is pretty bad here too... can I say... racing wheel. *cough*?)

Sure there are a few brands that'll work, but when I tried linksys... it didn't. Do you think the masses are going to scour newegg looking for a usb plug that'll work with the Wii? The you think the average Wii customer is waiting, praying for an online multiplayer... or do you think someone who is very interested in online consoles has a 360 or PS3 already?

Also remember, no game is a best-selling cash hog because of its graphics. Graphics are a small piece of a huge pie.

And the only thing PS3 can do Wii can't is render better graphics amiright!?!

It's good that's Nintendo's trying to branch away from the kiddy shit though, right?

hey look! one of those dogs is Katamari! (god that game SUCKED SO MUCH ASS)

It's hard to explain but I think the concept of virtual pets his probably very bad for kids. They should get a real dog... learn about the puppy growing up, how to care for it, ext... the difference between real and not real. It's pretty sad that politicians worry about violent video games, I worry about cuddly video games.

GeoW has best online experience with personal servers fire. I know you said Resistance has 40men online, but GeoW has personal server also. Which is why you experience not one bit of lag. add the better communication of live service and downloaded maps. Not really knocking resistance, its cool. But Gears does have personal server just letting you know 360 does this also ;p Games like ArmoredCore4 online you feel the pain of servers not personalized for the game...
