Why is the PS3 a fail?

People usually consider others with a different opinion than they have stupid, if nothing else as a reason to explain their opinion. "He thinks the Red Sox's new green uniform looks cool, therefore... he must be stupid." I usually try to get into the head of someone with different opinions of me... and usually find emotion at the heart of their argument rather than pure logic.

Tapping into collective emotions is an important part of selling an idea, be it a game console or a political philosophy. People can get pretty hostile when you try to challenge that.
He's not making any kind of point though and using nothing to back it up. All he's said is "if six-axis is gimmick then wiimote is gimmick," without ever actually substantiating. He's yet to actually contribute something to the thread besides an inaccurate comparison and no defense for it. His only responses have been "one-sided logic," when there wasn't any. If his opinion held any value even to him, he would actually try to support it.

I can respect people's opinions when there is some kind of basis to them. You like PS3 more because of it's graphics and power, fine, I can understand that; but at least you actually have something to back up your opinion. You're not spouting off random nonsense.

By the way, explain to me how holding your Wii mote vertically and steering it like a wheel is any more immersing and less cumbersome than holding a six-axis up and steering it like a wheel? I suppose the N64 graphics just pull you in more and make you feel REAL as opposed to lifelike effects.

just poking ya, but graphics may not be the best thing to argue about for a couple of reasons, lol. Especially since youre kind of giving/getting the wrong info

according to that definition, a lot of things are gimmicks. Many including the PS3, XB360, ipod, psp, ds, phones, cars, televisions... Pretty much anything these days

The thing is we are taking about the Wiimote vs Sixaxis

Mind pointing out where I said that Wiimote driving > six-axis driving? I certainly don't remember that, especially because driving would be the one place that I'd give six-axis equal footing in terms of motion sensing.

The cumbersome and un-immersive part was in reference to the baseball bat(I answered them in the order you posted them, not all dealing with driving), it'd in no way feel natural.

And you enter the fray to defend the guy claiming the Wii's backwards compatibility as superior to PS3s. Now I can honestly say, if I was trying to defend the wii and attack the PS3, that would not be my tactic, because it's mathematically wrong.

If I were to prefer the Wii, I'd have to prefer motion controls to regular as a standard requirement for every game. I'd cite that Wii games based on their unique nature won't get ports elsewhere. I'd point out the big developer support they're going to be getting in a year or so as reaction to initial sales. I'd throw out that they're obviously going to get one of the 6 FF13 games and I'd say over and over again, "Super Smash Bros Melee."

The Wii has many compelling points, you don't need to challenge the PS3 where it's superior.

But it can be split "If Wiimote is a gimmick because motion sensing is to garner attention, so is the ability to play Blu-Ray movies at less cost than a Blu-Ray Player." or "If the ability to play Blu-Ray movies is a gimmick, then so are game achievements."

The fact is, Sixaxis tilt is, flatout, a gimmick. They tacked it on specficially to shout "WE CAN TOO!!!!!!!!1" as opposed to Nintendo designing with "We will" in mind.

Here you go my friend:

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/gimmick

I think definition #1 best suits the Wiimote
The first definition has a positive connotation, in which only the Wiimote's motion sensing would apply. That's more akin to "hook" or something special/unique about the console than anything else.

The better definition is #5, "to equip or embellish with unnecessary features, esp. in order to increase salability, acceptance, etc." That is also more relevant to what we are talking about, that the six-axis is a gimmick because it's a tacked-on addition to let sony say "hey, we have motion sensing too!" In that sense, the wiimote is not a gimmick, because it's the primary feature of the console.

Six-axis is an ancillary feature, like the wiimote's speaker, microphone and rumble. The motion controls, though are a primary feature like blu-ray and cell processor.

It's not bad actually, at least for my hand. Thumb on the bottom between the sticks, hands on the top between the shoulder buttons, it's a good grip. Having owned Wii sports, I can see the wii-mote doesn't really mimic the feel of its real life counterparts. The biggest offenders are bowling, golf and boxing, but they did the best possible without requiring a different controller for every sport. On that vein, the PS3 does the best possible while retaining excellent function as a normal controller.

As far as baseball goes, I'm mostly worried about chucking my controller through my high def TV.

This is true, no matter how much it is argue'd. The definition of 'gimmick' in this case would better be:

"They tacked it on," as in, trying to be as or more appealing than the Wii's control system since it gained so much hype. They tried to do a lot to ensure people would buy the PS3, and theyre getting some good sales. Every little bit helps

Gimmick is such a subjective term. As far as people on this message board, people seem to use the term gimmick to mean, "That thing I don't like ."

So rather than try to debate what "is" or "isn't" a gimmick, let's just throw down a few hard to debate opinions.

1. Both the six-axis and the wii-mote can "sense motion."
2. The Wii-mote has a wider ranger of motion that it can sense, and knows where it is in relationship to the TV.
3. The wii-mote is more ergonomically designed for motion control.
4. The six-axis has a better design for using none motion controls.
5. Outside of the controller, from a hardware standpoint, the PS3 is vastly superior.

I didn't have any problems with bowling myself. With golf and baseball, I would LOVE a larger grip, but I play just fine with positioning my left hand over an invisible(and not there) extension to the wiimote. I have about a 50% pangya rate in super swing golf, the controls in an actual game are pretty smooth even without that elongated grip. Boxing is the only game that I think the controls are bad, it's still fun but I throw about 3x as many punches as my Mii. I'm going to get the first real boxing game though, it'll be insanely fun once the controls are tightened up.

I've never had a problem with chucking a controller, with the new wrist straps that shouldn't be much of a problem anymore, either.

I mean I'm worried about chucking a PS3 controller when playing MLB. There is no wrist strap. I expect plenty of Xbox 360 owners at any rate pretending to be PS3 owners and crying how they broke their plasma TVs either way.

blah blah blah Both systems have their good points both have their bad blah blah blah both have fun games coming for them and every system has fun exclusives for them blah blah blah moving on?

blah blah blah, don't post if you've got nothing to say blah blah blah.

well all of you are saying the same shit over and over again :\ you aren't convincing either side, why doesn't both or at least one side just give up bothering with it. It's become pointless. No.. it's always been pointless.

Give up? An argument? And this is Elemmire talking?

*cue twilight zone music*

It's an argument. Thus, it will continue until both sides become bored of it at the same time. Which isn't a very high chance.
