Why is the PS3 a fail?

Well I was talking really about peer-to-peer vs dedicated servers. I'd think Xbox Live is completely awesome if all the games you're paying to play online had actual servers instead of just matchmaking. When you play your Xbox online you're all playing off of a host Xbox, although I hear Halo 2 or Gears of War(don't remember which) allows you the choice of using 1 guy's Xbox as a server for the others to play on. Of course... all that's JUST to get the same connection quality that Resistance offers without having to sacrifice a box.

It senses motion. Not as good as the Wii-mote. I guess since the Wii doesn't process as well as the PS3, we can't call its processor a processor.

No, it senses tilt. It's a totally different creature. Tilt function does not equal motion sensing.

To elaborate further, the name Sixaxis basically describes its limited 'motion sensing' as you like to call it. 6 directions of tilt function. NOT motion sensing.

A major feature of the controller is the ability to sense both rotational orientation and translational acceleration along all three dimensional axes, providing a full six degrees of freedom.[7] This became a matter of controversy, as the circumstances of the announcement, made less than eight months after Nintendo revealed motion-sensing capabilities in its new game console controller (see Wii Remote), with only one game shown at E3 to demonstrate the motion-sensing feature, led to speculation that the addition of motion-sensing was a late-stage decision by Sony to follow Nintendo's move.

Okay, sure, Wikipedia isn't exactly the best source around, but I find it to be a more credible source than some random guy on a forum. For shits and giggles, here are some other sources that contradict you:

With the controller no longer featuring rumble, most expected the new name to do away with the "Shock," and sure enough, the final name of "Six Axis" reflects the motion-sensing abilities of the device.

I realize that we can no longer call the cool new motion sensing wireless control the "Dual Shock." No rumble = no shock, much less "Dual Shock". The absence of rumble is a debate for another time.

At least back yourself up if you're going to make an asinine comment like that. It senses motion. Grow up and get over it.

It senses motion. Try Godfather for PS3... you grab a person and by moving the controller up and down, left or right, you throw them around. It's not just a tilt, you can keep it perfectly level and it senses changes in motion. When coded for right it's also very accurate. Having owned both Wii Sports and Motorstorm, while Motorstorm's controls are way more tight, it's actually tighter than Wii sports.

That's not possible, Firestreak. Everyone knows that it's impossible to have good graphics and controls while still maintaining good gameplay.

And it's impossible for a console to have good online without a premium charge because the internet realizes a PS3 is trying to connect to it and therefore intentionally fucks it up without the amazing service that costs 4 dollars a month to operate at no profit at all to Microsoft.

I'd say what's going on more is underestimating PS3's online. Take Resistance for example, a launch game.

I don't think anyone is underestimating it.

For free, you get 40 players at once online, with voice chat, with friends list... and here's an important feature Xbox live DOESN'T have... dedicated servers. Resistance in fact has better online than ANY Xbox live game. For free... The only edge that Xbox Live has is a shitload of more content(mainly arcade games for sale) and unified voice chat.

No one is talkin' about the PS3 vs. Xbox Live experiance. Stop gettin' roused up where there is no need for it.

Don't let me interrupt you though when you explain to me how PS3's free online is a worse deal than paying for online so you can have more voice chat and have your options decrease unless you continue to pay for new maps.

I never mentioned voice chat as a goodie to payin' for Xbox Live. Considering both the PS3 and Xbox 360 support it, what would be the point? AGAIN, no one is talkin' about PS3 Vs. Xbox 360.

How? They've yet to have an online game released. It's April! They don't even have a built in wired Ethernet plug which is the only way to actually play competitive online or the millions of people who... yanno, don't have wireless routers. To top it all off, they decided it'd be nice to fuck with us for the hell of it, by making standard usb to ethernet adapters not work so you have to buy their proprietary shit. (Microsoft is pretty bad here too... can I say... racing wheel. *cough*?)

FINALLY! You address the point, good deal. Maybe next time, don't take so long and litter me with useless bullshit?

Now onward... It's not about what they have released. It's what they have comming. As per saying ethernet plugs are the only way to play competitivly, blal blah blah, no... just... no. My Computer is wireless and my 360 are wireless. Works just like I had a cord in the back, which I did a few months back.

Sure there are a few brands that'll work, but when I tried linksys... it didn't. Do you think the masses are going to scour newegg looking for a usb plug that'll work with the Wii? The you think the average Wii customer is waiting, praying for an online multiplayer... or do you think someone who is very interested in online consoles has a 360 or PS3 already?

There is no sense in buying one of those crappy ethernet jacks. Might as well go out and spend the 50-60 dollars it takes to get a wireless router. If you can't afford to upgrade to a wireless router, you (not you, Fire, personally) probably do not own a Wii.

Now to the goods. I think a lot of Wii owners are looking for online multiplayer games. I for one am most certainly ready to get my paws on Batallion Wars 2 among the other games that have just been hinted at. So I'm sure there are others. Also considering the Wii has just slaughtered the PS3 in sales, I'd venture to say more people are lookin' into the Wii's online future than the PS3 because what, four million moreish own one? I for one know that if Batallion Wars 2 plays as good as it looks, Metroid's multiplayer gets confirmed, SSBB gets here, I'll probably sell my 360 because it will then be rendered useless to me for all time. Alas though, we're not waiting and praying in the masses cause you know, we actually have *some* (which implies more than one) good games to play right now as opposed to some... consoles... cough.

And the only thing PS3 can do Wii can't is render better graphics amiright!?!

Not sure what called for this but it feels like your inadequacy levels for the PS3 are gettin' high. Gogo Gadget pick me up?

It's good that's Nintendo's trying to branch away from the kiddy shit though, right?

I think it's good they are going in all directions. Hey, young children make up a mighty big portion of the gaming community and family gaming as well. You'd be a fool to not tickle their pink as well. However, if you want to screwball it, lets not forget to mention the other couple of kids games they have comming as well...

Just to name a few.

When you reply to me wanting to try and cut things down just keep in mind, you own the inferior good at this point, not me and not many other of us Wii owners will be offended by your snide remarks that really don't add up to what matters in the end.

Hehe, Even if there are online games and such for the Wii the physics models won't be as good as a PS3's or a 360's :P which I think makes a game pretty cool. That's not going to turn me off from the games online with a Wii though, but it'll be something I wish it had more of.

I don't remember a single time where I actually said, as I blew up a fortress in Lost Planet or a barrier in GoW, "Wow, this is why I love/play this game". That's just me though. I'm not a bells and whistles kind of guy. However though check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orQBxb8_KWU Things go boom on the wii as well :) Maybe not to the extent but in its own Jet Force Gemini kind of way.

For my only post in this topic, I'll simply answer the question in the title:

Because it isn't.

Two years from now we'll have a good idea who won and who lost. At the moment, it's all rampant fanboyism and speculation on all sides.

Lol, Raesvelg wins :P

My Computer is wireless and my 360 are wireless. Works just like I had a cord in the back, which I did a few months back.

I've played both ways and there is a very noticeable difference between wired and wireless speed. Not to be cheeky, but you've commented on the slow down yourself before, and please don't deny it and make me search through your posts to find it.

Assuming you prefer wireless.

Now to the goods. I think a lot of Wii owners are looking for online multiplayer games. I for one am most certainly ready to get my paws on Batallion Wars 2 among the other games that have just been hinted at. So I'm sure there are others.

People who favor online probably have either been avoiding the Wii or own it in combination with another system, in which case people with online games can sell to the same multiconsole gamers by making it a 360 version, plus all the millions of 360 owners that don't have a Wii.

Also considering the Wii has just slaughtered the PS3 in sales, I'd venture to say more people are lookin' into the Wii's online future than the PS3 because what, four million moreish own one?

A little over 3 million.

I for one know that if Batallion Wars 2 plays as good as it looks, Metroid's multiplayer gets confirmed, SSBB gets here, I'll probably sell my 360 because it will then be rendered useless to me for all time. Alas though, we're not waiting and praying in the masses cause you know, we actually have *some* (which implies more than one) good games to play right now as opposed to some... consoles... cough.

I have more good games now than energy to play. The PS3 Godfather is a lot of fun, Motorstorm is fun, Enchanted Arms is a decent RPG, Virtua Fighter is my second favorite franchise for fighting(behind Super Smash Bros), Oblivian port turned out better than the 360 version, and I have the most important(for me) sports game to look forward to next month, MLB 07.

As a side point, on my external hard drive, I've got the entire series of Star Trek next generation, Aqua teen hunger force, scrubs, south park, simpsons, always sunny in Philadelphia, house, firefly and outlaw star along with about 40 movies on an external harddrive that I can watch through my ps3... or throw whatever I want onto a 4 gig memory stick and watch on my new PSP.

That's not meaningful for "gaming", I suppose, but for me it's better than Dead Rising or Gears of War, the only 360 games I actually want.

Not sure what called for this but it feels like your inadequacy levels for the PS3 are gettin' high. Gogo Gadget pick me up?

Alright, Sigmund, whatever you say. Consider instead of having a problem with the PS3, I have a problem with people like you constantly annoying me with YOUR problem with it? It's not like I can't even talk about nice new features like rumble coming back without having someone attack the... oh shit, wait a second!

I think it's good they are going in all directions.

I think that wider demographics matter to Sony and Nintendo but not me and you. If they sell more Wiis to 8 year olds it doesn't mean more development to be spent on games for older gamers. Doesn't mean less really either, assuming there's not a limited supply of... oh yeah...

When you reply to me wanting to try and cut things down just keep in mind, you own the inferior good at this point, not me and not many other of us Wii owners will be offended by your snide remarks that really don't add up to what matters in the end.

I owned both goods, you didn't. I can judge inferiority for myself. Fortunately an opinion will never be a fact.

To reiterate. I don't care how many 4-13 year olds buy a Wii. It just means there will be less games for 4-13 year olds on the PS3 and more in the Wii. How many 15+ gamers own a Wii vs PS3? Well for some reason more PS3 copies of Godfather sold than of the Wii version.

This is true. Any more than one floor and the 50$ model looses half the signal. And if there's concrete between you and the router its basicly dead. The 200$ ones actualy offer good reliable wireless internet. But thats 190$ more than the cable that plugs into my current router. Making wireless optional is a much better idea than making wired optional (or in this case non-existant)

There's a reason that even wireless laptops have an ethernet plug.

I want a link to the thread, not just a quote. If it's not a link to the thread, it's worthless. I've mentioned it before, to friends, not on here to my knowledge, however, I've only recently, past month, rigged my PC and Xbox for compatibility with my wireless router to even compair it too. Have fun wasting a good hour or so.

I have my PC linked to my 360 so anything, media wise, I have on my PC, is availible on my 360... we're even.

Funny story, yeah, you brought up the PS3 like it was havin' penis size issues this time. I'm tired of talkin' about the PS3, it's inadaquecies, imo, and Blu-ray. Time will settle those debates, for me to continue with those discussions would be just a repeat fest. I simply made a statement about how people shouldn't under-estimate the Wii's future online functionality and you turned it into a semi PS3 vs. Wii thread.

I'd be willing to bet most people who like games like GTA, etc. do not own a Wii. I personally, will never be caught dead playing any game of that style on any system anymore, they have all turned out to be trash to me. I'd gladly settle for more Mario, Metroid, etc. than any game Rockstar could offer. That's just me though but I'd be willing to bet I'm not alone in the slightest.

lol.. Mario better than GTA? ah well.. opinion.. but still funny to me.

Since you've been so kind to try and analyze me, I'd like to offer a personal theory on you.

Based on this evidence...

To be honest. I bought a wireless adapter for my 360 and took it back. I get a much, much better connection from sticking with a wire. Maybe it's my network or something but that's my situation. Also noticed this on my CPU using anything associated with the net.

This is you explaining how the build in wireless on the PS3 is useless when I was explaining how it's a nice feature, that buying on the Xbox 360 would cost 100 dollars, effectively bringing the gap from PS3 and Xbox Premium from $200 to $100. (Or in the case of the Elite, which is a much more comparable sku, from $120 to $20.) Let's not even mention for that 20 bucks you're also getting a blu-ray player, since a high def movie player obviously isn't worth $20, unless MS sells it and it's going to be extinct, in which case it's worth $200.

This is you lying about the time frame that you bought your wireless router, either now, or from before. This shows that pretty much anything you've ever said is potentially a lie to make your case seem stronger.

My theory: You're desperate to be on the "winning team." You seek to go along with the masses, therefore the opinions of what games are good, what services are good, what piece of technology is acceptable is based solely on whatever your mind wants it to conform to. If the PS3 is the "unpopular" piece of machinery, you want to explain how it's a piece of shit, and how it has no good games, and how you'd never buy one but of course "your friend" has one and you've played every major release and you were very disappointed.

If Metal Gear Solid 4 gets ported, you'll be sure to get it and love it. If it doesn't, it sucks anyhow. If FF13 gets ported you'll get it and love it, if it doesn't, it sucks anyhow. All first party Sony games must suck, based on no reason. Killzone 2 based on all the awesome information about it, and its huge budget spanning many years of development sucks because you didn't like the PS2 game you probably never played in the first place.

Achievements are god. Trophies are worthless. Xbox live is worth 50 dollars a year to get matchmaking service, PS3 for free isn't worth the dedicated servers and PS Home.

Then throw a few bones at the things that can't even be argued against, like that Littlebigplanet looks cool and that Warhawk looks fun to not try and look biased as shit.

Oh yeah, don't forget to throw out how you'll prefer Xbox 360's 9 gig version of Unreal Tournament 3 with no keyboard/mouse support and no mod support to the PS3's 30 gig version. Keep a really straight face and don't look in my eyes as you explain how I'm the one insecure with my purchase, as I buy a Xbox 360 elite's and Wii's value combined in Blu-rays cause high def movies don't matter to real gamers like you.

You don't have to buy a wireless router to play Wii online. Just buy a wifi dongle, plug it into your computer and you've now got wireless for your Wii. It even works with your DS if you have one of those.

Still would be nice for Wii to come with ethernet port :P but that's just me and my anti-wirelessness.

I find wireless shit to be very unreliable. My PS3 is fine because it's right next to the router, but my PC dips into the "low" territory very often, causing me to lag up a storm on some occasions. But to be fair, I've been kicked off of PSN on my PS3 since I've moved into this apartment, and I never had this problem back home (the entire house is wired). I'd prefer an Ethernet port.

Sounds more like you're either in a crappy position or you just have a shitty router. I've never had any problems with the wireless part of my router, the router itself can crap out which would happen if it was wireless or not; so it's more of a personal problem than a problem with wireless itself.
